UN Calls on Israel and Egypt to ease Gaza blockade. UNHRC passes five resolutions on Israel

In a final meeting for its 25th session, held on Friday, the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) passed five resolutions on Israel; four on the conflict with Palestinians and one on the Golan Heights.

The resolutions covered self-determination for the Palestinians, human rights violations in the occupied territories, settlements and the report of the UN fact-finding mission about the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Before voting on the resolution, Palestinian ambassador to the UN Ibrahim Khreeshi delivered a speech in which he thanked the UNHRC member states for their cooperation regarding Palestinian-Israeli issues. He said: "We look at the Palestinian-Israeli issue from three perspectives: continuous human rights violations carried out by the Israeli occupation, daily and systematic Israel aggressions and efforts to reach the two-state solution."

A peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israeli issue, according to Khreeshi, is the key to self-determination. He also mentioned the Israeli attack on Jenin last week, which left three Palestinians dead.

Khreeshi also referred to Israeli settlements as a type of violation of international law by Israel. He called for Israel to respect international law.

From the 47 members, 46 voted for the resolutions; the US voted against them. US representative Paula Shcriefer said: "They work against our collective efforts to advance a peaceful resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict."

The United States government is divided into three branches: the executive branch, the legislative branch and the judicial branch. Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives are all parts of the legislative branch. In US politics, the term "Congress" refers to the Senate and House of Representatives together. All of the elected officials in the legislative branch are members of one of these two chambers. Some of the many differences between the Senate and the House of Representatives are the number of members from each state, the term of office that each official serves, the eligibility requirements for election and the various rules, powers and duties of each chamber.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is a lobbying group that advocates pro-Israel policies to the Congress and Executive Branch of the United States.

Israel's virtual dictatorship over America. A 22-Year Veteran Congressman Exposes Israel's Lobby. Rep. Paul Findley Speak Out

Why is it that Israel is the only country in the region with the atomic bomb? To destabilize the entire region. That Israel is a rogue state is an irrefutable fact. Furthermore, it is a well known fact that Jewish-Israeli lobbyists in the U.S. are highly powerful. Even though the U.S. government strongly denies that it is being controlled by the Israeli lobbyists, the fact remains that these lobbyists run the foreign politics and other important domains.

It needs to be stressed that Israel is the greatest recipient of the U.S. financial aid, the purpose of which is to destabilize the region. Making the region unstable will make it much easier to control. That the foreign politics of the U.S. is extremely unjust should not come as a surprise, given the fact that it is controlled by the Jewish Israeli lobbyists, check Paul Findley and Edward Said for corroboration. Israel poses without doubt the greatest threat in the entire region.

Paul Findley, who spent 22 years as a Republican congressman from Illinois, found his political career destroyed after he had campaigned against the Jewish lobby -- although, ironically, his book on the subject, was nine weeks on The Washington Post bestseller list, suggesting that quite a number of Americans want to know why their congressmen are so pro-Israeli.

There have been others who have opposed America's Israel-first policy. In recent times, we've seen Sen. Ernst Hollings, Congressman James Moran, Gen. Anthony Zinni and even third-party presidential candidate Ralph Nader. What sets Rep. Findley apart from these other courageous and patriotic men is that he made more than quick, passing comments about Israel's virtual dictatorship over America's Congress.

While Findley unquestionably promoted America's best interests--and possibly Israel's interests too if the two happened to coincide--he did not promote Israel's interests over America's. Consequently, he became known as Israel's "number one enemy." And the Israel-first lobby sent money from every state in the union to get Findley out of office. They succeeded with that.

"Every lobby needs an enemy", says Findley, and the Israel lobby picks off individual Congressmen who oppose Israel, one by one.

STOP people from go and fight in Syria while Syrians, Kurds, "Rebels", Palestinians and Iraqis are targeted and killed in the masses, while Turkey and Israel fights protesters and Israeli idiots shoots minors, fishermen, abuse prisoners and uproot olive trees!!

The world demands Israel end the siege on Gaza and deplore Israeli systematic racist violence, crimes against the Palestinians and violations of human rights and International laws

Under the scope of the agreement to be signed between Turkey and Israel, Turkey will be authorized to send humanitarian aid supplies to Palestine and Gaza. Turkey will send an ambassador to Tel Aviv following the ratification of the agreement and the ambassador will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of humanitarian aid supplies.

Officials pointed out Turkey does not recognize the embargo, and the closure of the Rafah border exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The agreement sets forth the establishment of an order to permit Turkey to send humanitarian assistance to Gaza and the appointment of an ambassador to establish this order.

