Michael Knapp:The State Terror of the Nineties is back again
The Turkish government and the Turkish Armed Forces are escalating the war against the Kurdish people and its liberation movement. In the Nineties nearly 4000 villages were burned by security forces, more than 17,000 people were killed by Turkish death squads and the population of the Kurdish region had been terrorized on a huge scale by military, police and the secret service. These measures of terror have returned once again in 2010.
Last week two villages were burned by soldiers, and the biggest part of the extra-judicial killings whose responsibility lay with the Special Forces (özeltim) police have been activated again and are enforcing repression in the Kurdish regions. Villagers are killed by the military, their fields burned; the bodies of deceased Kurdish guerillas are mutilated again.
UNITS KNOWN FOR TORTURE AND KILLINGS ARE REACTIVATED
By a decision of the Turkish National Security Council (MGK) the majority of the extra-judicial killings responsible Police Special Forces (özeltim), are sent again to the Kurdish regions and their numbers are enlarged. It has been declared that these forces are at the moment active in 48 communities and that they will enforce their activity in "counterterrorism". It is especially in rural areas where the units will be placed. These units are infamous for their massive human rights violations against the civil population under cover of the excuse of fighting the PKK. Many former members of these units suffer serious psychological problems and had been incapable of integrating themselves back in civil society. There is also a very high suicide rate among these veterans, some have killed themselves, but only a very few were prosecutd because of their human rights violations.
Last week members of these special forces were the reason for sparking riots, when they threatening a coffee shop owner who didn´t want to open his shop on a festival day; they said that they woul kill them if he didn´t serve them. Also in Gever (Yüksekova) these units are terrorising the population, they are masked as they walk through the streets and threaten the population. For example, they broke the window of a car and attacked the owner during one incident.
BODIES OF DECEASED GUERILLAS HAVE BEEN MISTREATEN AND MUTILATED
It was common practice in the nineties that soldiers mutilated the bodies of deceased guerrillas and dragged them by their tanks through villages to humiliate the people as part of psychological warfare. Now, with the new escalation of war these measures seem to be starting again. The bodies of two guerrillas, who died in battle on 25 June10 in Gümüşhane and Silvan, were obviously mutilated cruelly by Turkish soldiers. The heads of both guerrillas had been smashed and chopped apart. On the body of Bayram Dün one could find the signs of shots and it wasn´t possible to recognize his face. It seems that the soldiers had jumped on the head of the body to smash it. The family members and friends who saw the bodies were in a state of shock, some even fainted. Some called for revenge; some said, "We will go to the mountains. We will make you pay for this." On the body of Hamit Ulaş (Sendoz Amed), there were signs of similar cruelty. It is alleged that he was captured alive and then executed in cold blood. The body of Ulaş doesn´t show injuries, while there are leads of shots in the neck and the face. His head had been mutilated to an extent that it was impossible to identify his face.
The body of Necati Güneş, a guerrilla who is alleged to have been killed in the attack on a military outpost in Şemdinli is still missing. There are reports that a heavily injured person had been brought to the hospital and shortly afterwards taken away by the military.
TWO VILLAGES IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD OF HASANKEYF HAVE BEEN BURNED DOWN BY TURKISH SOLDIERS
The Turkish military burned down two villages in the region of Batman near Hasankeyf in the morning of the 25 June. The villages Bizinka (Keçeli) and Xerbekar (Palamutlu) and several hundred hectares of fields and fruit plantations were totally destroyed. The two villages were "evacuated" for "security reasons" and the military stopped the villagers from extinguishing the fire. These villages have been burned down four times after 1993 by the Turkish military. As a result of these attacks there is no infrastructure such as water or electricity; therefore the villagers just stay there during summer months to carry out their agricultural work. Human rights activists who saw the burning villages say they are "shocked" about this action. They said: "Where do they take courage from to do this? By what right do they do this? There couldn´t be any rational or human reason for doing this!"
In Van the military bombarded a Kurdish village in retaliation for a guerrilla attack. The population of this village are village guards who usually take part in operations with the military. The houses and gardens of the village were heavily damaged by the shelling.
SOLDIERS KILL ELDERLY WOMAN
After a guerrilla attack in Karakoçan, near Elazığ on the 25 June soldiers opened fire on a family and killed a 60 years old woman and injured her family gravely. One oft he injured is a 5 year old girl. The BDP Chairman of Karliova declared:" The family wasn´t in the fighting. They passed by and the shooting started. (…) After the battle the soldiers fired for a while on the village and its surroundings. A huge amount of houses were damaged and windows were broken."
SOLDIERS SHOOT ON BUS AND BURN FIELDS
On the 21 June, soldiers started shooting in Silvan on a small bus that was passing by. Four persons were injured. Before the attack there had been a guerrilla action against a regional military base. The attack by the military started later, after the fighting and after the soldiers had set fire to the fields of the villagers.
CURFEW ON VILLAGES
The curfews in the nineties start to come into force again as well as measure of repression are stepped up. In some villages in the region of Tatvan, Bitlis and Hizan the village headmen were forced by the military to warn the villagers under no circumstances not to leave the village without reporting to the soldiers. If they didn´t do as they had been told, they would have to face the "negative consequences." These threats were announced from the loudspeakers of the local mosques.
In the region of Bingöl the inhabitants of many villagers live in fear of the Özeltims (Special Forces). In some villages these units have taken control of the roads and record and even interrogate people when leaving the village. At night they are moving through the village and people are scared even to come out of their houses. Many farmers can´t even leave their villages for pasturing because of their fear of the special forces. People are living in mortal fear.

