Substance is what matters in the preparations for a US-sponsored peace conference

JERUSALEM (AFP) - The Palestinian Authority said on Monday that substance is what matters in the preparations for a US-sponsored peace conference, after Israel said the two sides would produce a joint declaration instead of an agreement of principles. "The most important thing is not what we call things, it's the substance," Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erakat told AFP when asked to comment on the Israeli statements issued the previous day. "The substance of what is required to achieve a two-state solution, to implement the road map and the Arab initiative," Erakat said, referring to blueprints adopted by the Arab League and the Quartet of major diplomatic players in 2002 and 2003 respectively. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is due to arrive in the region on Tuesday to hold more talks with the aim of preparing for the conference.

Whether she meets them together, apart, in Jerusalem or in Ramallah, officials say Rice wants to see a commitment they can deliver enough at the conference to draw key players such as Saudi Arabia which is not interested in coming unless substantive issues are tackled. But even before she left Washington, Olmert sought to lower expectations, saying on Sunday he wanted a joint declaration rather than a binding deal to emerge at the conference. Abbas wants a firmer "framework agreement" on the core issues of borders, Jerusalem, security and refugees and Arab diplomats said anything less would make it hard for countries such as Saudi Arabia to attend the conference.

Possibility of a truce with Hamas

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Israel's deputy defence minister said on Monday the government should study the possibility of a truce with the Hamas movement ruling the Gaza Strip, provided rocket fire from the territory stops. "All propositions for a ceasefire must be examined, but it cannot be taken under consideration as long as Hamas does not stop rocket fire against Israel," Matan Vilnai told public radio. "A test period of a week to two weeks" is needed, he said. The comments came a day after Hamas indirectly suggested that the Islamist movement and Israel could resume a truce in the Gaza Strip.

It´s not so strange..

Large areas of Israel had excessive ozone levels in 2006, the Ministry for Environmental Protection said Sunday. The area most heavily affected was Gush Etzion in the West Bank, south of Jerusalem. The ministry found the bloc was contaminated with excessive ozone levels for 260 days in 2006. Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Be'er Sheva, Modi'in and Carmiel also showed excessive levels from 45 days to 140 days. Low-level ozone (or tropospheric ozone) is not emitted directly by engines or factories. It is formed when sunlight causes hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides in the air to react, and then usually drifts with the wind. In Israel, low-level ozone finds its way to the interior of the country. This is why areas like Beit Shemesh and Gush Etzion were found to have higher levels of ozone than more industrialized areas in the coastal plain. Officials from the Ministry for Environmental Protection say the ministry is trying to cut emissions of materials that produce low-level ozone. These steps include limiting the gas fumes at service stations, and reducing pollutants in commercial cooking gas.

In fact..It´s quite logical that this "jihad-fantasy-"religion" and manipulations against agreements and peace, firing rockets and military junk all over, do not only cost human lives but as well destroys the environment, nature and waters! It destroys artifacts and ancient sites both in Israel as all the way to Egypt! It destroys the waters, the air and the pyramids!

Two months before the conference is expected to convene in the Washington area

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert sought on Sunday to lower expectations for a U.S.-led conference on Palestinian statehood, saying he wanted a joint declaration out of the gathering rather than a binding deal. "We are talking between us about a joint declaration that we hope we can formulate," Olmert told members of his government, referring to his discussions with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. "There is a difference between an 'agreement on principles' and a declaration which represents positions," Olmert was quoted as saying by an official.

With U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice scheduled to return in the region this week, Olmert's comments highlighted the differences that remain two months before the conference is expected to convene in the Washington area. Abbas, is seeking a more explicit "framework agreement." Such an accord, Abbas says, should have a timeline for implementation on the core issues of borders, Jerusalem and the fate of Palestinian refugees. Saeb Erekat, an aide to Abbas, said the label attached to a document agreed by both sides was not the paramount issue. "I don't care what you call it. I care about the substance. The most important thing is that we specify in a substantive way how to resolve all the fundamental issues," Erekat said in reference to Olmert's remarks.