UN concerned over Gaza blockade, blames Israel for violations in West Bank

The UN's High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, has expressed her "deep concerns" over Israel's continued siege of the Gaza Strip, imposed since 2006. She also blamed Israeli settlers for most of the human rights violations in the occupied West Bank. Pillay delivered her remarks in Geneva at a special meeting of the Human Rights Council to debate Palestinian rights.

She told the UN council that, "The High Commissioner remained deeply concerned by the situation in Gaza where violence was on the increase, and where the continuing Israeli blockade, coupled with the recent destruction of most of the tunnel network with Egypt, had led to a significant deterioration of economic and social rights in Gaza."

In addition, Reuters quoted Pillay as saying: "Israeli settlement-related activities and settler violence are at the core of many of the violations of human rights in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem," adding that the settlement activities not only have a significant impact on Palestinians' right to self-determination, but "also violate the entire spectrum of Palestinians' social, cultural, civil and political rights".

Furthermore, Pillay stressed that: "Despite repeated calls for Israel to cease settlement activity, on-going settlement construction and [other] acts of settler violence continue with devastating consequences for Palestinian civilians." She also noted that UN monitors in the occupied West Bank had documented "a dramatic increase in fatalities and injuries in incidents of use of force by Israeli security forces" in 2013.

Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Filippo Grandi yesterday called on Israel and Egypt to lift the siege that has been imposed on the Gaza Strip for more than half a decade.

He said that the Rafah Crossing has been closed for the seventh consecutive week and it is necessary to remind Egypt of its obligations towards patients and students who are in desperate need to travel. "I think the world should not forget about the security of the people of Gaza," he said. "Their security is worth the same as everybody else's security so we appeal to the humanitarian sense of all."

Grandi called the Israeli blockade on Gaza "illegal and [it] must be lifted". He said that there are infrastructure projects run by the UNRWA worth $150 million. These projects are suspended until Israel lifts the siege, further harming the Palestinians.

"I also want to make a strong appeal for export to resume because the lack of export is the main reason for the poverty of Gaza," Grandi said. The official, who is leaving his office next week, said that the Gaza Strip has been suffering from a dangerous water problem, citing data mentioned in the UN 2020 report.

Palestinians are willfully denied proper treatment.

Ashraf Abu Dhra is one of many examples. In May 2006, he was imprisoned. In 2008, he became disabled. In detention, he suffered lung failure, immunodeficiency and a brain virus. Deplorable medical neglect killed him. In mid-November 2012, he was released. Ten days later, he lapsed into coma. On January 22, 2013, he died. Proper care would have saved him.

Addameer discussed Israeli medical negligence. It's longstanding. It's systematic. Palestinians are denied proper care. Most ill prisoners get painkillers at most. It substitutes for proper treatment. Seriously ill inmates wait weeks or months for hospitalization. Deplorable conditions gravely impact health. Sunlight is lacking. So is proper nutrition.

Ragheb Abu Dyak heads the Palestinian Prisoners' Club Association. Last November, he said health conditions for inmates were deplorable. More than one-third of prisoners suffer illnesses and diseases. Poor treatment exacerbates them. Incarceration assures a lifetime of pain and suffering for thousands. Since June 1967, well over 700,000 Palestinians were imprisoned. Most were males. According to Addameer, "the number of Palestinians detained (amounts to about) 40% of the total male Palestinian population in the OPT."

Arrests are routinely made. Palestinians are guilty of being non-Jews. Every day is Kristallnacht in Palestine. Normal life is denied. Racism is institutionalized. State terror is official Israeli policy. So is collective punishment. Fear is constant.

Peaceful public demonstrations are assaulted. Free expression and movement are prohibited. Population centers are isolated. Borders are closed. Crimes of war and against humanity repeat without redress. Wanting to live free in sovereign Palestine is called terrorism. Suffocating siege affects Gaza. Palestinian lawmakers are imprisoned for belonging to the wrong party. Crimes against humanity persist without end.

Palestinians are persecuted everywhere for any reason or none at all - at work, at home, at prayer, in school, at checkpoints, virtually anywhere. Appalling abuses follow. Prison conditions cut them off entirely from the outside world. Isolated prisoners suffer most. So do chronically ill ones. Proper treatment is willfully denied. Medical neglect is extreme. Required surgery takes months or years to get. Conditions go from bad to worse. "The only medicine given for the treatment of all diseases is painkillers," said Addameer

It's at epidemic levels in Israel's gulag hell. Medical neglect is an international crime. Palestinian Minister for Prisoners and former ones, Atallah Abu Subbah, said ill Palestinians endure systematic crimes against humanity in Israeli prisons. He called on international community leaders to intervene responsibly.