06.24.10, Turkey extends UNIFIL mandate. Turkish troops to remain in multinational taskforce on Israel-Lebanon border for one more year. Turkey continues taking part in the force that defends Israel's northern border. The Turkish parliament on Thursday decided to extend by one year its country's troops' participation in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). This is Turkey's fourth extension of its mandate in Lebanon since the participation of Turkish troops was first approved in September 2006.
Turkey's contribution to UNIFIL includes some 1,000 soldiers and several warships, which are meant to prevent the smuggling of arms to Hezbollah.
Last week the Turkish prime minister said, "The Turkish government's problem is with the Israeli government, not with Israeli citizens."He added, "We did not sit silent faced with (Israel's) pirate behavior and wrongdoings and we do no intend on remaining silent. We shall look for solutions within the international law."
Well...To have Turkey watching the borders and prevent the smuggling of arms to Hezbollah, at the same time Turkey cooperates with the Iranian regime with the U.S. Treasury department and administration´s help and assistance, makes every one feel so much safer..
It´s not that Kurds that exposed rockets and arms smuggling got any medals...Actually we didn´t hear much from NATO at all..about it. Instead Kurds were trained for 15 days and sent out to kill Kurds while being killed..While the Turkish leaders send their youths and children to nice schools and university´s in the U.S..
As we said: We will work to make it clear and some are going to get bashed so #¤## hard it will feel for generations to come..

And at the same time claim that Kurds which have worked very hard to reach solutions and democracy and human rights that ARE in fact responding to U.N. declarations, are. And which have been violated in the most gross ways for decades, while Turkey and it´s "allies" have a war-fare against the whole Kurdish people, journalists, children, politicians, human rights organizations, any ones promoting peace etc..etc..JUST as the Iranian regime. Kuridstan National Kongress calls upon the international community to intervene to prevent war spreading
24 June 2010, After last weekend clashes KNK draw attention to the risk of the war deepening. The KNK (Kurdistan National Kongress) executive council has released a statement to draw attention to the situation.
"The Turkish state - reads the statement - has started to deploy special units on the borders of Southern Kurdistan by helicopters. Intense military deployment is an indication of a land operation. Ten thousand soldiers are stationed on the border line. The area around the position of soldiers is being constantly bombarded by helicopters.
Intense activities are also going on at the Amediye and Bamerne military headquarters of the Turkish army which are inside the borders of Southern Kurdistan. In the meantime, assaults by military aircraft and daily bombardments continue uninterrupted."
The KNK points out that as a result of the bombardment until today, at least 4 civilian Kurdish villagers including children have been killed and 8 people have been wounded. Hundreds of families had to leave their homes. Gardens and fields where the animals of the villagers grazed have been badly damaged. Turkish and Iranian war planes are continuing to target civilian people outside their borders.
"It is clear from the security meetings of the Turkish state - adds the statement - that the state has decided to intensify the dirty war.
The Turkish state claims that it will bring peace and tranquility to the area while it does not recognise the rights and liberties of 20 million Kurds living within its borders, and annihilates anybody that resists the implementation of this policy.
While this is how it wants to be known abroad, the state is carrying out a dirty war against the Kurds within its borders. Turkish state authorities that have been meeting in security summits have decided to embark on stepping up the dirty war."
The statement calls on "the UN, EU and USA to take action against Turkey, against its military operations that mean the violation of international laws."

