Call to United Nations to halt Iranian bombings, incursions into Northern Iraq

CPTnet, 30 July 2011, IRAQ URGENT ACTION: Ask Iranian Ambassador, United Nations to halt Iranian bombings, incursions into Northern Iraq

Artillery shelling, helicopter strafing, and rocket attacks initiated a month ago by Iran in the mountainous regions of its border with Iraq have steadily intensified over the past two weeks. Four civilians are dead, twelve injured, and more than 800 families have been displaced from their village homes.

These attacks not only violate international law and combat zone limitations but also destroy Kurdish communal life and harvests from recently planted fields and gardens.

Informed reports indicate that more than 15,000 additional Iranian soldiers have arrived along with about 200 officers from the Turkish army to further escalate this campaign.

The Iranian military has erected military outposts inside Iraqi territory to provide surveillance and targeting information, and Iranian tanks have moved to within striking range of villages.

This conflicted mountainous region has been the home of the Kurdish people for more than 5000 years. The villagers inherited their way of life from their ancestors, a way of life that should be protected and passed along to the children who will follow them.

Opposition is growing to this assault by Iran. The CPT Iraq team urges its constituency to join its voice with many others to condemn this tragedy and prevent further disruption and damage and death.

Please contact the Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations and send an annotated copy of your protest to the United Nations Human Rights Council:

The assaults by Iran in the mountainous regions of the border with Iraq is destroying lives, property, and community. I condemn these brutal actions against the Kurdish people and the human family. Please use the influence of your office to end this senseless disruption.

Turkish Armed Forces bombs Dersim with cobra type helicopters and set forest on fire

30 July 2011. While the military operation continues in Aliboğazı region of Dersim, a forest fire has started in a large area of the region. Besides the military operation in Dersim, Ovacik and Hozat triangle, deep valleys in the region are reportedly bombed with cobra type helicopters of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) since yesterday. The region witnessed a forest fire in the same region last year which lasted two months and destroyed hundreds of hectares of a forested land.

Dersim genocide refers to genocide and depopulation of Dersim in 1937-1938, in which approximately 65,000-70,000 Alevi Kurds were committed genocide on and thousands were taken into exile. The area is still attacked, burnt, bombed, with ongoing killings. That means to be exactly 73 years of exterminations.

A key component of the Turkification process was the policy of massive population resettlement. Referring to the main policy document in this context, the 1934 law on resettlement, a policy targeting the region of Dersim as one of its first test cases, with disastrous consequences for the local population.

In 1937-1938, approximately 40.000-70.000 people were massacred and after the events the British consul in Trebizond (Trabzon), wrote of the "dichtstbijzijnde diplomatische mail of Dersim, over brute violence by which no differences were made between men or women."

Also he made an explicit comparison with the Armenian genocide in 1915. "Thousand Kurds," he wrote, "women and children were slaughtered, others, mainly children, were drowned in the Eufraat. Thousand were first stripped of their cattle and other possessions before they were deported to vilayets (provinces) in Central Anatolië. It now is said that the Kurdish question no longer consists in Turkey."

Women and children hid in deep caves. Thousand of men, women and children were trapped and suffocated in these caves, because the army closed the entrance of the caves and set them on fire. These caves were marked with numbers on the military files of the territory. Those who tried to escape were killed with bayonets.

A large part of the women and girls of the Kureyshan and Bakhtiyar descend threw themselves from high cliffs in the Munzur and Parchick ravine and drowned in the Munzur. Taylan Ozgur wrote in the article "Child in Dersim" an affirmation of this: "There are thousands drowned in the river Munzur."

The tribe leaders of Bakhtiyar were tortured and shot. Everybody that tried to escape or sought shelter were executed. The women and children were locked up in hay sheds/haystacks that were set on fire.

When the winter approached the army bid a truce. They promised that the tribes would be left in peace. These promises were made with the leader Seyyit Riza. But Seyyit was arrested with fifty man which were executed with Seyyit Riza.

The military went further on a larger scale In the spring of 1938. The Karabal, Ferhad and Pilvank descends were massacred and the women and children were burnt alive.

The Pilvank and Abbas descends were rounded up in rows and shot. The women and girls were rounded up and sprinkled with kerosene and burnt. Khech, the head town of the Sheykh Mehmedan descend was attacked in the night and all inhabitants of the town were killed by machine guns and artillery fire.

The inhabitants of the Hozat city and the Karace descend, men, women and children were driven to a "dichtstbijzijnde" military camp outside Hozat and were shot with machine guns.

Thousand women and children drowned in the Munzur river. The entire territory was covered with poisonous gas. Even young men of Dersim served in the Turkish army were separated and shot.

In the spring of 1938, the government offered an amnesty to the Karabal, Ferhad, Pilvank, Sheykh Mehmedan and Karaca descends, but they were all exterminated along with most of the Kureyshan from the Mazgirt district and the Yusufan and the Bakhtiyar descends. They were mass murdered in the masses, in many cases with bayonets.

At the end of the summer, the Hormekan, Kureyshan and Alan of the Nazimiye district and a part of the Bamasuran and Mazgirt were all massacred and exterminated also by means of gas or bayonets. Their bodies were sprinkled with kerosene and burnt.

The mass slaughters in Dersim were carried out with brute violence. The intention to destroy the Kurdish culture can be traced from the decision of the council of ministers over the exterminations of Dersim on 4 May 1937.

The council ordered to complete destroy the towns and to remove people and families. The military reports named the entire people of Dersim as bandits (haydut.) Most men in Dersim did not spoke the Turkish language.

An observer who had relations with the government was enthusiastic after the Dersim genocide over the so-called positive effects: "The tribe leaders, religious leaders and their supporters had been caught taken and deported to the west. The successful military operations have for once and all cleared the bandits movement in Tunceli. Dersim has been liberated, there is no places where the army is not. Again the army a tremendous task has exported and earns the eternal grace of the Turkish nation."

Michael Rubin, Turkey´s Abdullah Gul on the 30 years ongoing genocide in Sri Lanka

By Michael Rubin, June 6, 2011: U.S. Should Celebrate Sri Lanka, Not Condemn It. In May 2009, the army of the South Asian island nation of Sri Lanka did what decades of UN diplomatic intervention and State Department pronouncements could not do. It ended its 26-year war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, more commonly known as the Tamil Tigers.

The war not only extracted a tremendous economic cost, but had a massive human cost—the UN estimated that the death toll might exceed 100,000. In the end, Sri Lankan action was both merciless and effective. The army reconquered Tamil Tiger-held territory and slaughtered the group's leadership. The final battle was messy, but with the Tigers gone, both Sri Lankan Sinhalese and Tamils can get on with their lives and, with luck and persistence, build a strong, democratic, and prosperous state.