Appeal to the UN and International community stop Genocidal program against Rohingya by the State of Burma

2014 Census supervised by UNPFA and Rohingya

Abuses of human right violations continues against Rohingya as well as on community in Arakan by the state of Burma and the State sponsored 969 Rakhine Extremists and authority.

Rohingya are being threatened in every village of Arakan State by the authority. Authority threaten to kill all Rohingya if they use their own name “Rohingya”. It is the greatest human right violation on Earth that a person’s original name is robbed by force.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker Moinuddin Khan Badal suggested parliament that Bangladesh should take steps to draw attention of the world community for creating a safe zone for protecting 15 lakh oppressed Rohingyas in Arakan in Myanmar. He also urged the government to pursue the international community to create a safe zone for the Rohingyas in Arakan and take a proactive foreign policy so that they might live with safety in their homeland.

According to Census law of 2014, Burma, everyone has right to answer freely but Rakhine authority, Rakhine Extremists ,State sponsored 969 groups and military leaders in civilian dress have been terrorizing Rohingya not to use the term.

We appeal American citizens, Europeans and Arabs to provide immediate protection for Rohingya and save Burma from Neo-Nazism appeared as 969 Buddhists in Burma otherwise State will eliminate all Rohingya very soon and Neo-Nazism of Burma may threaten regional peace and security.

3 YPG fighters lost their lives in a suicide attack in Tirbespiye (al-qahtaniye)

"We call upon all international organisations including the European Union and the United Nations to take a stance. We call on these organisations to stand by the Kurdish people. The resistance of the people of Kobane is not only significant for the people of Kobane. This is a matter of security for everyone."

Defend Kobanê: Urgent call to UN and European Union
March 25, 2014, Enver Muslim, President of the Kobanê Canton:

YPG fighters are defending Kobane against ISIS gangs

The region of Kobanê (Ayn-Al-Arab) has been under attack from gangs linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) for about 3 weeks. ISIS has been attacking the area from three directions: Jarablus to the west, Sarrin to the south, and Tal Abyad to the east.

They have surrounded Kobanê from three sides after gathering all their forces deployed in Deyrel Zor, Halep, Raqqa, Lazkiye and other regions around the Kobane Canton. Hundreds of Kurds and Arabs have been forced to leave their homes in villages in Rakka and Tel Abyad due to threats from ISIS.

The aim of these attacks is to sever links between the Kurdish cantons of Kobane, Afrin and Cizîre that were declared in January this year. The Canton of Kobane, was the first declared canton. We are seeing the current attacks as revenge against the Kurdish solution of Democratic Autonomy. The attacks are aiming to punish our people for their demands of the internationally legitimate right to self-determination, which was practised in Rojava in the form of the Cantons.

The goal of the attacks in Rojava and Kobanê is to install the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) in the lands of Syria. Surrounding countries and in particular Turkey are continuing to support these forces, because these states were not happy with the Kurdish solution of Cantons.

These various gangs, particularly ISIS, are saying that they are against the Syrian regime; they say that they are coming to power with their advances against Damascus, Dêrezor, and Lazkiye. But in recent days they have pulled their forces back from here and sent them to Rojava.

The clear aim is to destroy the Kurdish solution of Democratic Autonomy in Syria, which was organised due to the three Cantons. Since the ISIS is surrounding the Canton they are targeting the civilians systematically.

In addition to our call to the Kurdish political parties as well as the Kurdish people, we are calling for immediate aid and international diplomatic and political intervention to stop these current attacks. So long as the attacks of ISIS will continue the people of the Kobane canton will face a serious human tragedy. It seems that the ISIS will continue to surround the whole region.

Since the attack of ISIS and Al Qaeda the population of the Kobanê Canton has tripled and reached nearly 700.000.

The only border crossing open at present is the Mürşitpınar (Kobane) gate opened to Urfa’s Suruç in Turkey. The UN and EU must ensure the opening of border gates from Turkey for humanitarian aid and human rights organisations. Furthermore, the UN and EU must urge Turkey for an immediate halt to support for the gangs against the Kurdish people in Rojava.

