UN Office 9/1/2013, Aswat al-Iraq: According to casualty figures released today by UNAMI, a total of 804 Iraqis were killed and another 2,030 were wounded in acts of terrorism and violence in August. The number of civilians killed was 716 (including 106 civilian police), while the number of civilians injured was 1,936 (including 195 civilian police). A further 88 members of the Iraqi Security Forces were killed and 94 were injured.

 “Despite the decrease in casualty figures in August, compared to July, the impact of violence on civilians remains disturbingly high, with almost 5,000 civilians killed and 12,000 injured since the beginning of 2013,” the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Ms. Jacqueline Badcock, warned. Baghdad was the worst-affected governorate in August with 1,272 civilian casualties (317 killed and 955 injured), followed by Salahal-din, Nineva, Diala, and Anbar (triple digit figures). Kirkuk, Babel, Wassit and Basra also reported casualties (double-digit figures).

Iranians in Camp Liberty go on hunger Strike call for deployment of Blue Helmets

NCRI - Residents of Camp Liberty in Iraq have announced a hunger strike from noon of Sunday, September 1, following the fifth massacre perpetuated against members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Camp Ashraf, in yet another unprecedented crime against humanity.

The hunger strikers declared: As the responsibility to protect the residents of Ashraf and Liberty is incumbent upon the United States Government and the United Nations;

Considering that 10 hours after the murderous attack of Iraqi forces under orders of Al-Maliki, the US Government and United Nations have not acted in any way to stop the killings in Ashraf or save the lives of the kidnapped and injured residents;

Considering that neither the US nor the UN have taken any effective measure to protect the residents of Ashraf and Liberty in recent months despite numerous repeated pleas by the residents and their representatives;

In recognition of the grave crimes against humanity of which the firing of coup de grace shots at the injured and their execution, and massacre of residents with hands tied behind their backs are instances of;

Considering that the repetition of such a massacre is possible at any moment;

The residents will continue their hunger strike until the full cessation of killings in Ashraf and the release of all hostages, and until the resolution of the issue of security for the residents of Ashraf and Liberty. The protection of the residents of Ashraf and Liberty is only possible after full repudiation of security responsibility from Iraqi forces and the deployment of UN blue helmet forces in Ashraf and Liberty until their transfer to the United States or Europe.

The residents call for the urgent intervention of the United Nations and the transfer of security responsibility from murderous Iraqi forces to UN blue helmet forces and emphasized that the relinquishing of security responsibility to Iraqi forces which has until now led to five massacres in Ashraf and Liberty is considered as collusion in crimes against humanity and must be stopped.

Maryam Rajavi urged the United Nations and US government to take urgent action for protection of the residents by either transferring them all to the United States or settling the UN Blue Helmets in Camps Ashraf and Liberty in order to protect the residents.

Kışanak: "The World Peace Day, September 1, is a day of mass demos voicing the public demand for peace in Turkey, Rojava and Middle East."

ANF - ISTANBUL 30.08.2013,  Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Gültan Kışanak spoke to ANF about the democratic resolution process and the "democracy package" the government is expected to announce in the coming days. Kışanak said the process is currently witnessing tension because of the government's insistence on not doing its part in the achievement of a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish question.

Kışanak said the second phase of the resolution process would witness “Turkey's democratization and negotiations between the democracy powers in the country and the government's/authoritarian state's mindset”. BDP co-chair indicated that the resolution process is currently in its second page, saying that this truth was already known by the Turkish government and public opinion as well.

She said the government and the parliament were supposed to take steps for the achievement of democratization, noting that the government's failure to take any steps so far has created troubles for the process.

Kışanak criticized the government for preparing the democracy package without opening it up for discussion and delaying its announcement for the last two months.

She said the package must satisfy the demands of all circles demanding democracy in the country. She noted that the government did not take BDP's opinion during the preparation of the democracy package. "Nor did it give an answer to the 25-points democratization package our party conveyed two months ago. We do not know whether they accept our proposals or not. This is not a good way to deal with a problem."

Turkish public opinion is also excluding the BDP from the process. "One other problem is the fact that we do not know what the package includes”, Kışanak said and underlined that BDP's democratization package included solutions to the problems of not only Kurds but of everyone in the country, such as the removal of the election threshold and obstacles to democratic politics, constitutional assurance for the right to democratic opposition, to freedom of thought and expression and abolishment of the anti-terror law.

“This process is aimed at Turkey's democratization which will also enable a solution to the Kurdish issue. It is not going on between the BDP and the government alone. This is why everyone should support it”, she added.

BDP co-chair remarked that the process is currently witnessing not a deadlock but tension caused by government's failure to take steps for democratization and to designate a date for the steps needed to be taken. "The Kurdish side's insistence on some dates are because we have elections ahead of us and we do not have much time for we cannot delay the solution of the Kurdish question until after elections."

"The government has done nothing since negotiation began eight months ago", she said and criticized the government for not displaying the determination it has promised since the very beginning of the process. Kışanak said the Turkish state's status quoist and monist mindset also created problems for the course of the process.

BDP co-chair pointed out that their party would continue to mobilize and to struggle for peace in the region and all around the world. She said the World Peace Day, September 1, would be a day of mass demos voicing the public demand for peace in Turkey, Rojava and Middle East. She called on everyone siding with peace and freedom to take to the streets.

Also commenting on discussions on the necessity of a military action against Syria, Kışanak said any international intervention in Syria would deepen the problems in the country and scale up the war environment the country is suffering from for the last two years. She said none of the sides planning to attack Syria will produce a political solution to the problem in the country. She underlined that BDP sided with peace and a political solution for Syria.

Kışanak warned that Turkey's active participation in any military action against Syria would also lead to serious conflicts inside and around Turkey. She added that Turkey must never take such a risk, also considering AKP government's political and diplomatic failure to realize its policies against Syria.

Tens of thousands joined the funeral ceremony of western Kurdistan's People's Defense Units (YPG) fighter Malik Xdelef and six members of the People's Assembly killed in recent clashes in Rojava. PM Erdogan: Limited action against Syria not enough

31.08.2013, Speaking to reporters during the Victory Day reception at the presidential palace in the capital Ankara on Friday, Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that a limited military action against Syria would not satisfy Turkey. Erdogan pointed out that the intervention must be something similar to the one in Kosovo, citing the NATO operation against Yugoslavia during the Kosovo war in 1999 as an example.

The Prime Minister remarked that any kind of intervention in Syria should be aimed at bringing an end to the rule of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. "It can't be a 24 hours hit-and-run. What matters is stopping the bloodshed in Syria and pushing the regime to the point of collapsing ", he added.

Referring to the most recent statements of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Erdogan said the intervention in Syria could take place before the G-20 summit in the Russian capital Moscow next week.

Margaret Owen sent letter to Obama

25.08.2013, Peace in Kurdistan patron Margaret Owen OBE has written an open letter to US President Barack Obama, urging him to make an urgent investigation into the brutal massacre and kidnapping of hundreds of Kurdish men, women and children at the hands of US- and Turkey-backed Al-Qaeda affiliates in Syria.

In the letter she reminds President Obama that Western Kurdistan had, until recent provocations, remained peaceful under the leadership of the PYD and had become a safe haven for many Syrian’s fleeing violence in the worn-torn country.

Turkish anxieties over the new project of democratic autonomy in Western Kurdistan should not justify the international community’s indifference to the massacre of innocent Kurdish civilians.

The letter has also been supported by several prominent politicians, academics and human rights defenders. In the letter Owen writes that "As lawyers and as women human rights defenders working internationally to protect all people from violations of international law, war crimes, and ethnic cleansing in civil war and sectarian violence, we implore you to use all available means, and harness all the resources of the UN and the international community to stop the massacres of innocent Kurdish men, women, and children in Syria".

Western Kurdistan, under the democratic leadership of the PYD, continues the letter, "has been a haven for those fleeing the violence of militias, such as Al Nusra, linked to Al Qaida in other parts of war torn Syria. The Kurds of Syria have been the one voice promoting the equal rights of all religious and ethnic minorities in a democratic and just new post-Assad Syria".

It is also essential that the true role of Turkey in arming those al Qaida militias, such as Al Nusra is investigated, underlined Owen.

The letter is supported by, among others, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, Baroness Greengross, Jean Lambert MEP, Jill Evans MEP, Caroline Lucas MP, Kariane Westrheim, University of Bergen, Chair of EUTCC, Maggie Bowden, General Secretary, Liberation.

While HPG - Kurdish defence forces are withdrawing and there are works in all aspects to reach end of war fare, solutions and peace agreements 24/7, Turkey has no reasons or justifications WHAT SO EVER to attack or support attacks against Kurds who fights armed and supported militants and al-Qaida and Kurdish villages in Syria!

These are crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, violations against International laws, laws of war, humanitarian laws and crimes against the Syrians and against Iraqis that are attacked and killed in masses as well!

THIS IS REAL TERRORISM! And every #¤#¤¤ crimes one can mention, while Danish court accuse Kurdish media for inciting terrorism and facebook bans Kurds and have "peace conference"! And #%¤¤#% genocidal PSYCHOPATHS are working to get Obama to stand responsible for everything after Turkey and Israel have bombed the whole #¤#¤¤ region!