After U.S. President George W. Bush first proposed convening the conference, Olmert's aides had talked of hammering out a broadbrush agreement on principles. Under Olmert's new approach, that could be scaled back even further to a joint statement, Israeli officials said. The change in Israel's language could make it more difficult for Washington to attract key Arab states to the conference. Saudi Arabia has conditioned its participation on making progress in "final-status" talks over a Palestinian state.

Talks are scheduled to get under way this week between Israeli and Palestinian negotiating teams, and Rice was expected to press both sides to make tangible progress. In the run-up to the gathering, Olmert has come under pressure from within his own centrist Kadima party and from other coalition partners to lower expectations for the meeting. It was unclear from Olmert's latest comments what he would be willing to include in a joint declaration and how it would be substantively different from an agreement on principles. Israeli officials said such a statement could include agreed "points" on some final-status issues, much like an agreement on principles.

"We must take advantage of the fact that we really have a government with which we can arrive at a dialogue. The aim is not to solely achieve a documented agreement, but rather to advance mutual interests. We must remember that there exists a rift between the desires of the Palestinian government and the actual implementation of them," said the minister. We must remember that there exists a rift between the desires of the Palestinian government and the actual implementation of them," said the minister. "We left Gaza with the aim of allowing the Palestinians to begin conducting themselves in a positive manner - something that did not occur because terror took over. Secondly, we left so that we would no longer have to be responsible for not only the security issues, but also for humanitarian and financial issues, so that we could arrive at a point where we could announce the end of the occupation - all of which did not happen because we still find ourselves at a point where we are perceived as responsible for what is going on there."

Abdol Hossein Sardari was an Iranian politician and diplomat who saved many Jews from Nazi Germany

TEHRAN, Iran - It is Iran's version of "Schindler's List," a miniseries that tells the tale of an Iranian diplomat in Paris who helps Jews escape the Holocaust — and viewers across the country are riveted. The Holocaust is rarely mentioned in state media in Iran, school textbooks don't discuss it and Iranians have little information about it.

Yet the series titled "Zero Degree Turn" is clearly sympathetic to the Jews' plight during World War II. It shows men, women and children with yellow stars on their clothes being taken forcibly out of their homes and loaded into trucks by Nazi soldiers. "Where are they taking them?" the horrified hero, a young Iranian diplomat who works at the Iranian Embassy in Paris, asks someone in a crowd of onlookers. "The Fascists are taking the Jews to the concentration camps," the man says. The hero, named Habib Parsa, then begins giving Iranian passports to Jews to allow them to flee occupied France to then-Palestine. Though the Habib character is fictional, it is based on a true story of diplomats in the Iranian Embassy in Paris in the 1940s who gave out about 500 Iranian passports for Jews to use to escape.

State media have said the series, which began in April, is popular. "Once, I wept when I learned through the film what a dreadful destiny the small nation had during the world war in the heart of so-called civilized Europe," said Mahboubeh Rahamati, a Tehran bank teller. Kazem Gharibi said he watches the series every Monday on a TV in his grocery store. "Through this film, I understood that Jews had a hard time in the war — helpless and desperate, as we were when Iraq imposed war on us," he said, referring to the eight-year Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. The series began with a love story between Habib, the embassy employee, and a French Jew, Sara Stroke, in the early 1940s. Viewers say the love story pulls them in as much as the history.

After Paris is occupied by the Nazis, Habib decides to forge Iranian passports for many French Jews to save them from the Holocaust — starting with Sara and her family. The German government accepts his embassy's claim that the passport holders are from an Iranian tribe and lets them leave France. Habib is imprisoned by the Nazis for espionage after his forgeries are discovered. He then is released and returns to Tehran, where he is jailed again for forging passports. Eight episodes remain in the series, and viewers drawn by the love story are on edge as they await the finish. "I have watched the series from the beginning," said Sedigheh Karandish, a housewife and mother of two. "It's pulling me in to see what these two people do at the end. Hopefully, it will be a happy ending."