Kobanê Canton calls for immediate humanitarian aid

Süleyman Xelil in charge of humanitarian aid in the Rojava canton of Kobanê, which has been subjected to intensified attacks of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham) in recent days, has called for immediate aid.

Xelil said that armed groups of the ISIS have surrounded Kobanê from three sides after gathering all their forces deployed in Deyrel Zor, Halep, Raqqa, Lazkiye and other regions around the Canton.

Noting that clashes are still going on in the Arabic-inhabited villages of Sirrin, Qubê and Cehdê, which are currently held by opposition groups, Xelil said ISIS forces deployed tanks around Cerablus and Sirrin while they also launched tank attacks against the Kendal village located in the eastern part of the canton.

According to Xelil, nine members of the YPG (People’s Defense Units) have lost their life and dozens of gang members were killed in clashes in the mentioned region. Xelil said the passports of the killed or surrendered gangs revealed that they came from various countries such as Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Federal Kurdistan Region, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Turkey and Chechenia.

Xelil remarked that the only border crossing open at present is the Mürşitpınar (Kobani) gate opened to Urfa’s Suruç district, and added;

“Border crossings cannot be closed to humanitarian aid and human rights organizations. The closure of border gates is a violation of the human rights of the people in the canton.”

According to Xelil, the population of the Kobanê Canton has tripled and reached nearly 700 thousand recently. “In addition to the YPG’s call for mobilization, we are calling for immediate aid. We are going through a very bad period as the flour we currently have will finish one month later when hunger will erupt unless we receive immediate aid. We don’t have the opportunity to buy wheat from other cantons due to the ongoing surrounding of our region”, Xelil said and added that flour, tent, blanket, bed, medical supplies were among the main needs of the people in the canton.

ISIS terrorists are attacking Rojava Kurds

The YPG (People’s Protection Units) call has been echoed by PKK leader Murat Qaraylan who condemned the Syrian opposition groups and Western powers for not helping the YPG fight terrorist groups. He warned the West of the danger they pose to Syria and also stated that Kurds can never marginalized in the Middle East again.

The YPG said the objective of the attacks is to seize control of the Rimelan oil fields, force the evacuation of Kurdish villages near the border with Turkey and sever links between the recently-established cantons of West Kurdistan.

Hundreds of Kurds and Arabs have been forced to leave their homes in villages in Rakka and Tel Abyad due to threats from ISIS. Surrounding countries and in particular Turkey are continuing to support these forces, because these states were not happy with the Kurdish solution of Cantons.

The Kurds in Syria are Surrounded by Terrorist Groups

Rojava (Syria) terrorist groups have surrounded the town of Kobane, one of the three cantons declared by the Kurds, and are threatening a massacre. The objective of these gangs to surround and capture Kobane is indirectly being supported by the Turkish and Syrian states.

It is a well known fact that the fighters of these gangs are receiving military and logistical support through the Akcakale border crossing (Akcakale is the Turkish-Syrian border crossing controlled by ISIS on the Syrian side) from the Turkish state.

At the same time, these gangs are going to Kobane in front of the eyes of the Syrian state and military; they remain silent. This only means that there is a joint objective to attack and massacre the Kurds.

In response to this, the women, youth and elderly of Kobane are showing resistance. This resistance is a resistance of the people against tanks and heavy artillery. So far, many people have lost their lives from both sides. It is incomprehensible that the international arena can remain silent in the face of these events.

Since the beginning of these attacks, for the past three days, the silence of the international community has been deafening; on the contrary, it is a human responsibility, an ethical responsibility and a legal responsibility to stand by the Kurdish people at this time.

The people of Kobane are resisting, and they will continue to resist. If the resistance of Kobane is broken, then the strength of radical terrorists in Syria will solidify. In this sense, the resistance of the people of Kobane is not only significant for the people of Kobane. This is a matter of security for everyone. To stand by the Kurds of Kobane, is to stand by democracy and freedom.

In this regard, we call upon all international organisations including the European Union and the United Nations to take a stance. We call on these organisations to stand by the Kurdish people. We also call upon all human rights activists, civil societies and democratic institutions of the world to be in solidarity with the Kurdish people.

URGENT APPEAL FROM KOBANE CANTON - NEW SYRIA - OLD WEST KURDISTAN!

Kobanê, 25th March 2014, Urgent Call to UN and European Union The region of Kobanê (Ayn-Al-Arab) has been under attack from gangs linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) for about 3 weeks.