When we say genocidal war-fare we mean genocidal war-fare
24 June 2010, Young university student, joined the PKK, after years of presecution.
Necati Güneş had been arrested, evicted, beaten, threatened for being a Kurd. He was taken to court when he was a second year student at Ankara Gazi University; because of the pressures by police office and the district governorship, he was thrown out of his house by his landlord; he was detained and arrested accused of being a member of education union Eğitim-Sen, which he had visited as a guest.
While Prime Minister Erdoğan was saying that the ‘PKK is a subcontractor organization’ on TV, Necati Güneş was experiencing repression and detention. He joined the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) on 18 May 2009. He lost his life on 19 June 2010 during the attack carried out by the Kurdish guerrilla in Şemdinli/Hakkari, last weekend.
The experiences of PKK guerrilla Necati Güneş are indeed the best answer to those who think that PKK is a subcontractor organization and young PKK members have been fouled into joining the organization.
Born in 1986 in Van, he completed his primary, secondary and high school. Güneş moved to Ankara for his study in Map Engineering at Gazi University. Beside his study, he started to take place in activities and political discussions with his friends. As he didn't like top stay in school's dormitories, he rented a house with 3 friends in Altındağ Street. His house was raided on 5 June by Anti-Terror police.
A friend of him was arrested in the raid that was organized following Newroz (Kurdish new year celebration) and Workers May. It was then that the hard days began for student Necati. Taking the arrests of his house-mates as a pretext, Gazi University soon opened an inquiry about Necati. Güneş was put under temporary punishment. In addition, Güneş and his friends were evicted from their house after their landlord had been threatened by Police Office Anti-Terror Branch police and Altındağ Governorship.
Despite having a one year rent contract, the landlord gave the three Kurdish students one day notice to leave the house. So, the students had to pack and leave the house.
After being evicted, Necati started to stay with his friend in another house and went to Van during the school holidays. The discriminatory approach in Ankara for his being Kurd followed Necati also in Van. On a visit to Eğitim-Sen with his friends from Yüzüncü Yıl University on 25 June 2008, police made a sudden attack on the union’s Van branch. Necati was detained and arrested in the raid and charged of ‘being a member of an illegal organization.’
After spending nearly 9 months in prison, Necati went back to Ankara but Ankara police didn’t stop following him. He was regularly followed and threatened to leave Ankara. As a result of threats and pressures, Necati dropped out of the university on his third year, on 18 May 2009 and he went on joining the PKK.

In fact...When the whole Kurdish political sphere and organizations were in meetings and took a whole lot of time working for solutions and reaching end of war-fare, the U.S/ Jewish, "various Israeli leaders" Joseph Ralston, British director of weapon company etc..were lobbying for weapon sells and for having PKK on terrorist list in the E.U. and have all pushed very hard for a continuing of this genocidal war-fare and in fact contributed to INSTIGATED it and destabilized Iraq.
When the Kurdish political sphere and the whole Kurdish people were working hard to end it the Turkish government and authorities were only interested in that there were no efforts to "estrange people from military service." I.E. never any intentions for democracy or human rights to solve anything peacefully.

Actually there were never any intentions to reach end of war-fare and improve the conditions for the Kurdish AND Turkish people in any aspects from neither the Turkish government or any other lobbyists, weapon dealers, Britain, France, the U.S. Israeli leaders etc..But all are committing crimes against peace and humanity and there have been a hard work to instigate war-fare and working against democracy and solutions.
There can very well be drawn parallels to the Palestinians where there is obvious no will among "various leaders" in both the Israeli government and in the U.S. to reach unity among the Palestinians.
These are crimes against peace, destabilization and ongoing extermination of the Kurds in their land that follows EXACTLY the same system and pattern as the crimes against the Armenians.
And it has been done in cooperation with the Iranian regime and have been so ever since the U.S. supported "Iranian revolution" where leaders in the U.S. worked hard to overthrow the Shah and implemented this regime and the "U.S. guys" Turkish coup.
At the same time various U.S. and Israeli leaders speaks about the "threat from Iran" they are actually cooperating with the very same regime in crimes against the Kurds and have done so all the time. Meanwhile Japan is one of the biggest oil importer from Iran where the U.S. has had it´s military base for decades.
This are genocidal war-fares with genocidal tactics where there have been a implemented "Vietnam village genocidal guard system" where Kurds are forced into this genocidal war-fare on several fronts. And it has been going on simultaneously with the crimes against the Tamils.

Necati Güneş had been arrested, evicted, beaten, threatened for being a Kurd. He was taken to court when he was a second year student at Ankara Gazi University; because of the pressures by police office and the district governorship, he was thrown out of his house by his landlord; he was detained and arrested accused of being a member of education union Eğitim-Sen, which he had visited as a guest.
While Prime Minister Erdoğan was saying that the ‘PKK is a subcontractor organization’ on TV, Necati Güneş was experiencing repression and detention. He joined the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) on 18 May 2009. He lost his life on 19 June 2010 during the attack carried out by the Kurdish guerrilla in Şemdinli/Hakkari, last weekend.
The experiences of PKK guerrilla Necati Güneş are indeed the best answer to those who think that PKK is a subcontractor organization and young PKK members have been fouled into joining the organization.
Born in 1986 in Van, he completed his primary, secondary and high school. Güneş moved to Ankara for his study in Map Engineering at Gazi University. Beside his study, he started to take place in activities and political discussions with his friends. As he didn't like top stay in school's dormitories, he rented a house with 3 friends in Altındağ Street. His house was raided on 5 June by Anti-Terror police.
A friend of him was arrested in the raid that was organized following Newroz (Kurdish new year celebration) and Workers May. It was then that the hard days began for student Necati. Taking the arrests of his house-mates as a pretext, Gazi University soon opened an inquiry about Necati. Güneş was put under temporary punishment. In addition, Güneş and his friends were evicted from their house after their landlord had been threatened by Police Office Anti-Terror Branch police and Altındağ Governorship.
Despite having a one year rent contract, the landlord gave the three Kurdish students one day notice to leave the house. So, the students had to pack and leave the house.
After being evicted, Necati started to stay with his friend in another house and went to Van during the school holidays. The discriminatory approach in Ankara for his being Kurd followed Necati also in Van. On a visit to Eğitim-Sen with his friends from Yüzüncü Yıl University on 25 June 2008, police made a sudden attack on the union’s Van branch. Necati was detained and arrested in the raid and charged of ‘being a member of an illegal organization.’
After spending nearly 9 months in prison, Necati went back to Ankara but Ankara police didn’t stop following him. He was regularly followed and threatened to leave Ankara. As a result of threats and pressures, Necati dropped out of the university on his third year, on 18 May 2009 and he went on joining the PKK.

Mubarak: Israel shirking responsibility of Gaza Strip
06.23.2010, Egyptian leader says Israel trying to place responsibility towards Strip on Cairo, claims it is taking advantage of internal Palestinian division to continue delaying peace process. UNRWA: Israel's Gaza blockade became a blockade against the UN
Reuters - UN agency responsible for Palestinian refugees calls on Israel to fully lift the blockade on Gaza. Nothing short of the full lifting of Israel's blockade on Gaza would allow the territory to be rebuilt, the UN agency responsible for Palestinian refugees said on Monday, a day after Israel said it would ease its siege.
"We need to have the blockade fully lifted," said spokesman Christopher Gunness of UNRWA, the United Nations relief agency that looks after Palestinian refugees. He spoke to Reuters on the sidelines of a conference in Cairo. "The Israeli strategy is to make the international community talk about a bag of cement here, a project there. We need full unfettered access through all the crossings."
International donors at a conference in Egypt pledged $2.8 billion to rebuild Gaza after the war, but the blockade has hampered the inflow of building supplies. Gunness said he was not confident that the new Israeli system would resolve the difficulties UNRWA has faced determining what can get through the blockade. "The list of restricted goods is a moving target. We are never told this is banned and that is banned," he said. "Israel's blockade became a blockade against the UN."
Gunness said Israel must open the Karni cargo terminal, which is large enough to allow industrial-scale cargoes of cement, building materials and aid.

Reporting on South Kurdistan and Iraqi authorities, AFP has said that the Turkish army has crossed the border following the PKK attack in Şemdinli. These claims haven’t been confirmed by PKK nor by independent sources but the Turkish army already crossed the border several times. Since the beginning of the year, Turkish army has many times step into South Kurdistan lands and airspace with warplanes and overland artillery.Speaking to AFP, Iraq Foreign minister Hoşyar Zebari said; “Neither country must carry out unilateral actions. Unfortunately, this is not the case with Turkey.” Turkish army has carried out a land operation for the second time in the last five days. PKK sources had stated that the former cross border operation didn’t succeed and that the Turkish army had to retreat without crossing the border.Minister Zebari said that the air assaults of the Turkish army have lasted for months are “definitively a contravention of Iraq’s sovereignty, independence and the good relations between neighbor countries.”

18 May 2010, Meeting between Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the Republic, and Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil – Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic Madrid, President Sarkozy and the President of Brazil discussed the Iranian nuclear issue on the sidelines of the European Union-Latin America summit in Madrid. The arrests yesterday of ten members of the Peace and Democratic Solution Group (BDCG) go in the direction of pushing for an escalation to the conflict.
Upon hearing the news of the arrests, protest demonstrations were immediately started all over Turkey. The first hearing of 17 members of the BDCG started in early hours of Thursday morning in Diyarbakir. The BDCG members, who had come back to Turkey from Kandil and Maxmur to show their faith in peace and contribute to the peace process, were on put on trial for their speeches. Those prosecuted members of the BDCG are mostly former guerrilla. There were massive protests and support activities continuing in front of the Diyarbakir Court Building which hundreds of people waiting outside all night. Many lawyers from Diyarbakir Bar Association had also attended the trials as well as many peace activists from all over the country.

DIYARBAKIR , DIHA – First hearing of 17 members of the Peace and Democratic Solution Group (BDCG) has begun in Diyarbakir. The BDCG members, who had come back to Turkey from Quandil and Maxmur to show their faith to peace and contribute the peace process, are being on trail for their speeches. Those prosecuted members of BDCG are mostly former guerilla. There are massive protests and support activities continuing in front of Diyarbakir Court Building in where was witnessed a waiting of hundreds of people all night.
The trials have been in separate High Criminal Court. Supporters of BDCG members have made protest field in every corner of Diyarbakir for a week as well as today. Many lawyers from Diyarbakir Bar Association have also attended the trials.
Many peace activists from all over Turkey have also been to Diyarbakir to support and be witness of the historical hearing. The other members of BDCG are also ready to support their friends. The Peace Watch had been held by Peace Assembly of Turkey (TBM) and a tent erected by the peace watchers in Kosuyolu Park had decorated by the banners written on “The peace is being trailed, be witness” and “We are on duty as Peace Watchers." The watchers had march to the Court Building in Diyarbakir just before hearing of TBM members begins.

Students and people clashed with intelligence and plainclothes agents. 9 students were injured and another 18 arrested. June 8: Five people were executed early today reported the Iranian government’s newspaper Iran. This is only one day after execution of 13 people in the Ghezel Hesar prison of tehran. According to the report four of those executed today were convicted of kidnapping and rape while the fifth person was convicted of drug trafficking. Only one man was identified by name. He was Masoud (33 years old) convicted of drug trafficking. Two of the others were identified as "a 33 years old man" and "a 21 years old boy" both convicted of kidnapping and sexual abuse. The other two who were executed today were not identified by name or age, and were convicted of rape.
In the past three days at least 19 people have been executed in Iran. It is believed that the number of the executions will increase as we get closer to the first anniversary of the post-electoral uprisings on June 12. Iran Human Rights has urged UN and all the countries with economic and diplomatic ties with Iran to do whatever they can to stop the executions in Iran.
On Sunday, Iran Human Rights reported that 26 people had been transferred to the quarantine section of Ghezel Hesar prison prior to execution. There are no further news about the fate of the others who were transferred to the quarantine section. The fact that the Iranian official have not broadcasted the news gives us reason to believe that the real number of the executions are much higher than what the human rights sources report.
Iran Human Rights has urged the UN and all the countries with diplomatic and economic ties with Iran to do whatever they can to stop the execution wave in Iran.
According to the official site of Judiciary in Isfahan a man identified as Reza A (26) was hanged in the prison of Isfahan on Sunday morning June 6. He was convicted of keeping 172 grams of crack.
The human rights lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei had confirmed yesterday’s hangings in Tehran on his personal web site. They were all allegedly convicted of drug trafficking.

According to the official site of the Iranian judiciary in Isfahan, a 25 year old man identified as Saeed was hanged in the prison of Isfahan today. He was convicted of rape according to the report. The official site of the Iranian judiciary in Yazd (also central Iran) reported that four people were hanged in the prison of this city Wednesday May 25.
May 31: Two people were hanged in the prison of Shirvan (north Khorasan province northeastern Iran) reported the state run Iranian news agency ISCA news today. No inofrmation was revealed about the identities of the two , but according to the report they were charged with drug trafficking.
May 29: One man was hanged in the prison of Isfahan early this morning. Quoting Isfahan judiciary’s public relations, "Isfahan Metropolis News agency" (IMNA) reported that an Afghan citisen identified as Nour Jamal S. (26) was hanged in the prison of Isfahan early this morning
May 28: One man was hanged in the southeast Iranian town of Zahedan according to the official Iranian sources. According to the official web site of the Iranian judiciary in Baluchestan province, a man identified as Jamshid Mir (age not mentioned) was hanged in the central prison of Zahedan Wednesday May 26.
June 10: One man was hanged in public in the town of Sarab, northwest Iran. The human rights lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei had confirmed yesterday’s hangings in Tehran on his personal web site. They were all allegedly convicted of drug trafficking.

June 4: One man was hanged in the town of Mianeh, in northwest Iranian province of East Azerbaijan. According to the state run Iranian news agency the man was identified as "Jalil B." (36) was convicted of drug trafficking
June 3: One man was hanged in Isfahan, central Iran, early today. According to the official site of the Iranian judiciary in Isfahan, a 25 year old man identified as Saeed was hanged in the prison of Isfahan today. He was convicted of rape according to the report. The official site of the Iranian judiciary in Yazd (also central Iran) reported that four people were hanged in the prison of this city Wednesday May 25.
May 31: Two people were hanged in the prison of Shirvan (north Khorasan province northeastern Iran) reported the state run Iranian news agency ISCA news today. No inofrmation was revealed about the identities of the two , but according to the report they were charged with drug trafficking.
May 29: One man was hanged in the prison of Isfahan early this morning. Quoting Isfahan judiciary’s public relations, "Isfahan Metropolis News agency" (IMNA) reported that an Afghan citisen identified as Nour Jamal S. (26) was hanged in the prison of Isfahan early this morning
May 28: One man was hanged in the southeast Iranian town of Zahedan according to the official Iranian sources. According to the official web site of the Iranian judiciary in Baluchestan province, a man identified as Jamshid Mir (age not mentioned) was hanged in the central prison of Zahedan Wednesday May 26.
June 10: One man was hanged in public in the town of Sarab, northwest Iran. According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, the man was hanged in the Chamran square of the town, which is near Tabriz in northwestern Iran. The public hanging took place yesterday Wednesday June 9, and the man who was identified as "M. H."