Abdol Hossein Sardari, (c. 1895 - 1981) was an Iranian politician and diplomat who saved many Jews from Nazi Germany. He is known as "Schindler of Iran". Sardari was in charge of Iranian consular office in Paris in 1941. There was a colony of Iranian Jews in Paris when Hitler occupied the city. He convinced Nazi German politicians that Iranian Jews were Iranians since the time of Cyrus the Great and therefore fell under the protection of Iranian laws like any other Iranian. Accordingly Persian Jews were not attacked by Nazi regime. Sadari also issued numerous Iranian passports for non-Iranian Jews and saved them from prosecutions. Sardari had no doubt that the Shah and the Iranian government would confirm his decision after the war. The Shah and the Iranian government didn't object his actions.

The papers don´t do you! You do papers!

"Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan have made it clear that they see no point in attending the conference because of its unclear agenda," one PA official said." The Palestinians would like to see as many Arab countries at the conference as possible. We are going there to discuss fundamental issues that are of interest not only to the Palestinians, but the majority of Arabs and Muslims."

Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said after meeting with Abbas that his country would probably skip the conference called by US President George W. Bush if it doesn't tackle substantive issues such as the status of Jerusalem and Palestinian refugees. "The kingdom sees no benefit in any peace meeting or conference if it is not comprehensive and if it doesn't tackle major issues," Faisal said. "If the conference doesn't provide these things, then the kingdom's participation is doubtful." He said the Bush administration has failed to provide either an agenda for the meeting, a list of participants, or a timeline for both sides to meet their commitments, raising fears that "we will enter into never-ending negotiations, something Arab countries don't want." Jordan's King Abdullah said after meeting with Abbas that "issues pertaining to final status must top the agenda of the conference - foremost among them is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state."
Over the weekend, Abbas phoned a number of Arab leaders, only to hear from them that they too had reservations about the conference. They included: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Tunisian President Zine al-Abidin, the emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifeh al-Thani, and the emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who is expected in the region Tuesday to gauge progress on preparations for the conference, for a round of talks in Israel and the PA to prepare for the Middle East peace summit scheduled for the second half of November. Rice, who will chair the event, seeks to get a feeling for the extent of Israeli and Palestinian flexibility in formulating the joint declaration before continuing her efforts to enlist the cooperation of senior Saudi and United Arab Emirates representatives in the summit. Washington now it expects to receive first-hand reports of Olmert-Abbas talks.

Maybe there is need for 2 conferences with some 2 weeks between or something..while you already have things set up and are going..There is negotiations taking place and both the Quartet and Saudi peace plan and a whole lot going on, so don´t try to make things happen at the same time. Be flexible, take conditions in considerations and adjust yourselves after those, communicate, don´t set expectations to high on just one meeting. There are several meetings coming. This is a process that takes time. Agendas coming, frameworks, cooperation, agreements, security, documents and papers coming. You don´t need signed papers on everything there is at the same time to work forward to more agreements. The papers don´t do you! You do papers!

More than 5.5 million German soldiers died in World War II

.By early 1945, Soviet forces surrounded Berlin, American and British forces had taken most of western Germany and Soviet troops moving westward met Allied troops moving eastward at Torgau at the Elbe on April 26, 1945 (Cohen). On 4 May–8 May 1945, the remaining German armed forces throughout Europe surrendered unconditionally (German Instrument of Surrender, 1945). This was the end of Nazi Germany. With the creation of the Allied Control Council on 5 July 1945, the four Allied powers "assume[d] supreme authority with respect to Germany" (Declaration Regarding the Defeat of Germany, US Department of State, Treaties and Other International Acts Series, No. 1520).

Misch, 88, is the only person still alive today to have seen the Nazi leader and his wife Eva Braun dead in their bunker deep under the shattered city of Berlin. On April 30, 1945, with Soviet forces just 300m from the bunker and his armies beaten, Hitler bade farewell to his staff and went into his private rooms. There the man who had plunged the world into conflict and sent millions of Jews to their deaths in the Holocaust poisoned a willing Braun and shot himself in the head. "People confuse the Führer's bunker with the upper bunker or the bunker at the Reich Chancellery. "In fact the bunker we were in was so small. We were not a whole company, there were just five people. Only five of us could have witnessed the death, no more." The site stands today a few hundred metres from the shopping and office complex which now fills Potsdamer Platz in central Berlin. There is no plaque to mark the location.