A Zionist Solution to The Kurdish Problem

The Kurdish people have a rich history. They are believed by most historians to be descendants of the Medeans, who in the 7th Century BC, ruled an empire stretching from Modern day Turkey to India for 150 years. The grandson of the then king orchestrated a coup and replaced the political elite with Persians and then became king. He has come to be known as Cyrus the Great, a Kurd not a Persian. During the Crusades Al Aqsa was liberated by a great king known as Salahudine Al Ayubi, who was a Kurd and who even became known amongst his enemies as ‘Salahudine The Merciful’.

Today however the Kurds are one of the most oppressed peoples. In Turkey the PKK (Kurdish Workers Party) are outlawed and many have taken to the mountains and turned to guerrilla warfare. Turkey has tried to annihilate the Kurdish culture, language and even their identity. The Kurds also suffered ethnic cleansing when Saddam Hussein massacred entire villages in Iraq, and more recently we heard of 450 Kurds being killed, mainly women and children by “Al Qaeda” in Syria, in the group’s attempt to create a state in the north of the country. There is no doubt that the Kurds are a threatened minority in many countries.

However I believe we have found a solution to the “Kurdish Problem”. Think for a second about a country of Kurdistan, not in regions where the Kurds currently live, but in another continent altogether. My recommendation would be Britain as there are already 90,000 Kurds living peacefully alongside many other communities.

In order to do this we shall need the backing of a superpower, like for example China, who can count on us as an ally within an area with many anti-Chinese governments. In return China can supply the new “Kurdistan” with a nuclear arsenal.

There is a small problem. There are already 63 million people living in Britain, but this can be easily solved by pushing these people into Wales and East Anglia and allowing them to continue calling these regions Britain. We can continue to build Kurdish settlements on these regions and restrict the British people’s movement with roadblocks between towns. Building a wall around East Anglia may also be necessary. This might seem harsh but remember the massacres of Kurds in Iraq and Syria!

Of course we shall expect some resistance from the British people. But we can just label these people “terrorists” and “extremists”. Britain has engaged in many terrorist acts in the past, within Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, not to mention imperial conquests, therefore it will not be hard to paint them as violent barbarians to the rest of the world. Also, every so often we can find an excuse to invade their regions and kill some of them to try and shut them up. Should the United Nations try to intervene, we can count on our Chinese friends to veto their decisions. This might be deceiving people, but remember the massacres of Kurds in Iraq and Syria!

Neither can we rely on support from the majority of Kurds, as they most likely will believe in stupid ideas like “Human Rights”. However once again there is a solution. We can label them “Self Hating Kurds”. We must encourage Kurds to come as much as possible by giving them free houses with swimming pools, whilst discouraging the Brits by not giving them simple necessities like water and medicine. Also, arresting and harassing most of the British children will also make their lives unbearable, encouraging them to flee the region. I know this might sound horrific, but remember the massacres of Kurds in Iraq and Syria!

We can paint any international resistance as racist and anti-Kurdish, and due to the racism Kurds are already suffering this shouldn’t be hard. Remember to keep bringing up the massacres in Iraq and Syria!

Eventually we shall make life so unbearable for British peoplethat the most they can hope for is just an independent Wales and East Anglia, and so they will give up on liberating the rest of their lands. We shall call the process “The Kurdistani-Celtic Conflict”, so that it seems more two sided and not like we’re just stealing an innocent people’s country from them. Plus, by using the term Celtic instead of British we can make people believe that they already have Ireland, so why are they being so greedy? I mean remember the massacre of Kurds in Iraq and Syria!

When looking for a solution to the Kurdish Problem why not use the tried and tested example of Israel. Yes Israel is hated by most of the world and yes they kill hundreds of thousands of people in Palestine alone, but those people aren’t us, are they?

"The Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip is no longer acceptable or justifiable, neither politically nor morally. "

25 Mar 2014, Middle East Monitor - The Emir of Qatar; Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani today called on all Arabs to end the Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip to allow Gaza's residents to move freely and live normal lives.

Speaking before the Arab Summit in Kuwait, Al-Thani said; "The Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip is no longer acceptable or justifiable, neither politically nor morally. We have made efforts to alleviate the suffering of Gaza and overcome the fuel crises."

The Sheikh called on the Palestinian leadership to end its political division and form a transitional government according to the Cairo Agreement of 2011 and the Doha Declaration of 2012.

The Emir said that Arab states have to fulfil their financial commitments to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in the face of Israeli policies.