The Tamil Tigers were an atrocious bunch who kidnapped children and slaughtered civilians in Sri Lanka, and terrorized the Tamil Diaspora with mafia-style extortion with which they funded their terror campaign. They maintained close links with terrorist groups and rogue states. For example, they reportedly helped train the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Congressional Research Service reported ties as well between North Korea and the Tigers.

Earlier this month, Assistant Secretary of State Robert Blake traveled to Sri Lanka. Among the points on his agenda Blake was reportedly instructed to urge the Sri Lankan government open a war crimes investigation into their army's actions which ended the civil war. War is hell, and the Sri Lankan army was brutal during the war's climax, but this brutality was well-justified, ended the conflict, and ultimately saved lives.

Further, the Tigers seldom if ever abided by the laws of war, and so it is rich to upbraid the Sri Lankan army for showing little restraint. Rather than sully a victory over terrorism, the Obama administration should celebrate it. And rather than condemn an ally, the White House should congratulate it.

Sri Lanka’s President made a phone call to his Turkish counterpart

Turkish daily Hurriyet newspaper (21.05.09) under its front-page title, “The ‘how-we-eradicated-terrorism call’ to Gul”, reports that following his victory over Tamil Tigers, Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa called his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul. Mr Rajapaksa had paid a visit to Turkey in December and held discussions about the separatist terrorism.

In a phone conversation with Mr Rajapaksa, Mr Gul expressed his pleasure over Sri Lanka’s victory over the terrorist organisation Tamil Tigers whose leaders have been killed. Mr Gul also said that Turkey is ready to send humanitarian aid to the Sri Lankan people. As the paper writes, at their meeting in December, Mr Gul said that both countries suffer a lot from terrorism. In response to Mr Gul, Mr Rajapaksa said: “There is no such thing as a good terrorist or a bad terrorist. All terrorists are bad.”

Hurriyet, Dec 29, 2006, Istanbul, Turkey -- Among the 450 homes ordered built by Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a Buddhist region of Sri Lanka hit hard by the tsunami two years ago, a Buddhist temple was also built with Turkish funds. State Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin yesterday recounted his impressions of the work done in Sri Lanka following the tsunami to the Council of Ministers in Ankara.

The minister had recently returned from a ceremony in the region dedicating the new homes to the victims of the tsunami in both Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

Sahin said yesterday, "In particular, the Buddhist temple built by Turkey in Sri Lanka has attracted a lot of interest. In fact, Buddhist monks came to two mosques in Colombo to thank the imams there for Turkey's initiative." Sahin reported that in both Sri Lanka and Indonesia, gratitude to Turkey for keeping its promises following the tsunami disaster was at an all time high.

KNC-NA: The Iranian terror squads have been terrorizing-assassinating the Kurdish people in their own ancestral homeland for more than three decades.

KNC-NA Statement on Iran-PJAK War

28 July 2011, Kurdish National Congress of North America released a statement condemning Iran's operation against South Kurdistan and urged Iran to stop the bloodshed. Kurdish National Congress of North America released a statement condemning Iran's operation against South Kurdistan and urged Iran to stop the bloodshed.

The statement read the folowing:

Recently Iran has expanded its destructive and violent occupation policy of Kurdistan in the East to West to include the territory of Kurdish Regional Government in Iraq in the latest escalation of the bloodshed. The excuse for this military action is to stop the "Armed Resistance and guerilla activities" of Party of Life and Freedom, PJAK. Iran calls PJAK a terrorist group and PJAK along with many organizations and states brand Iran a terrorist state.

To our knowledge PJAK has not, threatened or carried out any violent attacks against any Iranian civilians, nor has it force outside of the Kurdish territories. Its armed resistance is only in Kurdish territory to defend themselves from the brutality of Iranian military. In contrast with PJAK, the Iranian religious terror squads have been terrorizing, arresting, and assassinating the Kurdish people in their own ancestral homeland for more than three decades. Both sides claim they have killed large numbers of the enemy in the recent escalation of violence.

Violence and disregard for human life and suffering only results in a lose-lose situation for all in this political game; the real losers are those with the least amount of power, essentially the civilian Kurdish population who is helpless in defending itself against a state with large military resources who has much at its disposal and a state media which can and is distorting and spreading the "Untruth".

We urge PJAK not to fall for the manipulative policy of the Islamic Republic. The Kurdish guerrilla forces should try to avoid violence at any cost and consider the soldiers of their enemies as misguided souls who need guidance to understand the Kurdish cause.

We do not see the Islamic Republic a reliable party in this conflict which would abide by any standard or international human rights protocol let alone to address or behave humanely.

The regime has proven over and over again that it does not want to resolve the conflicts but always resorts to manipulation, threat, and killing and all form of oppression. Repeatedly it has carried out its violent behavior and its demeanor has not changed in the past 3 decades but rather gotten worst not only against the Kurds but also against its own people.

We urge the international communities and their leaders to pressure Iran to stop its terrorist policy, withdraw from Kurdistan, and let the people determine their destiny.

Turkish police behind systematically attacks - Kurds detained, jailed and expelled

50 Kurdish migrant workers expelled from Eskişehir

28 July 2011, 50 Kurdish migrant workers are expelled from Eskisehir after fighting with locals. Following a racist attack in Mihalıccık disrict against the Kurdish workers who came to the region as seasonal agricultural wokers, a quarrel was provoked where three of them seriously, eight workers were wounded.

While many people were detained and Action Force units were sent to the region after the event, villagers gathered in front of police and gendarmerie stations, opened Turkish flags and sang the Turkish National Anthem.

While seriously wounded brothers Yaşar and Osman Cay and Yeral Cifci are held in intensive care unit at Eskişehir State Hospital and other wounded undergo a treatment in the district, tension in the district ended with the expulsion of Kurdish migrant agricultural workers from the region.

50 agricultural workers, who left the district under the supervision of security forces, are now being taken to Dinar district of Afyonkarahisar province, escorted by gendarmerie and the police.

Denied access by Turkish army to the area where thirteen soldiers and two Kurdish guerrillas died on 14 July

Delegation prevented to reach clash area

27 July 2011, A delegation was denied access to the area where thirteen soldiers died on 14 July. It was in the air. Yet it was not only worth but a sort of duty trying. The delegation made up of representatives from Turkey Medical Doctors Association, Architect and Engineers Chambers Union (TMMOB), Confederation of Public Employee Trade Unions (KESK), Confederation of Revolutionary Workers Trade Union (DİSK), was prevented from reaching the area around Hazro in Silvan (a district of Diyarbakır) where on 14 of July 13 soldiers had died as well as two Kurdish guerrillas following clashes.