Hitler's Germany caused Europe much destruction, over 50 million people were killed.

Eichmann fled to Buenos Aires..Buenos Aires..

As Eichman appeared at his trial to have an ordinary and common personality, displaying neither guilt nor hatred. She suggested that this most strikingly discredits the idea that the Nazi criminals were manifestly psychopathic and different from ordinary people.

No..it´s the same...It´s a shame..It´s old and antiquated

Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani - Ahmadinejad and the Revolutionary Guard. There is no achievements by trying to regulating the balance between those! Those are like the same..There is no signs of results.. no signs of changes. It´s + - 0
Iran as a whole seems to push a rock up a hill only for it to go tumbling down to the bottom again. With even the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei "riding the waves of the enemies"!

Yes..It´s really + - 0!

City of Chorasmia, Zoroastrianism, Xorazm, Khorezm, Quran. Khorezm-later called Chiwa/Khiva.

Yes why don´t we turn everything upside down as well!

"The Qur'an was revealed to the inhabitants of seventh-century Arabia."

Khorezm...It was in the middle of the 6th c. that Khorezm was conquered by the Akhemenides. The country was involved into intensive cultural exchanges. Between 5-4th c.

The Khorezm afrigid culture of the early Middle Age (5-8th cc.) formed on the local basis under the influence of half-nomad tribes differs much from that antique. Khorezm are unquestionably Zoroastrian. Following the recommendation of the Avesta.

By the end of the afrigid period especially after the arabic invasion in the 8th c. the Khorezm art and culture started aqquiring the image common of all the countries within the caliphate, still preserving some traditional features.

It was exactly the rivalry between the Khorezmshakh and his brother Khurrazad, the latter having the support of the king of Khamdzher, which forced the former to ask for Arab’s assistance.

Kutejba defeated Khurrazad, destroyed the writings of Khorezm and expelled its scholars.

An Arab deputy was installed in the country and until 995 Ad, when the last representative of the Afrigid dynasty was killed, the power over the country was shared between Kjat – the capital of the Khorezmshakhs, and Urgench – the seat of the Arab emirs.
It was the Akhemenides-The Magics that came all the way to see baby Jesus!

If you are telling the truth. If you do not do that
- and you will not do it
- then guard yourselves against the Fire!

Well...We do not blame the Persians for abandon Zoroastrianism! They was conquered by the Arabs after they conquered Khorezm.

Yes...There are texts and stories about "the fire people" under the Roman time.

Whatever..The difference with free speech and promoting stupidity in others interests!

DUBAI (Reuters) - An Al Qaeda-led group said on Friday it was responsible for the killing of Iraqi tribal leader Abdul Sattar Abu Risha, according to an Internet posting on Friday.

It´s the same fantasy-made up-racist-"religion", pointing fingers like Krishna, as Iran have promoted and promotes, that is used all over the Middle East as a tool to use people for own political gains! al-Qaida-Iran-Syria-psychopath in Qatar-Hamas-Jordan and their "honor", while children in Iraq being killed and that have pulverized one of earths most important cultural heritage site-UNESCO- are the ...Same shit!

We have had enough of this "Islamic State in a Islamic state"! It´s just another "proxy group" killing people and working to destabilize. And it sure ain´t in the interests of the Iraqi´s, Sunni´s and Shiite´s! Yes we know where they come from..Don´t we? Students being indoctrinate and used in others interests! Yes it´s the same in Kuwait!

Yes..And all those arms and weapons comes falling down from the sky..And it´s all about rewritten-fantasy-made up "religion"..

For your information: It was the Persians that promoted some rewritten religion under the Roman time, that made the crusaders come back to the Middle East and burned people as heretic and to stay in power in the Middle East! In exactly the same interests Iran made up the fantasy-jihad and promoted it, in the same way they promoted rewritten religion under the Roman time! Yes you can thank the old Persians for the crusaders use of religion to take power and burning people with a twisted view of the world and religion! Just as twisted as you are now, with their rewritten "jihad-religion", to be used in the exactly same way!