DIHA Reporter Detained, Demonstrator Severely Injured. A Van court detained DIHA reporter Çiftçi and a further 10 people under charges of "connection to the KCK." Cemil Akgül, a young man who protested the detentions, got severely injured on his head. The Dicle News Agency (DIHA) reporter for the province of Hakkari (south-eastern Turkey), Hamdiye Çiftçi, and further ten people were detained on 13 June because of alleged connections to the Democratic Confederation of Kurdistan/Turkish Assembly (KCK/TM). The Van 3rd High Criminal Court arrested the eleven people during raids on their homes, among them journalists Çiftçi and executives of the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP). Protests rose in Hakkari as repercussions of the detentions.
The people detained by the Van local court are BDP Hakkari Provincial Chair M. Siddik Sahin, BDP headquarters executive Izzet Belge, central district chair Seyhan Sahin, members of the provincial directorate Emine Akboga, Hüsna Sagan and Fatma Duman, former provincial chair of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP, closed by the Constitutional Court in December 2009) Hivzullah Kansu, former DTP Semdil provincial chair Emrullah Öztürk, Tahir Koç and one other person.
Demonstrator Akgül severely injured. As reported by the YuksekOvaHaber.com news site, 19-year-old Cemil Akgül was severely wounded in the course of demonstrations against the detentions in Hakkari. He was able to undergo surgery on 13 June. His right arm is numb and his left leg might be paralyzed, the news site announced. Akgül was hit at his head by a gas bomb thrown by the police from a close distance. Apparently, he suffered the most serious injuries from the explosion of the gas bomb. Akgül underwent a four-hour surgery in the brain surgeon department of the Van State Hospital. His situation is not critic any more. Akgül is carrying a high risk of his right leg being paralyzed.

In the absence of official ties, Baghistani wants to use the media to strengthen Israel-Kurdish relations. Ma’an – A Tunnel worker was killed on Tuesday morning when the underground passage he was working in collapsed, bringing the total number of dead to 156 during three years of siege, officials said. Director of ambulance and emergency services for Gaza Strip hospitals Muawiya Hassanein identified the victim as 25-year-old Abdullah Baraka from Khan Younis. He was working in a tunnel who's mouth was in the Brazil neighborhood in Rafah. The body of the young man was evacuated to the Abu Yousif An-Najjar Hospital.
Turkey's inhumane treatment of Kurdish children must end
Anti Pogrom Human Rights Organization CHAK awarded the human rights prize to TMK (Anti-Terrorism Law) victim, little prisoner Berivan Sayaca. 15 years old Berivan Sayaca, who was arrested on 9 October and sentenced to 7 years and 8 months imprisonment, was given the award from CHAK.
CHAK Central Chairman Goran Halabca stated that the branches of the organization will start their action for TMK victim children tomorrow in the presence of EU and international human rights organizations. “Our branches will inform all political and humanitarian organizations, particularly EU, about the subject and invite them to do the necessary.
This policy of terrorizing Kurdish children is a disgrace for Turkey on its way to become a EU member. This must be seen clearly and the punishment of Kurdish children must come to an end.”
As to the award to Berivan, Halabcayi said that “We have decided to give the human rights award of Kurdocide Watch-CHAK to our sister Berivan Sayaca who is now in Diyarbakir Jail in the wake of these applications which trample on democracy and human rights. Berivan has became a symbol for all imprisoned and innocent Kurdish children.The award of 5000 crown will be delivered to her in Diyarbakir. We hope this award will be a significant step in the fight for the freedom of Kurdish children.”
The Constitutional Court’s decision last fall to ban the pro-Kurdish party DTP led to massive demonstrations and riots in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan. These actions were followed by a wave of arrests of children, which took place mainly in the Kurdish cities as Diyarbakir, Mardin, Batman, Sirnak, Van, Hakkari and Urfa.
The crimes that these children were considered to commit, was making victory signs with their fingers and to take part in various demonstrations, which in fact was approved by the state itself. Also shouting slogans, participate in funeral ceremonies with their faces covered was considered as crimes. However, the reason why these children had covered their faces in the first place was to avoid being arrested because of their views. According to the sources of CHAK, hundreds of Kurdish children and adolescents are in various prisons of Turkey and Northern Kurdistan today.
Since 2006 in Northern Kurdistan, approximately 5000-6000 young people have been charged with crimes against the country's anti-terrorist laws. Many children between the age group 12-18 were the first target group for the police force, to get arrested with violence. These children were held in prisons during days, without any access to lawyers or relatives.
According to the international agreement that protects the children's rights; children in this age group has to be interrogated by a prosecutor who is qualified to present cases against children in this very specific age group. However, in this case, the prosecutors which were charging these children were in fact prosecutors who were usually carrying cases with heavy penalties for adults.
Both the prosecutor and the Supreme Court approved people between ages fifteen and eighteen to be sentenced under the country's anti-terror law sections, such as sections 7 / 2, and 220 / 6, 7, 8 and 314 / 3, which sentenced to imprisonment up to several years. This proofs the single fact that waving a flag that is banned, showing victory sign during a demonstration or shout slogans, and the police’s single suspicion might be enough to imprison a child in Turkey.
According to the sources of CHAK, the prison cells are dirty and despite the serious illnesses that many of these children carry, the doctor visits occurs very rarely. As result of the torture and inhuman treatment, a while ago, the children of the Diyarbakir prison began to rebel. Last week, these children were deported to prisons in various cities of Turkey.
Since the parents' ability to visit their children was prevented significantly the parents are today protesting in front the Diyarbakir’s prison against these deportations. As a result of the Terrorism Act, which limits the possibility to benefit from a defence lawyer and any support from the relatives, these Kurdish children are prosecuted, tortured, punished, imprisoned and deported.
The UN convention on children's human rights and European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights protects children against unfair acts and are against hate speech. Turkey is a member of the UN and wants to join the EU and has signed under international agreements. Despite all these facts, today there are ongoing torture, discrimination and inhumane treatments against Kurdish children.
Because of pressure from the public, Turkey has been forced to work with the bill. The proposal was formulated and submitted to parliament for approval of 5/10- 09. This proposal was pushed forward in a systematic way, where it once again has been postponed until the autumn of 2010. The proposal is not well deliberated and does not follow the International Covenants. Obviously, the proposal does not solve the problem where the child is prosecuted as a member of illegal organization and propaganda organizations. It does not prevent the children arrest.
Human rights organization Kurdocide Watch- CHAK has started a campaign for the freedom for the Kurdish children. CHAKs suggestions:
The 220 / 6.7, 8 and 314 / 3, 7 / 2, CMK 100 / 3 –laws must be stopped or not be used against children. These laws are against international conventions that protect children against injustices. Therefore, children who are victims of these laws must be released from prison and all proceedings be closed.
Police officers, prosecutors, judges, court and prison staffs who work with children's proceedings needs to be educated and trained in agreement with international standards. The child-prisons must follow international rules.
Our expectations of the UN, EU, human rights organizations and public opinion are to support the Kurdish children who are victims of the Turkish terror laws.
The UN and EU must take this issue seriously. In order to accomplish this, they need to put pressure on Turkey to change the law. Also by sending missions to Turkey and Northern Kurdistan to visit children in prisons and by meeting these children's relatives, human rights- and social organizations and by meeting authorities to improve the situation of children.