Al-Thani pointed out that the Israeli policies represent an obstacle to achieving peace by evading international resolutions and demanding new conditions during every round of negotiations. "The settlement activity, the Judaisation of Jerusalem and the settlers' attacks against Al-Aqsa Mosque hinders peace efforts and leave Arabs doubtful of the peace process."

Egypt: More than 500 sentenced to death in 'grotesque' ruling

Today's mass death sentences handed down by an Egyptian court are a grotesque example of the shortcomings and the selective nature of Egypt's justice system, Amnesty International said.

According to state media reports, in a single hearing this morning, the Minya Criminal Court sentenced 529 supporters of former President Mohamed Morsi to be executed for their alleged role in violence following his ousting in July last year.

"This is injustice writ large and these death sentences must be quashed. Imposing death sentences of this magnitude in a single case makes Egypt surpass most other countries' use of capital punishment in a year," said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Deputy Middle East and North Africa Programme Director at Amnesty International. "This is the largest single batch of simultaneous death sentences we've seen in recent years, not just in Egypt but anywhere in the world."

Egypt's courts are quick to punish Mohamed Morsi's supporters but ignore gross human rights violations by the security forces. While thousands of Morsi's supporters languish in jail, there has not been an adequate investigation into the deaths of hundreds of protesters. Just one police officer is facing a prison sentence, for the deaths of 37 detainees.

"Without an independent and impartial process that can deliver truth and justice for all, many will question whether Egypt's criminal justice system has indeed anything to do with justice. In any event, recourse to the death penalty is inherently unjust, and the Egyptian authorities should impose a moratorium on executions, with a view to abolishing it."

Egypt's authorities do not release figures on death sentences and executions, despite repeated requests over the years by Amnesty International. The organization knows that Egyptian courts handed down at least 109 death sentences in 2013, after at least 91 death sentences in 2012, and at least 123 in 2011. The last known execution was carried out in October 2011, when one man was hanged for the killing of six Coptic Christians and a Muslim police guard in a drive-by shooting in January 2010.

Egypt's costly revolution

Even though Egypt has begun to ease the emergency situation that has gripped the country since the revolution a year ago, the economy still has a long way to recover. Unemployment is up, and the country’s biggest money earner, tourism is down.

Foreign currency and gold reserves have plummeted from $32bln to $18.2bn in a year. The Egyptian Pound fell to an historic low against the dollar at just 16 cents despite vigorous support from the Central Bank.

Egypt has asked the International Monetary Fund for $3.2 billion of loans. But experts doubt, this sum would be enough for the Egyptian economy to keep going. The economy suffers from a lack of experienced management as Ministers who have run branches of industry for many years lost their posts.

Many industries have sunk into decay, with the catalyst for social unrest unemployment continuing to grow. The civil war in Libya has also affected Egypt’s labour market as about 1 million Egyptians, who worked in Libya returned home seeking a job and security.

Post-Revolution 'Disastrous' for Egyptian Economy

The January 25 revolution in Egypt had important economic implications. These ought to be examined given that the economic [dissatisfaction] was one of the most important reasons behind the revolution along with the more general widespread malaise reigning in Egypt, particularly among young people.

The post-revolutionary period has proven disastrous for the Egyptian economy. The fact that the growth rate has fallen does not measure up to the fact that all new political forces have yet to devise concrete and viable economic policies, writes Samir al-Tannir. The author argues that a socialist system is surely on the horizon in Egypt.

The fact is that the toppled regime failed to provide a decent life for the majority as it was busy supporting the corrupt elite. Therefore, the young took to the streets to demand "Life, freedom and social justice," three basic rights of which they were deprived during the era of Mubarak.

The grievances that led to the January 25 revolution were primarily political, but economic problems played their fair share as well.

The U.S. is supporting oppression in Egypt

Ahmed Maher founded the April 6 Youth Movement that advocated freedom and democracy in Egypt and an end to the regime of Hosni Mubarak. Egyptian media outlets have been circulating the news that the U.S. Congress passed a law that would allow the Obama administration to continue sending military aid to Egypt despite its military coup last summer and the massacres and human rights violations that have followed.

Egyptian state media are proudly interpreting the legislation as U.S. acceptance of the new situation in Egypt, as a welcome return to previous U.S.-Egyptian relations and as U.S. support for all of the new regime’s actions.

Israel PM vows no let-up after deadly West Bank raid

In excessive use of force, on Saturday, 22 March 2014, Israeli forces killed, 2 Palestinians and a member of a Palestinian armed group and wounded 12 civilians and a member of the Palestinian National Security Forces in Jenin refugee camp, west of the northern West Bank town of Jenin.