On Tuesday the first report on the events of 14 July was published by the Turkish Armed Forces and although being quite generic it was clear on one point: it had been a mistake - said the army - not to close the area to the public, especially to journalists. So there was little hope for the delegation of trade unions of being given permission from the governor. Yet it had to be tried because indeed the denial is one more proof of the fact that the army has something to hide.

The events leading to the death of 13 soldiers have different versions. The army simply and immediately put it down to the attack and ambush by the PKK guerrillas. But witnesses among the locals tell a completely different story. They have said that indeed the area was under heavy bombing by the army. And this eventually ignited the fire which left no escape possibility to the soldiers.

So, killed by friendly fire is the more accredited version among the locals. And to investigate this the trade unionists delegation was to go to the area. The army is denying that the fire had been ignited by its bombing. Indeed in the first report the army said that there were no planes involved in the clashes around Silvan, but only helicopters were in the area.

The report, although very very subtly does admit that there were some questionable matters regarding the incident that will be referred to the judiciary. These questions include, as far as the daily Today's Zaman reported, "whether the geographical conditions were appropriate for the establishment of a temporary military base where the casualties occurred; whether sufficient surveillance and preventative measures were taken ahead of the attack; whether sufficient measures were taken after the unit that came under attack received warnings of terrorist activity; and whether the helicopters sent to the scene of the attack were prepared for flight on time".

The Interior Ministery has also conducted its own investigation into the events and this will be released soon. Once again what strikes is the fact that the investigation has swiftly moved from the search of the truth (i.e. have the soldiers been killed by friendly fire ?) to the search for a scape goat. Indeed the main question remains unanswered: what really happened in Silvan?

Unanswered is also the question about the five guerrillas the army stated to have died. Only two bodies were recovered. What happened to the other three? Or rather, were there other three guerrillas?

The delegation today was supposed to go and investigate the area. It was prevented from doing that. And this is clearly another blow to democracy and the search for truth.

Previously, another delegation formed by the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and many NGOs, including the Human Rights Association (İHD), trade union confederations, MAZLUM-DER, the Bar Association, the Chamber of Medical Doctors, the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Architects and Engineers (TMMOB), went to the same area to investigate the events and stated in its initial report that there was no trace of a fire big enough to cause the death of 13 soldiers.

It is worth to remind that the Kurdish guerrillas (HPG, People's Defence Forces) are observing a non action period, which sparked doubts about a possible 'offensive' action as stated by the army.

The delegation waited for about an hour before deciding to go back to Diyarbakır from where they had set off in the morning.

Colonial regional states and international imperialist powers, particularly the United States impose a policy of denial and destruction against Kurds

Kurdistan People's Initiative's call to enhance democratic uprisings

27 July 2011, Kurdistan People's Initiative, pointing out to the invasion of the Iranian regime, remarked that this alliance also includes Turkey and international imperialist powers. The initiative made a call on Kurdish people to enhance the democratic uprisings.

Showing a strong response to the ongoing operations of the Iranian army at the borderline since July 16, Kurdistan People's Initiative said; "The denial and destruction policies applied on us, the people of Kurdistan, are kept going with the ugliest alliance and policies."

At four parts of Kurdistan, colonial regional states and international imperialist powers, particularly the United States, impose a non-statusless and a corresponding policy of denial and destruction against the people of Kurdistan.

The statement said; "We know it only too well that not only the Iranian state but also the allying countries and international imperialist powers, especially Turkey, lie behind the military operation against the Kurdish people and PJAK guerillas in Eastern Kurdistan."

All the policies on destruction of the people in Eastern Kurdistan are a part of the policy deemed proper for all the Kurds. A similar approach is intended to be imposed on the Kurdish people in our small southern part.

The leading actor of this denial and destruction policy is the Republic of Turkey who targets our national Kurdistan unity, with an intention and aim to invalidate our declaration of Democratic Autonomous Free Kurdistan and to expose the Kurdish people to a non-statusless and disidentification.

It is seen that the AKP government is openly making an invitation to make the Kurds be lynched.

As the people of Kurdistan, we are not remaining and we will not remain silent against all these happenings. For the first time in the history, we have declared a Democratic Autonomous Free Kurdistan with our freewill and own power and in a national unity. We will no more bow to the non-statusless, denial and destruction. We will govern ourselves with our freewill and we will let down all the attacks with the self-defense we will develop.

Making a call to all the people of Kurdistan, the Initiative said the followings; "We should protect and develop the national unity of Kurds, resist and win for the Democratic National Unity. We should protect, develop and institutionalize the Democratic Autonomous Free Kurdistan which we have reached with our own power and will for the first time in the history."

The fire of denial and destruction will burn not only the Kurds, but also Turks, Arabs, Assyrians and all other peoples. We shall refuse this and show a resistance against it.

For this reason, in order to let down all the ugly policies and to succeed, we are calling all the Kurdish people to develop our Democratic National Unity, to build the Democratic Autonomous Free Kurdistan and to enhance and take part in the Democratic Uprisings as from today.

After the Bilderberg meeting in Istanbul in 2007 Israel´s and Turkey´s military- bilateral trade rose to 2.7 billion

Online Journal: Wayne Madsen Report May 8, 2009, Australia’s Green-Left Online in a May 2 article by Sean O Floinn & Emma Clancy: “A largely defenseless people struggling to survive and hemmed in on a narrow strip of land, facing indiscriminate air strikes, assault from gun boats and cluster bombs by a well-equipped army, conjures up the image of the recent Israeli invasion of Palestine’s Gaza Strip.”

However, there is more to the comparisons between Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip and Sri Lanka’s attack on the narrow strip of the Jaffna peninsula. In May 2000, Sri Lanka and Israel resumed diplomatic relations. Although the corporate media are focusing on Sri Lanka’s military assistance from China, little mention is being made of the island nation’s military links with Israel.

Israeli military technicians arrived to maintain Sri Lanka’s Israeli-made Kfir fighter-bombers and Russian MiG-27 aircraft and provided Sri Lanka with Dvora fast naval attack craft. Israeli arms and ammunition were also flooding into Sri Lanka.

Israeli military advisers and “consultants” were regular visitors to Colombo’s new Access Lanka Building, owned by relatives of Sri Lanka’s top military officers. Among Israel’s security exports to Sri Lanka was state-of-the-art electronic and imagery surveillance equipment. Israeli Air Force pilots reportedly flew Sri Lankan attack aircraft against Tamil Tiger targets on the Jaffna peninsula. Israeli military personnel were also reported to have taken part in Sri Lankan military attacks on Tamil units.