YOU are the "crusaders" in the Middle East this time, with a twisted view of the world and religion! And just changed the word: heretic to infidels, being used in others interests to get gains of your stupidity, Muslims killing Muslims! There have been rewritten religions for centuries in Persia and Iran, just was have suited for the moment to use for stay in power! Just as the crusaders which got it from the Persians! Quran - Xorazm! Khorezm! City of Chorasmia !

Yes..It´s really "holy" with people and children being killed! Cholera and nuclear, how glorious! And those that use it to put themselves above the judgment of God!

"Muslims must remember their brothers and sisters who are in the Jihad and to help them with property, weapons, word, with the support of families ."

Yes so the Grand Ayatollah in Iran can sit and accuse others for their own actions while you are out there killing Muslims, in their made up fantasy-religion, the same way they have practise under the roman times and for centuries!

Idiots!

Waters..

BAGHDAD - The number of suspected cholera cases in northern Iraq continues to rise, with 16,000 people now showing symptoms, the World Health Organization said Friday.

As of Sept. 10, 6,000 have been reported with symptoms in the province of Sulaimaniyah, another 7,000 in Tamim province, and 3,000 in Irbil province, the WHO said in a statement. To date 10 people have died and 844 cases of the disease have been confirmed, the WHO said. Earlier in the week, regional authorities reported 11,000 people with symptoms, 700 confirmed cases and 10 deaths. Cholera is a gastrointestinal disease that is typically spread by drinking contaminated water. It broke out in mid-August and has so far been limited to northern Iraq. The WHO reported earlier this week that all public water supply systems in the affected districts have been chlorinated by provincial authorities in an attempt to stop the disease from spreading further.

Team of negotiators

JERUSALEM, Sept. 10 — Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of Israel and the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, met Monday and agreed to set up a team of negotiators to flesh out their understandings of what a permanent, two-state solution would look like and require. Officials of both sides said the two men had also agreed to set up eight joint ministerial committees to work on mutual issues like communications, security and economic cooperation. The two men spent an hour together alone after a larger, two-hour luncheon session at which Mr. Fayyad spoke about what he hoped for from the Israeli government and ministers. Mr. Fayyad is eager for economic and security cooperation, to show Palestinians that moderation can bring more freedom of movement, more investment, more jobs and more safety. Saeb Erekat, an Abbas aide and Palestinian negotiator, said that the selection of the negotiating team was significant. Israel said its side would consist of two Olmert aides and a representative each from the Foreign and Defense Ministries.

"We have moved forward economically and the spiritual preparedness and happiness of our nation has improved." "A nation like ours, without an atomic bomb and not as wealthy as these other powerful governments, has foiled a whole series of their conspiracies and forced them to give up and withdraw," he added.

Ahaa...You say that..:
"A nation like ours have forced them to give up and withdraw."

So Iran do take the "credit" for unrest, killings, working against stability in Iraq and crimes done there to "force them give up and withdraw."..Shouldn´t you share that "credit" with the Sunni psychopath in Qatar, Syria and people in Damascus and Jordan? The Iraqi´s must be very grateful for the help to "force them to give up and withdraw"..Yes...such a gratitude tho show for killed police, troops, civilians, children, politicians, teachers, scholars etc..etc..

A nation like yours that invented the fantasy-jihad-"war"-killing everything that moves, with pointing fingers like Krishna we can see from Palestinians to al-Qaida, based on rewritten religion, destruction and death..Taking the rights to speak for God, judge who is not to be or to live, in God´s name to justify killing..Doing your part to spread racism in your "racism-jihad-religion", against the "infidels"! As if you are the ones to judge which are faithful enough and not! As if you have been given the permission to speak for God and to decide which are on the "right or wrong side"! You have just taken yourselves rights, to put yourselves above the judgement of God! Haven´t you? And the "enemies" was never "invited" to be fought..And to be projected on everything yourselves and others stands for..