Israeli forces claimed via the Israeli media that they killed 3 Palestinians during armed clashes in the aforementioned refugee camp. However, investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) investigations refute the Israeli claim and confirm that the two civilians were killed as Israeli forces opened fire heavily at dozen of civilians who were trying to pull and carry the militant’s body in the centre of the camp.

According to investigations conducted by PCHR, at approximately 02:00 on the Saturday, 22 March 2014, an Israeli special military force from “Alimam” Unit in the Israeli military, which is described as “an anti-terrorism unit” infiltrated into the south of Jenin refugee camp, west of Jenin. The Israeli force surrounded a two-storey house belonging to the family of ‘Azmi Mohammed Mahmoud al-Hasaniyah in Tal’et al-Ghabes area. Israeli forces then sent large military back-ups, which were deployed throughout the camp while Israeli drones were hovering overhead.

Israeli snipers ascended roofs of nearby houses after they received information that Hamzah Jamal ‘Abdel Salam Abu al-Heijah (22), the local leader of the Izziddin al-Qassam brigades, was in the house. After the military back-ups had arrived, Israeli forces blew up the main door of the houses and opened fire.

They then yelled at residents of the house to get out. When the residents were about to come out and Mohammed (23), the son of the house’s owner who is member of the Palestinian National Security Forces, opened the external door, he was shot in the left shoulder. Amidst the screams of his family, the shooting stopped and the residents began to get out one by one while Abu al-Heijah stayed in a room on the second floor.

Israeli forces arrested Mohammed and his brother, Majd (18), and took the rest of the family members to a nearby house. They then entered a tracker dog into the house, but Hamzah killed it. Israeli forces showered the house with live bullets and shells fired by machine guns and then used shoulder-fired missiles. As a result, the house was partially destroyed.

Meanwhile, clashes broke out between Palestinians, who stationed in the areas of al-Sahah and Abu Thahir Mountain areas, and Hamzah from the house from one side and the Israeli forces, which were surrounding the house, from the other side. Hamzah took advantage of this and jumped from one of the western windows of the house. As soon as he stepped a few meters, the snipers opened fired and immediately killed him.

They left him for two hours to bled to death in the alley. Young men then tried to pull his body, and Israeli forces opened fire at them. However, they managed to pull it. When they were passing by al-Sahah area, Israeli forces opened fire killing two of them: Yazan Mahmoud Basem Taha “Jabarin” (20) who was hit by a bullet to the chest; and Mahmoud ‘Omer Saleh Abu Zeinah (24), who was hit by a bullet to the chest.

When the news of the death of 3 persons spread out, the camp residents started coming out of their houses. Immediately, the Israeli snipers opened fire at these civilians wounding 11 of them, including a 65-year-old woman. Thus, the number of wounded persons mounted to 12 civilians.

It should be mentioned that Hamzah Abu al-Heijah is the son of Jamal Abu al-Heijah, who is serving a sentence of 9 life imprisonments in the Israeli jails. Hamzah had been subject to several extra-judicial execution attempts, the last of which was on 18 December 2013 when an Israeli special unit targeted him. However, he managed to escape and Nafe’a Jamil Nafe’a al-Sa’adi was killed.

PCHR strongly condemns this crime, which further proves the use of excessive force by Israeli forces against Palestinian civilians in disregard for their lives. PCHR calls upon the international community to take immediate and effective action to stop Israeli crimes and reiterates its call for the High Contracting Parties to the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention to fulfill their obligations under Article 1; i.e., to respect and to ensure respect for the Convention in all circumstances, and their obligation under Article 146 to prosecute persons alleged to commit grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

These grave breaches constitute war crimes under Article 147 of the same Convention and Protocol (I) Additional to the Geneva Conventions.

ICJ should assess legal status of prolonged Israeli occupation of Palestine, says UN rights expert

21 March 2014 – The United Nations Special Rapporteur on occupied Palestine, Richard Falk, today called for an assessment by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the legal status of the prolonged Israeli occupation of Palestine, and allegations that it has legally unacceptable characteristics of ‘colonialism’, ‘apartheid’ and ‘ethnic cleansing.’

“Special steps must be taken to ensure that the human rights of the Palestinian people are protected and the rule of law established in an occupation which has lasted now for more than 45 years,” Mr. Falk said after serving six years as the independent expert charged by the Human Rights Council to monitor and report on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.