Due to Israel’s military assistance to Sri Lanka, Palestinians reportedly began aiding the Tamils in the 1980s. It is also believed that Israel’s Mossad recruited agents among Sri Lanka’s large contingent of foreign workers in the Persian Gulf Arab states. There were also reports that Israelis were also providing weapons and training to Tamil guerrillas in order to maintain a “market” for Israeli arms suppliers in the civil war-wracked island nation.

On March 2, 2007, WMR reported: “WMR visited Phnom Penh, Cambodia and discovered that the Mossad and Cambodian criminal syndicate allies continue to obtain bought-back Cambodian weapons from Cambodian government warehouses and are selling them to guerrilla groups throughout Asia, including Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tigers, anti-Laotian Hmongs, the small anti-communist Free Vietnam Movement, and Burmese tribal guerrilla groups.

WMR photographed a number of Zim shipping containers portside along the Mekong River in Phnom Penh. From this and other port facilities, including the port of Sihanoukville, bought-back Cambodian weapons, some originally provided to the Khmer Rouge by [Israeli tycoon Shaul] Eisenberg and the Chinese, are making their way to insurgent groups around Asia, possibly including Iraqi guerrillas battling U.S. forces in Iraq.”

Tamil guerrillas have claimed to have destroyed an Israeli-made Sri Lankan fast naval attack craft, perhaps reminiscent of Hezbollah’s destruction of the INS Hanit, a Saar-V class missile corvette, which was deployed off the Lebanese coast during the 2006 Israeli attack on Lebanon, with a C-802 Iranian-made Noor missile.

Although Sri Lanka suspended diplomatic ties with Israel in 1970 over the failure of the Israelis to withdraw from illegally occupied Palestinian territory, however, operating an Interests Section within the U.S. embassy in Colombo, Israeli-Sri Lankan ties began to grow closer in the mid-1980s.

Israel provided Sri Lanka with military advisers and established a special commando unit for the Sri Lankan police.

In 1990, Sri Lankan President Ranasinghe Premadasa ordered the Israeli Interests Section at the U.S. embassy to close its doors and two Israeli diplomats in Colombo were ordered to leave. Premadasa was said to have come under pressure from Muslim ministers in his government. In 1990, Premadasa also ordered a government investigation of charges that Mossad was training both Sri Lankan and Tamil guerrilla forces.

On September 25, 1991, Reuters reported from Colombo: “Sri Lankan President Ranasinghe Premadasa, fighting against a campaign to have him impeached, yesterday accused the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad of plotting against him because he closed the Israeli interests section in the U.S. embassy. He spoke at the opening session of parliament.”

On May 1, 1993, Premadasa was assassinated in Colombo during May Day festivities by a suicide bomber said to be a Tamil guerrilla. Twenty-three other people were killed in the blast.

On May 28, 1993, Abdul Hameed Mohammed Azwer, Sri Lankan minister of state for Muslim affairs, said in Jeddah, “Israel was enraged by when they were expelled from Sri Lanka by Premadasa and I suspect the Mossad was behind the dastardly murder of this respected leader.”

Those behind Premadasa’s assassination remains an Asian “cold case.” On September 23, 1997, Attorney General Sarath Silva released 18 Tamil suspects in the assassination of the president, citing lack of evidence. Silva declared the case would be officially deemed as “unsolved.”

During a March 2009 trip to Israel by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, talks were held with Israel’s leading arms suppliers on increased military aid by the Israelis to Sri Lanka.

Israel continues to supply Sri Lanka with arms and military training even after the United States and Britain cut off military supplies to Sri Lanka over the government’s human rights violations.

"The "Tent People" have adopted a system that sanctifies listening and respect."

Just last week, when a tent city suddenly snowballed the length of Israel's most prestigious boulevard in protest of the lack of affordable housing, Likud lawmaker Ofir Akunis, a former spokesman and adviser for Benjamin Netanyahu, took to state radio to elucidate a government response.

"Part of the protest going on at the moment on Rothschild Boulevard is being driven by a gang of anarchists," the Likud member said, claiming the protesters came from "the adjacent Ahad Ha'am Street, where, as you know, the main branch of the Communist Party is located."

It took tens of thousands of people filling Tel Aviv's streets Saturday night, people from all over Israel, from all walks of life, from across the political spectrum, for the government to see their anarchists for what they really are - the middle class - and to realize just how revolutionary all of this is.

This revolution is ostensibly about affordable housing. However, it is about much, much more than that. It’s about whether people can actually live in a place like this.

Finally Israel Erupts in Protest, Tens of Thousands Chant "Revolution"

Approximately 30,000 protesters marched in Tel Aviv last night, with social justice activists blocking central streets and chants of "Mubarak. Assad. Netanyahu" filling the air.

The protests are part of a larger movement that began as opposition to rising housing prices, and indeed is still centered around that issue, but has spread to other social justice and progressive causes.

The protests have moved from rent prices to a host of social justice issues: women's rights, union rights and education reform, among other things, with general chants of "revolution" heard on the streets last night.

Haaretz reports: On their way, the protesters passed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence and tried to block a nearby street while calling on Netanyahu to resign. They were consequently scattered by police forces and continued marching to the Knesset.

Kurds protest against Iranian invasion

26 July 2011, HEWLER, South Kurdistan, -- Hundreds of protestors have launched a demonstration in front of Iran’s Consulate in Hewler on Tuesday, condemning the continued Iranian bombardment of the border villages in South Kurdistan, criticizing the Iraqi government’s silence towards violations against human rights.

About 400 civil activists have demonstrated in front of the Iranian Consulate in Hewler, demanding an immediate stop to the Iranian bombardment of Kurdistan’s border areas. They demand that the Federal government in Baghdad interfere to put an end to such violations.

An activist Surour Mohammed said that the demonstrators have also “criticized the silence of Baghdad's government up until now, and its failure to announce any official position towards the Iranian bombardment.”"The aggressive act is a violation of human rights, international resolutions and an undermining of Iraq’s sovereignty,” Surour noted

Britain submits protest note to UN, General Consul

7/25/2011, Aswat Aliraq/Voices of Iraq : The British General Consul in Arbil reported that Britain submitted a note of protest to the United Nations on the continued Iranian bombardment of Kurdistan borders, which led to the killing and wounding many as well as the immigration of greater number of villagers.

In a press conference today, he added "we are against the Iranian bombardment for the Kurdish region's borders." "We have submitted a protest to the United Nations. We, as the British government, say that the behavior of the Iranian government is sabotage because it obliged the citizens to leave their villages," he added.

25 July 2011, Iranian bombardment killed three Kurdish civilians and wounded three others in Qalashin, 20 km east of Diyala. According to local sources Iranian army bombarded parts of Xinere and Xakurke regions near the Iran-Iraq border. During the bombardmend three civilians was killed in Merga Mira highlands and three others were wounded. There is no information about the identities of the casualities. On 16 July four Kurdish civilians, among them a woman, were seriously wounded in Zele, 15 km northeast of Qaladiza.

ICRC: At least 800 displaced after Iranian attacks

25 July 2011, The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said at least 800 Kurds were displaced in result of the recent Iranian operation against Kurdish guerillas. "ICRC has provided humanitarian assistance to over 800 internally displaced people in northern Iraq, all of whom have been driven from their homes by the recent shelling in the mountains of Qandil," along the border, the ICRC said in a statement on Monday.

"Having left behind all their belongings, the majority of these people are now living under makeshift shelters, tents, or sharing crowded houses with relatives and friends, while a few families could afford renting very basic accommodation," it said.

Meanwhile, the Geneva-based International Organisation for Migration said Sunday it was involved in relief efforts in the area, providing basic needs such as beds, plastic furniture and water purification kits. "Ongoing fighting between Iranian military forces and Iraqi Kurdish separatists has led to the displacement of hundreds of families," the IOM's Iraq mission said.

"The families had been forced to abandon their homes and move to a camp several miles (kilometres) away after numerous artillery strikes on the village. One villager was reported wounded by the strikes, which damaged several homes and the local school," it said in a statement.

Iran: Sharp escalation in the use of capital punishment

21 July 2011, IRAN, -- Seven people who had been held in the detentions of Quchan, Jiroft, and Rafsanjan have been executed. 3 people held in Quchan prison were executed during dawn times on Wednesday 20th July, Khuzestan Province Judiciary press reported. According to ISNA two people in Jiroft Prison and two others in Rafsanjan were executed. The hanging of these 7 increases the toll execution to 317 people in Iran for the 2011.

The news are difficult to get. They came out days after the execution have been carried out. At times there are no names attached to the people who have been hanged in Iran. News come through of three more people executed in Kirmasan. And four people have been hanged in Qom prison a few days ago.

Mohammad Reza Mir-Heydari, the head of the security forces in Qom said in a press conference that the four people, who had been convicted of smuggling drugs have been executed in Qom prison during the last two weeks.

The main theme of the press conference was about the arrest of more than 200 people, including 32 drug dealers, 79 “dangerous drug addicts”, and 137 drug users. Mir-Heydari described the four executions as “marginal”.

Iran has executed an average of almost two people a day in the first six months of this year, according to local and international human rights groups.

Human rights groups that have been carefully monitoring the rate of executions in Iran said the authorities had launched a fresh campaign of secret and mass hangings of prisoners in the provinces.

According to Amnesty International, Iran has acknowledged the execution of 190 people from the beginning of 2011 until the end of June but at least 130 others have also been reported to have been executed.

Iran Human Rights (IHR), an independent NGO based in Norway, told the Guardian it had recorded 390 executions since January. But the number is clearly higher.

The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran (ICHRI), a US-based non-government organisation, said its records showed 320 executions – a combination of those announced by the regime and those that have taken place in secret.

Violent clashes in Qandil

While clashes continue with repulsed Iranian soldiers, at least five soldiers were killed in Iran, according to the first reports received. According to information received from PJAK sources, the Iranian army carried out an attack at round 4:00 a.m. on Casus Hill, controlled by guerillas at the boundary line. Iranian soldiers were reportedly repulsed with the resistance of Eastern Kurdistan Forces (HRK) of PJAK.

Reports also inform about the ongoing intense artillery shootings of the Iranian regime on the villages of Qandil. Eight members of Revolutionary Guards were killed and six were injured in the clash on Monday evening between HRK and Iranian revolutionary guards in Berdenaze region.

According to HRK, more than 250 soldiers were killed since the beginning of the attack, including three generals and eight senior commanders. In the meantime, attacks of the Iranian army continue uninterrupted in Qandil, Xinere and Xakurke villages.

'My brother was killed for being a Kurd'

Seyfettin Bal, who was arrested on December 9, 2010 following racist attacks, allegedly committed suicide in his barrack at Sincan F Type Prison. He was most probably to be discharged from prison his next hearing on July 27.

Noting that Seyfettin didn't have any reasons for a suicide, brother Faysal Bal said the followings; "My brother wanted to have an education but he was prevented at the university and arrested for being a Kurdish citizen.
Only one day before his death, he called us and asked my wife to take our children to his visit as he had missed them a lot. We are not convinced with the Forensic Report and we want a detailed autopsy report."

Mentioning the letter claimed to be written by Seyfettin before his suicide, Bal said; "The writing on the letter in no way belongs to my brother as I know his hand-writing. Besides, my brother was a religious boy and he was beware of God, which alone is a reason why he wouldn't kill himself. We will not accept the suicide letter. "

"The murder of a Kurd isn't a big matter in consideration of the recent political process. We will follow hard after the case and we will reeal the truth trying all the ways possible. In addition, the suicide doesn't seem possible for a detainee who would most probably be discharged from prison after his next hearing on July 27. "

"The AKP government will not attach importance to the murder of a Kurd while trying to destroy the people different from itself. They shall not talk about brotherhood while killing a Kurdish student."

Stating that the cases they hear in the recent period replace the applications in the period of September 12 military coup, lawyer Sinem Çoşkun pointed out that a large number of university students are dismissed from universities without any concrete specifications. Çoşkun said; "The files of the students at Dumlupınar University are a file of lynching. Seyfettin Bal and many other young people were arrested owing to this file. Besides, even if Seyfettin Bal killed himself, we need to question and see the reasons pushing him to suicide.

Seyfettin wasn't allowed to study at university and further, he was arrested. We need to know and see the system and torture that drove him to suicide, if true as asserted.

The lynch attempt on 11 students, who were beaten and hospitalized by gendarmeries at the court for demanding to give their statements in Kurdish, their mother-tongue. All these cases are related with each other. First of all, we have to see this fact.

Attack on Kurdish students at Kütahya Dumlupınar University led to arrest of the attacked students. Crimes against the right to life, freedom of expression, deaths in prisons, in police custody, in military barracks, attacked, hospitalized and jailed

23.07.2011 BİNGÖL (DİHA) – The Human Rights Association (İHD) Bingöl Branch issued a report on human rights violations in the last six months in Bingöl. In the first six months of 2011, there have been 271 human rights violations; last year during the same period, there were 196. This is an increase of 38 percent.

There have been 13 violations of the right to life that resulted in deaths this year. Of these, four were due to clashes, two were non-political murders, six were suicides and one was a suspicious death of a soldier. There were ten violations of the right to life that resulted in injuries and one attempted suicide.

In the previous year, there were 21 violations of personal freedom and security, whereas there have been 129 so far this year. Last year, the İHD Bingöl Branch received only one application for assistance in a case of human rights violations in prisons while this year they have received 104.

Suspicious death in Sincan prison

21.07.2011 ANKARA (DİHA) – Seyfettin Bal, who was officially arrested on December 9, 2010 following racist attack on Kurdish students at Kütahya Dumlupınar University, allegedly committed suicide in his barrack at Sincan F Type Prison. He was most probably to be discharged from prison his next hearing on July 27.

On the contrary of the prison administration’s allegation, prisoner Bal’s sister-in-law, who is the latest visitor of him, stated that he was in a good mood and asked her to bring his nephews and nieces next visit. Bal Family also accused the administration for not informing them accurately. Deceased Bal’s other sister Perihan Ataman expressed her suspicious, saying; “He told me that, ‘they will kill me, save me from here.’

Yesterday, 11 students, were beaten and hospitalized by gendarmeries at the court and when they were transferred to the prison in the prison vehicle they were maltreated.

22 children died in the region within six months

23.07.2011 (DİHA) - The "Children Report" issued by the Human Rights Association (İHD) for the region of eastern and south-eastern Anatolia covering the first six months of 2011 revealed that 14 children and juveniles were killed by the police or the military and one child was injured.

15 children were wounded because of mines or undefined explosives, three children died. Two children were injured along the border and three were killed. The death of two further children left doubts about the reason for their death.

485 children were taken into police custody, 139 children were arrested.

18 children committed suicide, three children attempted to do so. One child was exposed to domestic violence. Five children died as the result of violence, abuse and rape; eight children experienced abuse, eight children were raped.

17 of the families that participated in the study were forced to leave their villages in the 1990s and hence migrated to the centre of Diyarbakır. 12 families lost a first degree relative in armed conflicts between the army and the PKK. 18 families have at least one or more relatives who were/are still imprisoned mainly for political reasons.

A part of the surveyed families make a living as working or retired civil servants or working or retired laborers. Another part of the families have an income from temporary work such as scrap-iron business, construction or the service sector.

12 families are living in a rented flat, four families live in a house provided by another family member and 14 families own their homes. Members of 11 surveyed families suffer from serious health problems (cancer, bullet injury, hepatitis, bronchitis, asthma etc.) caused by bad conditions in prison and police custody.

Points of attention

* The demonstrations where children and juveniles play the main role must be seen under the aspect of their political identity and should be interpreted as a way to open up particular areas where the children and juveniles can express themselves.

* A part of the children that left the region after having finished secondary education return to their province due to adaptive difficulty and discrimination. Some continue their education and others abandon school.

* Schools in the region have an insufficient infra structure. Children attend overcrowded classes. Discriminative policies within the education system create the risk of estranging the child from his/her hometown and school.

* Kurdish children have been deprived of their village, their mother language and their culture. The children suffer an obvious trauma caused by oppressive and rough treatment at primary school and by a dominant language that is taught by force. At the same time, the child is being exposed to a number of political, economic and social risks in the city.

* In Kurdish-majority provinces, 10,000 school-aged children work in seasonal jobs instead of going to school.

* The child's identity is being used as a yardstick in processes like his/her prosecution, police custody or imprisonment.

The report was prepared by the following institutions: Human Rights Association; Diyarbakır Bar Association; Diyarbakır Medical Chamber; Justice for Children Group (ÇİAT); Health and Social Service Workers Union (SES) Diyarbakır Branch; Education and Science Workers' Union (Eğitim-Sen) Diyarbakır Branch; Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Social Support Centre; Local Agenda-21 Youth Assembly; Sarmaşık Association for the Struggle against Poverty and Sustainable Development; Psychologists Initiative for Social Peace.

Prison Instead of School

23.07.2011 (DİHA) - The Turkish Human Rights Foundation (TİHV) and a number of other non-governmental organizations active in Diyabakır prepared a report on children and their families who were imprisoned on the basis of the Anti-Terror Law (TMK) between 2006 and 2010 and released later on due to according legal amendments. The NGOs studied the situation of the children in the Kurdish-majority city in south-eastern Turkey for a whole year, reports bianet.

According to the report, more than 4,000 children aged between 12 and 18 were taken into police custody and/or were kept in prison for the duration of between two months and four years. One in three children abandoned education.

Here are some of the issued highlighted by the report:

* 12 out of 30 children the NGOs established contact with after their release from prison abandoned school.

* The report also raised the question of how many children and juveniles would turn to the armed outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) after their experiences in custody and prison.

* Mustafa Malçok burned himself on 15 February.

* Some children are constantly being kept under observation by the police on their way to school, in the neighborhood and on the street. After some time, this develops into harassment like saying "We will arrest you again" and into oppression such as saying "What are you doing on the street? Don't wander around or we will take you into custody".

* The families are anxious; they confine their children at home, send them to the military or let them do heavy jobs. The social life of these children is restricted.

* The judiciary became inclined to not to arrest but release the children subsequent to the legal amendments. However, the police continued to take children and juveniles who were walking on the street into custody.

Ill-treatment in police custody and also at the moment the young persons are caught by the police has worsened.

Children must be fully excluded from TMK

The report is stating that children should be fully excluded from the scope of the TMK. Articles 220/6 (committing a crime on behalf of an organization without being a member of the organization) and 220/7 (knowing and willingly aiding and abetting an illegal organization) of the Turkish Criminal Law (TCK) should be lifted. Moreover, the report points to Law No.2911 that still defines "stones" as weapons.

The NGOs demand this definition to be abolished. "Molotov" cocktails should be covered by Article 174 TCK on "unauthorized possession or transfer of hazardous substances." Mass organizations, local governments and political parties have to define serious policies regarding children. Children and juveniles should have their own areas where they can express themselves. The media has to put works and studies related to children on the agenda, the NGOs proposed.

Turkish police behind ultra-nationalists, attacks, vandalism and violations of personal freedom and security

Kurdish construction workers have to leave Erzurum due to racist attacks

21.07.2011, DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) – Approximately 200 Kurdish workers from the Collective Housing Administration (TOKİ) had to leave Erzurum yesterday because an ultra-nationalist group of around 500 people attacked the workers.

According to the workers’ allegations, police supported the attacking group. Workers injured in the attack applied to the Human Rights Organization Diyarbakır Branch for assistance.

Yesterday, the ultra-nationalist group surrounded the construction area and separated Turkish and Kurdish workers before attacking.

Worker İhsan Barut explains the incident; “They attacked us a couple days ago. They burned our tents by Molotov cocktails. There was nothing we could do, but the latest attack was really horrible. Around 500 people came to our worksite shouting slogans such as, ‘Martyrs never die and Turkey cannot be divided,’ and ‘There is no way from here.’ In fact, we were only working. The racist group took us hostage from 8:30pm to 1:00am. Police did not stop them as they usually do with Kurdish demonstrations. Police did not take any of them into custody.”

Kudbettin Çaçan was another angry worker. He said, “If these police were in Diyarbakır, I believe that they would not hesitate to throw thousands of gas bombs at those people.

When it comes to ultra-nationalists, police do nothing but help them. If there is no one to stop this kind of racist attacks, we will do same thing against Turks in our region. We are under pressure in our homeland and here as well. How long this will continue? We are not going to be trampled, not any more.”

The workers were evacuated under the protection of the gendarmerie and the police, while the racist group remains in the construction area.

Racist attacks in Istanbul continue, while Diyarbakır residents to march against attacks

23.07.2011, İSTANBUL (DİHA) – In Istanbul’s Zeytinburnu district, racist attacks against Kurds continue while the authorities continue to remain silent on the subject. Despite all the calls, appropriate security measures were not taken in the district and Kurdish businesses were vandalized.

In the Telsiz Neighborhood two houses and two textile workshops were vandalized. In the Çırpıcı Neighborhood, one house, one grocery and one textile workshop were vandalized.

During a series of house raids that lasted through the night, police took 11 Kurdish people into custody. Those who were detained last night include Fatih Akkurt, Hasan Doğan, Mehmet Sadık Dursun, Takettin Alptekin, Medeni Akgül, Ümran Akgün, Ahmet Ecer, Ahmet Buldur, Hikmet Kurtok, Abdulkadir Artan and Şerif Dayan. They are being held at the Vatan Avenue Istanbul Police Headquarters.

Fehim Sarı, who was taken into custody two days ago, is still being detained. Locals alleged that police have a list of 21 people to be detained, so detentions will rise.

In addition, the Amed City Council has called on all Diyarbakır citizens to participate in the march to be staged tomorrow in Bağlar district to protest the attacks against Kurds and their institutions.

Making a written statement about the march, the council drew attention to the racist attacks on Kurdish people and their establishments that target the property of the Kurdish people.

Remarking that people shouldn’t remain silent about these attacks, the statement said; “On this basis, we are calling on all our people to join the march in the Fifth of April Neighborhood tomorrow in order to protect their property and to introduce a democratic reaction against these attacks. The march will start from the Fifth of April Free Citizen Association building at 6:00pm and end with a press statement in front of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Diyarbakır district building.

16.07.2011, MERSİN (DİHA) – Police threatened one of the executives of the Human Rights Association (İHD) Mersin Branch, Senai Sayın, with death, alleged Sayın.

According to Sayın’s allegations, undercover police kept him from distributing invitations for the 25th anniversary of the İHD. Then they asked questions and insulted him. Sayın tried to defend himself by saying that the İHD is a legal organization and he is the one of managers of Mersin Branch.

Then police shouted at Sayın saying, “You will die, we will finish all of you, and also the Akdeniz municipality.”

After holding Sayın for two hours in the Güneykent Police Station, police released him without any official process.

It´s all linked..

Well, Yeah..Maybe it would really be about time for the US to review its relationship and decades of "war against terrorism" with Turkey as well then.

23 July 2011, General Odierno: "Iranian regime has stepped-up its efforts to force U.S. out of Iraq."

NCRI - General Ray Odierno, who is nominated to be the next Army chief, stressed the Iranian regime’s efforts for arming the militia in Iraq and said that in light of the stepped-up Iranian efforts for pressuring the U.S. to abandon Iraq, the U.S. should provide whatever assistance that Iraq thinks it needs beyond 2011,the Associate Press reported on July 21.

Odierno said: "It is clear that Iran is attempting to influence this decision with the actions they've taken, specifically over the last several months, in continuing to support, fund, train, equip surrogates in southern Iraq and central Iraq, specifically going after the remnants of our U.S. presence inside of Iraq," AP reported.

At the same time US officers claims Iranian Revolutionary guards trained militias attacks US troops in Iraq

U.S. Department of Treasury put PJAK on its list of “specially designated” terrorist organizations in February 2009, just as the Obama administration began quiet negotiations with the Iranian regime.

A Treasury Department internal memo, released under the Freedom of Information Act to PJAK’s U.S. attorney, Morton Sklar, claimed the group is “controlled” by the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), but appeared to rely mainly on Turkish and Iranian government media reports to draw that conclusion.

A Freedom of Information Act request by the Foundation for Democracy in Iran to the Department of Justice found that the Justice Department was not consulted in designating PJAK as a terrorist organization, as required by U.S. law, giving weight to PJAK’s allegation that the designation was politically motivated as a sop to the Iranian regime.

The move by Treasury was a boon to the Iranian regime, since it effectively discouraged other Iranian opposition groups from cooperating with PJAK when the June 2009 protests broke out in Iran and has isolated PJAK.

PJAK sources claim that high-ranking Turkish officers and special forces teams are playing an active role in the Iranian army thrust into Iraq. Turkey and Iran have established a joint operational base to attack the Kurds in Urimyeh, in northwestern Iran, where Turkish experts have been training their Iranian counterparts.

PJAK seized recently manufactured U.S. weapons from Iranian-backed fighters in clashes two years ago. The IRGC deployed heavy weaponry in their assault including tanks, katyusha rocket launchers, artillery, mortars, and U.S.-built Huey Cobra attack helicopters against Kurds.

Iran has also been using aggressive intelligence operations, most notably by hiring Iranian Kurdish hit squads to commit atrocities against civilians in PJAK’s name.

“We track these attacks, but there are so many,” said Amir Karimi, a senior PJAK leader I met in the Qandil mountains in February. “Their main goal is to discredit PJAK, and to frighten the Kurds by operating in both Iran and Iraq. They are directly under the control of the IRGC intelligence.”

Over the past two years, these groups have killed 368 people in Iran and Iraq, dressed them in PJAK guerilla uniforms, then sold them to the IRGC for “kill fees” ranging up to $45,000 apiece.

“Their scheme fell apart when they killed the son of the Friday prayer leader in Mariwan,” Rahman Haj Ahmadi told me. “He demanded an investigation when his son’s body turned up dressed as a PJAK fighter. He said that was impossible, and demanded that the intelligence ministry conduct an investigation.”

Two new mass graves discovered in Bitlis

24 July 2011, Twenty one guerrillas said to be buried in two mass graves in Bitlis
Two new mass graves have been discovered in Bitlis. It was disclosed that 21 guerillas were buried in two mass graves found in Orans (Anadere) village of Tatvan district and Mirmend village of Hizan district.

The news of two mass graves came shortly after the discovery of a mass grave where 120 guerillas were buried in Hizan dumpsite between the years 1991-1998. Yaka-Der employee Alaattin Altinbas gave information to ANF about the mass graves they discovered during their investigations in Bitlis.

Altinbas told that 18 guerillas, who lost their lives in a clash in 1996, were buried in mass in Çîlkani hamlet of Orans village, while three guerillas, who lost their lives in an ambush by village-guards in 1995, were found buried in Avarbêrxan countryside of Mirmend village. Altinbas said; "The ambush was organized by village-guard head Mehmet Ali Çelebi who masqueraded as a militia. The guerillas were ambushed by Çelebi who afterwards with other village-guards buried them at the place of the ambush."

Remarking that the number of mass graves in Hizan region is much higher than four, discovered so far, Altinbas called on prosecutors to take action immediately for the urgently opening of mass graves under circumstances in compliance with European standards.

CEYLAN: "THE STATE SHOULD OPEN ITS ARCHIVES"

On the other hand, IHD Bitlis Representative Hasan Ceylan stated that the number of applications to IHD (Human Rights Association) has increased since the excavations in Mutki. Ceylan demanded the application of the people who have knowledge of mass graves.

Pointing out that the state, politics and public opinion don't lay enough weight on the mass graves in Mutki, Ceylan made the following statements to ANF; "While the Prime Minister is sermonizing in Sarajevo about humanity, the Turkish government doesn't take even one small step about the mass graves in the country where massively buried bodies are found at every step."

"Despite the existence of tens of various boards such as Parliament's Human Rights Commission and Human Rights Advisory Board of the Prime Ministry, the government hasn't displayed any will in Mutki. The issue is invoked on the court. The society can't take courage without a strong political will behind the subject. The mission is undertaken by human rights organizations and civil society organizations while the government is supposed to examine the case and continue the research into the the issue. The event of the mass graves also has official records, the state should bring its archives into open."

International conference on mass graves

24 July 2011, International speakers will attend the conference organized on Monday and Tuesday by relatives of disappeared people. Monday and Tuesday Diyarbakir will host a conference about mass graves. Almost every day for months a new mass grave is discovered.

In Dersim a mother and son are on hunger strike for over forty days: they asked for the mass grave where they believed their son and brother is buried together with others to be opened. But they can't get permission to excavate the grave. And they have decided to sit in the main square of Dersim fasting until their right to have their beloved body back.

The conference in Diyarbakir will be important because of the issues it will address. Organized by the Association of the family and friends of the disappeared (YAKAY-DER) and by the Mesopotamia association of the family and friends of the disappeared (MEYA-DER), the conference is called "The reality of mass graves in Turkey". The conference will take place in the Cegerxwin Culture and Art Centre and will be attended by international association of relatives of the disappeared around the world.

Israel and its Washington paymaster/partner, masters of mass murder crimes

On July 19, Voice of Russia broadcasting headlined, "Norway to support Palestinians - Norwegian FM," saying: "Norway will support Palestinians who are set to press for recognition of the independence of their state by the United Nations, says the Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store."

In January, Store said: "Norway will be among the first European states to recognize an independent Palestine when there is an act as an international team" to do it.

He also said: "We are working to develop the economy of Palestine," and believe the political process toward peace can be successful."

Heading a committee in charge of raising international aid for Palestine, he added that Norway is committed to rallying donor help to build Palestinian institutions.

His July comment followed talks with Palestinian National Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas, adding he believes independence is no hindrance to Middle East peace.

Earlier in July, Norway's Dagbladet newspaper quoted Labour Party-affiliated Workers Youth League (AUF) leader Eskil Pedersen saying:

The "time has come for more drastic measures against Israel, and (he) wants the Foreign Minister to impose an economic boycott against the country," adding:

"The peace process goes nowhere, and though the whole world expects Israel to comply, they do not. We in the Labour Youth will have a unilateral economic embargo of Israel from the Norwegian side."

Dagbladet said:

"The AUF has long been a supporter of an international boycott of Israel, (and) the decision at the last congress demands that Norway impose a unilateral economic embargo....and it must be stricter than before."

Last August 24, Reuters and Haaretz writer Shuki Sadeh headlined, "Norway government-run pension fund drops Africa Israel group shares," saying:

"Norway's 450 billion euro oil-riches fund has excluded two Israeli firms involved in developing settlements, as well as a Malaysian forestry firm, on ethical grounds, Norway's finance ministry said on Monday."

Excluded are Africa Israel Investments and its engineering subsidiary Danya Cebus. Both are controlled by Lev Leviev, billionaire Israeli businessman, involved among other interests in constructing Israeli settlements.

Norway's central bank-managed fund follows ethical guidelines, excluding investments in companies producing nuclear weapons, cluster munitions, environmentally harmful products, building illegal settlements, or abusing their workers.

The fund specifically said Leviev's Danya Cebus subsidiary engages in settlement construction in East Jerusalem's Har Homa neighborhood, as well as West Bank Ma'ale Adumim and Modi'in Illit settlements.

The fund said its "Council of Ethics emphasizes that construction of settlements in occupied areas is a violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War."

Finance Minister Sigbjoern Johnsen added:

"Several United Nations Security Council resolutions and an International Court of Justice advisory opinion have concluded that the construction of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory is prohibited under this Convention."

Africa Israel replied, saying neither it or its subsidiaries engaged in West Bank settlement construction for some time, whether or not true. At the same time, it left unmentioned its East Jerusalem projects, where Israel steals Palestinian land for settlement development.

In 2009, Norway's pension fund divested in Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense electronics firm, because of its involvement in building Israel's illegal Separation Wall.

On March 29, 2011, EuropeNews headlined, "Norway: Socialist Left Party to Vote on Motion Calling for Bombing Israel if it Acts against Hamas in Gaza," saying:

Former Finance Minister, now Education Minister Kristin Halvorsen's Socialist Left Party (SV), (part of Norway's three party ruling coalition with the Centre Party and the Labour Party) supports a measure supporting military action against Israel if it attacks Hamas. Part of its statement said:

"The credibility of the world community in its confrontation with (Gaddafi) is undermined when there is no reaction against other states in the region (that) commit injustices against (their) civil population. The greater world community must therefore also react against Israeli air attacks on the Gaza strip."

The proposal shows Norwegian concern for Palestinian rights. The previous day Breivik targeted Labour Party children on Utoeya island, they held a pro-Palestinian rally.

Foreign Minister Store met with them, and while there, children told him Norway must recognize Palestine. In response, he said: "The Palestinians must have their own state. The occupation must end. The wall must be demolished, and it must happen now."

Keep the pressure on Israel and its Washington paymaster/partner, masters of mass murder crimes.