In his final report*, the Special Rapporteur also calls on the UN Human Rights Council to examine the legal implications of the occupation of Palestine. And urges the international community to act decisively to uphold Palestinian human rights.

“Ongoing settlement expansion remains a serious obstacle and undermines prospects for Palestinian self-determination” he said, noting that the number of settlements built in the West Bank doubled in 2013, according to Israeli official data. “So far, there have been no signs of change in this trend for 2014 and Israel has already defiantly approved the construction of hundreds of new homes in the first three months of the year despite the ongoing peace negotiations.”

The UN expert also reiterated concerns on the Wall, recalling that, in 2004, the ICJ declared its construction  illegal in occupied Palestine. An estimated 85% of the planned route of the Wall lies within the West Bank; more than 60% of a planned 708 km has been completed and construction continues. “Such a course of action undermines respect for international law and should be challenged,” Mr. Falk underscored.

The Special Rapporteur called for urgent attention to the deterioration of the situation in East Jerusalem, which the report describes as a “microcosm of the fragmentation of territory taking place throughout the West Bank”.

He noted that “more than 11,000 Palestinians have lost their right to live in Jerusalem since 1996, under rules imposed by Israel.” The potential liability of companies who profit from settlements is also analyzed in the report. “The international community is starting to react responsibly in relation to issues of corporate social responsibility,” Mr. Falk said.

“Some companies and countries are increasingly moving away from engagement with settlements on the basis of their illegality under international law; these examples are to be commended and should be followed by others.”

The human rights expert also expressed his views on a worsening humanitarian situation in occupied Gaza, noting that “the effects of the blockade, coupled with regional developments, are having a severe impact on the civilian population of Gaza.”

“We mustn’t forget that thousands of Palestinian political detainees, including children, remain in Israeli prisons. Among them are more than a hundred administrative detainees. Many of them are subjected to ill-treatment and torture from the time of their arrest to their interrogation in detention” the Special Rapporteur said.

Speaking before his final appearance as Special Rapporteur at the Human Rights Council, Mr. Falk stressed the importance of this mandate to bear witness to the serious human rights violations that continue to afflict the Palestinian people after more than four and half decades of occupation.

“In the face of Israel’s continuing refusal to cooperate with this mandate, accentuated by defamatory attacks by political NGOs intent on undermining it, it is of the utmost importance that my successor is supported and enabled by the UN and the Human Rights Council, to report objectively on the human rights violations being endured by the Palestinian people,” he stressed.

The Special Rapporteur is scheduled to present his final report to the Human Rights Council on Monday 24 March 2014.

The latest round of US-driven negotiations has yet to engender a significant, organized response from Palestinians in the Diaspora.

Details have emerged in recent weeks as to the shape that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s “framework agreement” is likely to take, both in reports by Palestinian officials and in columns by U.S. analysts: Not only would there be a truncated Palestinian state with significant Israeli controls remaining in some fashion, but the Palestinian right of return would be eliminated entirely.

Given the gravity of the decisions that could be made on behalf of Palestinians – including an “end of claims” arising out of the conflict – one would expect a more forceful response in responding to these proposals.

If the PLO/PA was to come to a final settlement with Israel tomorrow, and, in doing so, purported to “end all claims” of the Palestinian people, states and international bodies – even those like the International Court of Justice – could conceivably accept its decision as having been made on behalf of all Palestinians.

To propose a concrete strategy for popular action, some initial steps could include: Organize locally and establish popular forums for Palestinians to discuss the likely terms of any agreement, their implications, and the extent to which such an agreement would be palatable.

Establish and strengthen alliances and networks of Palestinians across the globe that are unified around common goals and demands.

Establish and communicate to the PA/PLO and international stakeholders the red lines and basic demands that must respected in any agreement signed in the name of the Palestinian people must respect.

Identify strategies to increase public pressure on Palestinian negotiators to hold to those red lines and to pursue national goals and aspirations.

There is a growing, uncomfortably Orwellian feel to the BBC’s constant censoring of anything that Israel and its supporters may find disagreeable.

Among the Corporation’s attempts to justify itself we have been told that the suggestion that Palestine is not free is “contentious”.

It should be blindingly obvious that the belligerent military occupation of one people by another would be contentious. One side will want to justify it and the victims will want to expose it and appeal for justice. People should be free to hear both sides of any argument and make up their own minds. By setting itself up as both judge and jury, the BBC is exhibiting what seems to be contempt for the public’s intelligence – not to mention the hard-won provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention
