Doctors Without Borders has suspended its work in prisons in the Libyan city of Misrata because it said torture was so rampant that some detainees were brought for care only to make them fit for further interrogation, the group said Thursday

MSF teams began working in Misrata’s detention centers in August, 2011, to treat war-wounded detainees. Since then, MSF doctors had been increasingly confronted with patients who suffered injuries caused by torture during interrogation sessions. The interrogations were held outside the detention centers. In total, MSF treated 115 people who had torture-related wounds. The organization reported all the cases to the relevant authorities in Misrata. Since January, several of the patients returned to interrogation centers were again tortured.

“Some officials have sought to exploit and obstruct MSF’s medical work,” said MSF general director Christopher Stokes. “Patients were brought to us in the middle of interrogation for medical care, in order to make them fit for further interrogation. This is unacceptable. Our role is to provide medical care to war casualties and sick detainees, not to repeatedly treat the same patients between torture sessions.”

MSF medical teams were also asked to treat patients inside the interrogation centers, which the organization categorically refused.

24 January 2012 – UNICEF Regional Director Maria Calivis concludes today a two-day visit to Yemen where she saw first-hand the impact of malnutrition on children’s health. “This year alone, half a million children in Yemen are likely to die from malnutrition or to suffer lifelong physical and cognitive consequences resulting from malnutrition if we don’t take action. Malnutrition is preventable. And, therefore, inaction is unconscionable,” Calivis said.

“Conflict, poverty and drought, compounded by the unrest of the previous year, the high food and fuel prices, and the breakdown of social services, are putting children’s health at great risks and threatening their very survival.” She added.

With 58 per cent of children stunted, Yemen has the second highest rate of chronic malnutrition among children in the world after Afghanistan. Acute malnutrition affects as many as 30 per cent of children in some parts of the country, nearing the levels observed in south Somalia, and twice as high as the internationally recognized emergency threshold.

Malnutrition, along with poor health services, is also to blame for most of the recent deaths of 74 children from measles among 2,500 children affected by a recent outbreak of the disease, according to government figures. While most children would recover from measles within two to three weeks, children with malnutrition can suffer serious complications which can lead to death.
Yemen also has one of the highest rates of death among children under the age of five in the Middle East and North Africa region, at 77 per 1,000 live births. This means that some 69,000 children die every year before their fifth birthday.

Calivis, who is visiting Yemen officially for the first time since her appointment as Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa in December 2011, met with high-level Yemeni officials to look at ways to boost aid for children in the country.

“Now more than ever is the time for a renewed commitment to a better, peaceful future for Yemen’s children. As the country prepares for the next phase, it is essential that children are given top priority in the political agenda. Their needs need to be met and their rights upheld.” she said.

A statement by (LCC) concerning the resolution of the Arab Ministerial Conference to extend the mandate of Arab League observers

22 januari 2012, Once again, the Arab League has failed to put an end to the grave humanitarian crisis of the Syrian people. It has proven to be incompetent in ending the violence of the current regime. During the Arab League’s Observer Mission, security forces continued business as usual, carrying out executions of peaceful protesters, massive arrest and torture campaigns while enforcing economic sanctions and pressure on the areas of protests.

The Syrian people have lost confidence in the Arab League's ability to stop the regime’s ongoing bloodshed. It is clear that the regime has been pulling the country towards chaos and destruction while the Arab League remains stagnant.

The LCC views the extension of the Arab League’s observer mission as another deadline for the regime’s killing machine and a form of support in suppressing the Revolution while Syrian society is being obliterated. The regime succeeded in transforming the first Arab League initiative into its own agenda and was in control of its course and content. During the Arab League's mission, as part of the protocol, 795 people were martyred in the first month, making it a failure in accomplishing all of its initiatives, including the withdrawal of army troops from the cities, ending the daily killings, releasing detainees or clarifying the fate of missing persons.

The LCC finds the Arab League Ministerial Committee's proposal unattainable and lacking proper implementation mechanism. Thus far, it has not nor will it put an end to the regime’s brutality.

The Syrian people will not accept any agreement without a comprehensive and a radical change to this regime of repression and corruption. They demand all killers be tried in a court of law, and to be reimbursed of its national wealth that was plundered.

To pressure the Syrian regime into complying with the Syrian people’s demands, we call on the Arab League Ministerial Committee's of Foreign Affairs to declare the failure of its mission in Syria and to seek assistance from the United Nations.

Tukey's Killing Machine: Set up, armed, trained by CIA

Turkey joined NATO on April 4, 1952. In the same year, the organisation known as "Gladio", or officially as "Super NATO", whose arm in Turkey is the force called Seferberlik Taktik Kurulu (STK - Tactical Mobilisation Group), started its activities in the building of the CIA organisation American Yardim Heyeti (American Aid Delegation - JUSMATT) in the Bahcelievler district of the Turkish capital Ankara.

During the 1960s, following on from the experience of Korea and Vietnam, the American-dominated armies of NATO began to set up their own "special guerrilla warfare" units. The 1959 military accord between the Turkish and US governments envisaged the use of the contra-guerrillas "also in the case of an internal rebellion against the regime".

The STK was restructured in 1965 and was renamed Ozel Harp Dairesi (OHD - Special Warfare Department). It comes under the authority of the President of General Staff and is also known by other titles such as Ozel Kuvvetler Komutanlik (Special Forces Command) or Harekat Dairesi (Operations Department).

Although it was revealed through the "Gladio" affair in Italy in 1990 that such secret organisations also existed in other member states of NATO, and that they maintained close contacts with these countries' secret services and had been involved in a series of murders and bomb plots, the Turkish military and state authorities continued to deny the existence of any such organisation in Turkey.

Only after ex-CIA chief William Colby had revealed that there is also such an organisation in Turkey did the Turkish authorities withdraw their false pretentions that there was no Turkish Gladio.

On December 3, 1990, General Dogan Beyazit, President of the Harekat Dairesi (Operation Department) of Turkey's General Staff and General Kemal Yilmaz, commander of the Ozel Kuvvetler - "Special Forces", issued a press statement. In this statement they revealed that the title of the special NATO organisation in Turkey was Ozel Harp Dairesi (Special Warfare Department) and that its task was "to organise rewsistence in the case of a communist occupation". They further explained that this organisation had fought in Cyprus in 1974 and against the PKK in Kurdistan in 1980, but that its secret members, whom they called "patriots", had "no connection with the contra-guerrilla forces." This latter claim is a blatant lie.

The bloody dictator of the September 12, 1980 coup, Kenan Evren, wrote in his memoirs that Prime Minister Suleyman Demiriel had in the 1970s written to him of his wish to engage the Special Warfare Department to deal with civil unrest. This was denied by Demuriel. Bulent Ecevit, another Prime Minister of the 1970s, revealed that: "As Prime Minister I first became aware of its existence in 1974 through requests from Semih Sancar, chief of the General Staff, for money for secret payments to the Special Warfare Department. I was shocked".

How and why was the Special Warfare Department set up?

The founding aim of the Department is: "In the case of a communist occupation or of a rebellion, to use guerrilla methods and all possible underground activities to bring an end to the occupation."

The special war methods which was taught supposedly for the prevention of a communist occupation include among others "assasinations, bombings, armed robbery, torture, attacks, kidnap, threats, provocation, militia training, hostage- taking, arson, sabotage, propaganda, disinformation, violence and extortion."

Textbooks by American "contra-guerrilla" experts were translated into Turkish, and these special war methods were thus introduced into Turkey. Some of the textbooks written by American experts are: "U.S. Army FM 31/16" (contra-guerrilla operations), "U.S. Army Special Warfare School" (contra-guerrilla tactics and techniques), "FM 31/20" (special forces operational techniques), "FM 31/21 Special Forces Operations" (ST urban assignments, 31/21 guerrilla warfare and special forces operations ), "FM 31/21 A. Special Forces Operations (U)" (special forces secret operations).

The Turkish contra-guerrilla force developed the most complex and sophisticated methods for its war against the PKK. Since 1985 a series of new textbooks and instructions have been published. Just one example is the book "Ic Guvenlik Konsepti" (The Concept of Internal Security), which was published by the Special Warfare Command of the General Staff in 1985, and which is used as a textbook in the contra-guerrilla camps.

The underground elements of the Special Warfare Department - that is, the elements which carry out actions - are called contra- guerrillas. The Special Warfare Department can be identified with the contra-guerrillas, since it is the latter who put the Department's work into practise.

The Turkish contra-guerrillas have many schools in Turkey, in which they receive their training - in Ankara, Bolu, Kayseri, Buca near Izmir, Canakkale and since 1974 in Cyprus. "In the mountain commando school in Bolu, green berets (Delta Forces) who fought in Vietnam also got their training".

The contra-guerrilla teams, who are implanted with a fanatical hatred of the "peril" of "communism" and "separatism", whose heads are full of chauvanism, are unleashed against anyone who stands in opposition to the regime. For their goal, which they pursue with the support of the USA, is "the establishment of a competent military and semi-military force which will, jointly with the security forces, maintain internal security".

In their eyes not only the "communists", but each and every democratic movement is a danger which they aim to counter using guerrilla methods.

The American military doctrine as presented in the textbooks holds that "our security is threatened not only by open attacks, but also by other types of threats which are even more dangerous than open attacks but which do not look like open attacks. These dangers consist of the attampts to bring about transformations and changes from the inside."

Selected elements of the Turkish contra-guerrillas together with the generals were all trained in contra-guerrilla schools in the USA. The aims of this training are defined as follows:

"The goal of military aid is to educate soldiers from underdeveloped countries in accordance with U.S. ideology and then to install them advantageously in the leadership of their countries". During their training in the USA the contra-guerrilla forces "are taught about social problems in their countries, and shown films which demonstrate the aggression and subversion of the communists.

They learn how to handle explosives under the supervision of green berets in Matamoros near the Mexican border, and they are taught how to kill, stab or strangle somebody silently, etc".

Other places where Turkish officials are trained are the Escuela de los Americas in Panama, which is attached to the U.S. base Southern Comfort, the Police Academy near Washington and the Schongau and Oberammergau bases in Germany.

Part of the Special Warfare Department is made up of officers from official units known as A-units or Special Operations Units. B-units were formed within the Special Warfare Department, made up of professional volunteer commando forces. Both types of units employ contra-guerrilla tactics.

The forces built by the Special Warfare Department have everywhere formed organisations in the form of cells. These elements, known as "patriots", are placed in front-line duties by being infiltrated as agents-provocateurs into political parties, administrative departments and opposition groups.

The strongest pillar of the Special Warfare Department is the Secret Service. In Turkey the Secret Service is subordinate to the General Staff and so also to the Special Warfare Department. In Turkey there are various secret services: the MIT (National Secret Service Organisation) and the Secret Services of the Gendarmerie, the General Staff, the Foreign Ministry, the Director of Security (the political police) and the Presidential Office. These secret services hold quarterly meetings under the umbrella of the National Secret Service Coordinating Committee.

This Turkish secret service organisation was originally called MAH and was restructured and renamed MIT in 1965. The MIT is a branch of the CIA and collaborates with the Israeli secret service MOSSAD, the German BND and earlier (up to 1975) with the Iranian SAVAK.

Many operations of the Special Warfare Department are carried out in collaboration with the MIT. A third of the MIT's functionaries are members of the armed forces and the rest are mostly retired military personnel. Since the founding of the MIT, all the heads have been generals. They are appointed by the General Staff or by the Special Warfare Department. The 1989 budget of the MIT amounted to 42,745 million Turkish lira.

Another organisation coming under the Special Warfare Department is the Psychological Warfare Department.

On November 9, 1983 this department became the TIB (Ministry for Social Relations). Its headquarters are in Ankara. Its first chief was Dogan Beyazit, who was at the same time also head of the Special Warfare Department. He was in charge of propaganda operations which the CIA program divided into "white, "grey" and "black" propaganda. Many professors were employed within the TIB.

The TIB has brought out numerous journals and pamphlets and even comics. It formed satellite organisations under such names as "The Institute for Research into Turkish Culture", "Turkish World Research Institute", etc. The main aim of the TIB since the '80s has been to develop the psychological front in the war against the PKK.

With this aim in mind, pamphlets are printed which try to blame the PKK for massacres committed by the contra-guerrillas. Such pamphlets are distributed in various languages in Europe, purporting to originate from such ficticious publishers as "the Union of Anatolian Women".

Or else bogus leaflets attacking the PKK are distributed under the names of existing or ficticious political organisations. Posters and leaflets are put about which are full of ridiculous propaganda such as those claiming that the PKK is an Armenian organisation. Or television programmes and books are produced which slander the PKK. In the towns of Kurdistan professors hold seminars about how "Kurds are really Turks" etc. The most effective institution from the point of view of the TIB - that is the Psychological Warfare Department of the Special Warfare Department - is the press. Turkish daily newspapers such as "Hurriyet", "Milliyet", "Tercumann", "Turkiye" and "Sabah", which have become semi-official organs of the state, are pressured into carrying out systematic propaganda against the PKK.

Another area where the Special Warfare Department wields its influence is of course the political parties. All state politicians and all bourgeois parties in Turkey are under the control of the Special Warfare Department. Here are just two examples:

Turkish President Suleyman Demirel was the first Turk to get a scholarship from the Eisenhower Exchange Fellowship, which is controlled by the CIA. Later he held for many years the agency rights for the firm of Morrison, which built the death cells in Vietnam. When Demirel was in the USA in 1963, he was sent into the Adalet Partisi (Justice Party). In 1965 he became the chairman of this party and is now State President.

Turgut Ozal, who was Prime Minister from 1983 to 1990 and President from 1990 until his death in 1993, was an official of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Special Warfare Department And Paramilitary MHP

During the 1970s the struggle for democracy was developing in Turkey. In Kurdistan the struggle for national liberation was growing. With the help of the MHP (National Action Party), which was brought onto the scene in the 70s, hundreds of students, workers, intellectuals, trades unionists and educationalists were murdered: the president of DISK (the Federation of Revolutionary Trades Unions) Kemal Turkler, the journalist Abdi Ipekci, Professor Dr Bedri Karafakiroglu, professors Umit Doganay and Cavit Orhan Tutengil, Umit Kaftancioglu, State Counsel Dogan Oz, security chief Cevat Yurdakul, University Professor Orhan Yavuz, Bedrettin Comert, Server Tanilli (who survived but remained disabled), Chair Adana Chamber of Agricultural Engineers Akin Ozdemir and hundreds more.

In 1974 in Maras they massacred inumerable Kurdish and Alevi people - children, women and old folk and men. This preplanned act of genocide opened the way for the military coup of September 12, 1980.

It is know from the experiences of various countries that the CIA works together with the police to organize paramilitary groups in the tactics of irregular warfare.

William Colby wrote: "To prevent Turkey from falling into the hands of the communists, the CIA gave support to anti-communist institutions". Retired general Sezsi Orkunt, ex-chief of the General Staff said: "The Turkish armed forces were more worried about the Left than the Right. The Right was organised in the MHP and its leader Turkes was helped on his way". When the MHP's Ankara headquarters were searched at the time of the 1980 coup, the "Contra-Guerrilla Assignment 31/15 on the Model Plan for Underground Cells" was found there. The MHP had obtained this plan from Colonel Mehmet Alanyuva of the Agents Section of the Special Warfare Department, the MHP's militants, who were organised in accordance with this plan, went on to perpetuate a veritable massacre against innocent people from the opposition.

The CIA also employed the MHP militants for terrorist plots on an international level. For example, the murderer of the journalist Abdi Ipekci was the same man who in 1991 carried out the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul.

The MHP is also organised in Europe, and particularly in Germany. Until 1976 it was organised there under the same title. After that in Europe they took on the title Avrupa Ulkucu Dernekleri Federasyonu (Federation of National Associations in Europe). The MHP's organisation in Germany maintains connections with the German Secret Service. The journalist Ugur Mumcu, who was assassinated in 1993, wrote: "These connections were set up in Cologne by a German named Kannabin".

The MHP has another patron in Germany - Rudi Nazar. He is a CIA agent who was for many years active in Ankara and was later transferred to Bonn. Jurgen Roth went into this matter in detail in his book "Criminals Incorporated" and came to the conclusion, based on information from a president of one of the republics of the former Soviet Union, that the MHP is also involved in the heroin trade in Germany.

General Haydar Saltik, one of those responsible for the September 12, 1980 coup, later left the army and became Consul in the Turkish consulate in Berne. He renewed his contacts with the Turkish nationalists and sent 15,000 officers and MHP militants, who came under the Special Warfare Department and had already had a hand in many attacks against the Armenians, to Azerbaijan. After their training, these militants were sent to Baku. The attacks on the Kurdish population in Antalya and other Turkish towns during the past year were also carried out by the MIT and the MHP. The MHP is still the paramilitary wing of the Special Warfare Department. This time, however, it was more effective, since the entire state with all its constituent parts has grown into an even more racist, anti-Kurdish and paramilitary organisation.

The Operations Of The Turkish Contra-Guerrillas

The bloody work of the Special Warfare Department where the contra- guerrillas are employed in the front line against the national liberation struggle. First, however, we would like to recount some of the decisive points of the contra- guerrillas' activities prior to 1980:

Agents from the Special Warfare Department threw a bomb into the house in Thessallonika in Greece which was used as the Mustafa Kemal Museum, and blamed this act on the Greek police. Consequently, on the 6 and 7 of September 1955, fanatical groups fired up by the contra-guerrillas wrecked Greek homes and businesses in Istanbul.

The most important actions of the Special Warfare Department were the three military coups. This Department was responsible for the coup of May 27, 1967 and above all for the last two coups of the March 12, 1971 and September 12, 1980. The then Foreign Minister Ihsan Sabri Caglayangil, who was invited to Teheran a few days before March 12, 1971, learned from the Shah of Iran that there was going to be a coup in Turkey. (17) The then commander of the Turkish airforce, Muhsin Batur, went the the USA just before the coup of September 12, 1980.

Again the then airforce commander Tahsin Sahinkaya flew to the USA and the coup took place two days after his return. Carter, who was at the opera when he heard about the coup, called Paul Henze, the CIA agent responsible for Turkey, and told him: " Your people have just made a coup".

The torture chambers which opened in 1971 gave the contra- guerrillas an important opportunity to gain practical experience.

The contra-guerrilla generals who took people to the torture chambers in Ziverbay in Istanbul told their victims for the first time that they were prisoners of the contra-guerrillas. The interrogations were carried out by contra-guerrilla specialists called EBU (Correct Information Officers). A team of interrogation specialists called the DAL (Deep Investigation Laboratory) was set up by the political police in Ankara.

These torture specialists murdered or caused permanent damage to hundreds of people. Later on, these teams were dispatched all over Turkey and especially Kurdistan. In 1971 the contra-guerrillas' torture was directed by General Faik Turun, Turgut Sonap and Memduh Unluturk.

The invasion of Cyprus was an action of the Special Warfare Department. In 1955 the Department set up a secret organisation called the Turk Mukavemet Hareketi (Turkish Resistance Movement). This organisation carried out systematic provocations in Cyprus in order to prepare the conditions for the 1974 coup. To prepare for the occupation of Cyprus, teams directed by Hiram Abbas and the Special Warfare Department established themselves in Beirut, from where they could organise activities in Cyprus. The Cyprus invasion was organised by the then chief of the Special Warfare Department Kemal Yemek. Cyprus was the first serious test for the Turkish contra-guerrillas. After 1980 Kurdistan took the place of Cyprus in this respect.

The State Security Courts are a product of the Special Warfare Department and they are assigned the task of restructuring the judicial process to fit the demands of the contra-guerrillas.

In accordance with a directive of the contra-guerrillas, the the State Security Courts aim "not to condemn the defendants according to the punishments set out for the political crimes, but to administer punishments as severe as those set out for murder and other crimes against the person". The detainees were severely tortured and then came before a contra-guerrilla court. Most of the judges have come from the military and are therefore tools of the Special Warfare Department.

The murders and terrorist acts committed by the MHP were actions of the Special Warfare Department. Their purpose was to intimidate the opposition and prepare the conditions for a coup. The Special Warfare Department was successful in this task: on September 12, they carried out the military coup d'etat. This coup was the most important action of the contra-guerrillas. All arms of the state were reorganised on paramilitary lines.

The Special Warfare Department gained control over the underworld (the Turkish mafia), the press, commerce, the judicial system, parliament, the universities and all other areas of society. All administrative organs and laws were restructured along the same lines.

Notes:

*1 The "Super-NATO" organisation was set up under the control of the CIA in all the NATO countries. The headquarters of this organisation was in Brussels and was named the Allied Coordination Committee (ACC). Secret meetings were held annually in which delegates from all the member countries took part. The official purpose of the organisation is "to organise resistance using irregular warfare methods in case of a communist occupation".

The organisation has at its disposal special funds and weapons depots. It is not answerable for its activities under the laws of the individual member states. The organisation's branch in Italy was called "Gladio", in Germany "Anti-Communist Assault Unit", in Greece " Hide of the Red Buck", in Belgium "Glavia". The "Super- NATO" also set up branch organisations in non-NATO countries such as Austria and Switzerland.

*2 Referring to contra-guerrilla warfare conducted by the USA, former U.S. Secretary of State McNamara explained that "partisan wars call for a change in our understanding of warfare. In regions where partisan war has broken out, what is needed is not a great number of military units and weapons, but rather small units who have been well trained in guerrilla and counter-guerrilla tactics and armed with special weapons".

The American Delta Forces, the British Special Air Service (SAS), the Italian Special Forces Section and the German GSG-9 are units of this type. The former U.S. President Johnson declared in 1964 that 344 contra-guerrilla units had been trained by the USA in 49 countries of the world.

*3 In the 70s the following persons, among others, who still occupy important positions today, were members of the Turkish police and secret service: Sekru Balci, Ilgaz Aykutlu, Kenan Koc, Umit Erdal, Hiram Abbas (who was killed in 1990 [by militants of the armed communist organization Devrimci Sol, was in the 70s one of the three most influential persons in the MIT), Mehmet Aymur (Abbas' right-hand man in the MIT), Hayri Kozakcioglu (who was trained by Scotland Yard and in 1987 made Governor with Special Powers), Unal Erkan (at that time Kozakcioglu's successor as "Supergovernor" in diyarbakir).

21 January 2012, ANKARA, -- Gultan Kisanak the co-chair of BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) condemned Eutelsat’s decision to suspend Roj-TV’s broadcast. “This unacceptable decision is a violation of freedom of thought and expression. Roj-TV is the voice of all of us. We shall protect our voice with struggle and resistance,” she said.

She remarked that the ongoing blocking of Roj-TV is part of the AKP government’s policy to silence the Kurdish people and to hide the truth from society.

The PBD’s co-chair said that “Roj-TV is the eye, ear and voice of the Kurdish people; it is the voice of those who demand democracy and peace. No one will be strong enough to silence this voice. The attempt to silence Roj-TV, which provides broadcast against black propaganda, is in parallel with the AKP government’s policy of destruction and elimination.”

Kisanak remarked that they would struggle against the pressures on Roj-TV and called on all Kurdish people to protest against the decision and to protect their own voice.

21 January 2012, Microphone turned off when Diyarbakır IHD chair Muharrem Erbey spoke in Kurdish. The 38th "KCK" (Kurdish Communities Union) main trial continued on 20 January in Diyarbakır with the reading of tapped phone conversation made by IHD (Human Rights Association) Diyarbakır branch chair Muharrem Erbey.

Lawyers protested at the reading of all details about murdered children and the deaths of civilians and HPG (People’s Defence Forces) guerrillas and asked the court board to stop the reading which, as they said, brought the coldness of death in the hearing room.

Diyarbakır Bar Association Chairman, lawyer Mehmet Emin Aktar protested at the reading of tapes about the procedure for families to reclaim the bodies of their children and demanded respect for the dead. IHD chair Erbey’s microphone was turned down when he started to speak in Kurdish about the figures the IHD acquired about the violation of child rights and massacres.

Speaking afterwards, lawyer Reyhan Yalçındağ told about the many children who died in the region and said that "Uğur Kaymaz was 12 years-old when he was shot dead with 13 bullets in Kızıltepe. The perpetrators haven’t been punished yet and his file still lies with the European Court of Human Rights."

Ceylan Önkol - said the lawyer - was found dead and torn to pieces by her family. Her murder also remains unsolved and her file lies with the ECHR.

"The murderers of these children walk around freely while human rights defenders are being tried here."

"It is not a crime to go after the murderers of these children who die because of the explosion of devices they find on streets. Dear Chief Judge, - asked the lawyer - do you know how many children in the region are mimed because of military devices?”

Yalçındağ protested at the reading of tapes concerning the death of six months old Mehmet Uytun who was hit by a tear gas in Cizre district of Şırnak. Lawyer Yalçındağ asked the Chief Judge Menderes Yılmaz not to make the people live the same pain again by reading all recorded details about the events.

Following the reading of phone conversation tapes, the court board adjourned the trial to January 23.

17 January 2012, SIRNAK, -- Local sources are reporting about the intimidation and harassment of the survivors of Roboski Massacre, in which 35 civilian were killed. Three survivors of the massacre were summoned on Sunday by military officers who wanted to question them over their smuggling activities.

The government tried to cover up the massacre by saying it was a "mistake", but evidences from the survivors as well as the fact that no investigation has yet been launched into the massacre prove that things are different. According to the evidences, the massacre sport was a route regularly used by the villagers to go into Iraq to buy mainly sugar and fuel to sell. The army was very well of it.

The three survivors, Davut Encu, Salih Encu and Hacı Encu told the Taraf daily on Monday that military officers had called them for questioning over allegations of the “violation of passport laws,” “crossing a border illegally” and “bringing goods into the country illegally.”

3 Kurdish brothers sentenced to death and imprisonment

17 January 2012, MEHABAD, -- Three members of a family named Eli, Hebib and Ceefer Efshari from Mehabad city received high sentences by the Iranian Revolutionary Court, local sources reported.

Mr Eli and Hebib were condemned to death sentence on the ground of Moharabe (enmity with God) and Mr Ceefer was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment with the same excuse. The verdicts of the prisoners had been confirmed on 14th January by the High Court.

All three were arrested by the Iranian Intelligent Service last year on the ground of working with one of the Kurdish political parties. Working with opposition parties is counted as a threat to the country’s security according to Iranian constitution. This is regarded as the enmity with God.

They had been under intensive torture and mistreatment in almost all of their imprisonment since their capture, the prisoners’ family stated.

21 January 2012, NEWSDESK, -- Zanyar and Luqman Muradi are two Kurdish political prisoners who are at imminent risk of execution. The two brothers were sentenced to death on 22nd Nov 2010, with the charge of Mohareb-enmity with God- after spending nine months under cruel tortures.

They appealed against their sentence to the high court urging it to reconsider their case. However, their appeal was refused several weeks ago.

19 January 2012, BOKAN, -- A Kurdish political activist named Usef Rehmani was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by the Iranian Revolutionary Court, Mehabad branch.

According to Mukrian News Agency Mr Rehmani was arrested 4 years ago on 2008 with the excuse of working with one of the Kurdish political parties by the Iranian Intelligent Service. All this period he had been held in prison waiting his trial. Mr Rehmani is from Bokan city and he is currently held in the central prison of Urmiye.

A political activist sentenced to 4 years in Seqiz

19 January 2012, SEQIZ, -- According to local correspondents a Kurdish activist named as Behroz Rishe Saheb from Seqiz city was condemned to four years imprisonment by the Iranian Revolutionary Court. Mr Rishe Saheb had been arrested by the Iranian Intelligent Service on the ground of working with one of the Kurdish political parties several months ago.

After a while he was released on a bail but then received a sentence of four years imprisonment on 10th January. Mr Rishe Saheb is currently held in the central prison of Seqiz.

A Kurdish youth seriously injured by soldiers’ gunshot

18 January 2012, SERDESHT, A young Kurds Moxtar from Shiwebrayme village around Serdesht city was dangerously wounded by the Iranian revolutionary Crops, local sources reported.

Mr Moxtar came under gunfire of the Iranian soldier at the check point, 3 kilometres far from the city, in the early morning of 17th January. He was shot while he was driving his car from Rebet to Serdesht city although he was not carrying anything illegal and he has never committed anything against Iranian policy, Moxtar’s family stated.

Mr Moxtar was transferred to Urmiye’s hospital in Urmiye city due to his serious condition and he is under intention of specialist doctor.

Luqman and Zanyar Muradi’s execution confirmed

16 January 2012, KARAJ, Iran, -- Death sentences given to Kurdish political prisoners Luqman and Zanyar Muradi were confirmed by the appeal court. According to Federation of Political Prisoners, Luqman and Zanyar had appealed for revision of their death sentences. But the Court rejected their appeal and passed the verdict to the executive board.

Luqman and Zanyar were informed of the appeal’s rejection few days ago by the prison official of Rejaeshar prison, where they are currently held incommunicado.

Luqman and Zanyar were arrested on 17th October 2009 in Meriwan city. After nine months of extensive tortures and mistreatments they were charged with Moharabe (enmity with God) and sentenced to death on 22nd December 2010.

12 people hanged in Iran

16 January 2012, IRAN, -- Twelve people were executed on 15th January by the Iranian Authorities in the city of Shiraz, Mehr news agency reported. Seven of the victims were hanged in the early morning all together in the prison yard of Shiraz prison. Five others were hanged in the public on the same day in the same city.

It was stated that the prisoners were executed with different excuses such as drag dealing, murdering, kidnapping and armed robbery.

Barbarities in Balochistan has now taken the shape of a human catastrophe.

More than 40 dead bodies are beyond recognition because of continuous exposure to harsh weather and wild animals. The ones who were recognized have been tortured to the extent that it shames humanity. Their bones have been broken, eyes have been plucked, bodies desecrated, and some killed with hunger and thirst.

The torture marks on the bodies of killed Baloch or those who survived and were found in badly injured condition give the glimpse of brutalities the detained Baloch go under in Pakistani detention centers.

The silence by civilized world is beyond comprehension.

The world that is even savior of animal rights is criminally silent on the genocide of Baloch and it is a big question mark. They try their best to save the lives of animals but cannot see the Baloch mothers who are going through immense pain because of extra-judicial killings of their innocent children.

Baloch nation is not only facing state terror but also bearing crimes against humanity by Pakistan Army. Torching villages, bombing civilian populated areas and forcing them to leave their homes, destroying farming lands are the inhumane crimes which can be evidently spotted but unfortunately no media or journalists have access to the area which is under Army siege.

The Baloch patriotic leader said that it is pity that those Baloch who run for their lives to other cities are not even spared from the wrath of Pakistani military. Not only the Baloch residing in Sindh have been subjected to brutalities but those who took refuge in Afghanistan were chased and attacked by Pakistani state and her agents.

Although late but the International powers have finally seen the barbarities committed on Baloch nation but it must be cleared that the all human rights abuses in Balochistan can only be stopped when Balochistan becomes independence.

American diplomat Chris Mason, in an article, admitted that religious extremism and regional instability can only be countered with the independence of Balochistan, which confirms our opinion and stance, Said Hyrbyair Marri.

“We appeal America, Europe and all International powers to adopt a stern stance on Pakistan’s double faced policy of religious extremism. The International community should support the Baloch progressive force in their struggle for freedom. The world should support the Baloch pro-independence forces in the same fashion as they did in Libya to topple 40 years old dictatorship.”

The Baloch leader further said, “If America and other civilized nations kept silence on human rights abuses in Balochistan, Pakistan will consider it a clean chit to escalate its barbarities there and will make the region a sanctuary for terrorism and religious extremism, which will be very harmful for the whole world.”

20.01.2012, HAKKARİ (DİHA) – Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) made a statement about the explosion occurred yesterday in front of Hakkari BDP Branch Building and caused a citizen’s life. According to the BDP’s statement the explosion is a conspiracy organized by a gang in the Turkish state to terrorize Kurdish people.

While police prevented MP Tanal from making a statement on the trial of Kurdish politicians on the grounds of “Chief Prosecutor’s order, Tanal reacted to the interference and remarked that extraordinary practices were implemented in Diyarbakır.

Following a short speech with police authorities, Tanal made a short statement and called attention to the violations of procedure in the “KCK” trial. Tanal pointed out to the high number of plainclothes policemen and military officials in the courtroom.

Tanal also called attention to the prevention of defendant’s self-defense by turning off their microphones and remarked that the court obstinate with the defendants in this regard. ERBIL, Iraqi Kurdistan -- In an exclusive interview with Rudaw, Murat Karayilan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) said five years of peace talks with Turkey failed because the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not honor promises it made during the talks. Karayilan said that unless Turkey grants Kurds autonomy, full cultural rights and releases all political prisoners, the PKK will refuse to lay down arms.

Rudaw: Kurds in all parts of Kurdistan expressed solidarity for the death of 35 civilian Kurds killed in North Kurdistan by Turkish warplanes. On the official level in Iraqi Kurdistan, condolences were offered too. Was the solidarity up to the level expected?

Murat Karayilan: The government of Justice and Development Party (AKP) has declared a comprehensive war against the Kurdish people and Kurdistan’s struggle for freedom. Through that war, it is trying to subordinate the people. The Turkish state and other occupiers of Kurdistan are doing all they can to prevent Kurds from benefiting from the redesigning and reshaping of the Middle East. They also intend to besiege the Kurdistan Region. In the past, a common position shared by Turkey, Iran and Syria to that effect existed and it continues up to this day. They want to weaken the Kurdish people. That is why they carried out the attack in Roboske. But the reaction by the Kurdish people against it and their protests everywhere was very important.

First, the reaction showed that the occupiers cannot massacre Kurds no matter which part of Kurdistan or what village they may live in. Kurds support one another. This is a strong message to occupiers.

Second, the protests and solidarity by the Kurdish people showed that Kurds are an active nation. It is true that there are boundaries separating Kurds, but all Kurds share similar sentiments.

I respect and salute the valuable stance of the Kurds, especially in South (Iraqi) Kurdistan. Also it is a positive and laudable position that the president of the Kurdistan Region - Massoud Barzani sent a delegation to attend the first day of the funeral for the victims.

The Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has thanked the chief of staff of the military. He said “nothing has been done deliberately and it was a natural thing.” It is noteworthy that he did not apologize but choose to thank the officers who carried out the massacre.

If 35 Turks had been killed in an ambush in Bursa or Izmir, the whole government would have rushed there. There would have been at least three days of public mourning. But they did not do anything about this incident because the victims were Kurds.

There is a clear discrimination. Why a delegation by the Kurdistan Region’s president crosses the border to attend the funeral, and all lawmakers from the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) in Ankara and Istanbul attended the funeral, but no one from the government attended? Even the governor of Sirnak did not attend. It was clear they did not consider the incident a cause of concern and later started the New Year celebrations.

Apology is not enough. If there is rule of law, then those who gave orders for the attack and the perpetrators must be held accountable. They have committed a crime by killing 35 innocent unarmed Kurds, 17 of whom were children. This is barbarism. Where in the world would you see this kind of brutality in the 21st century? This shows it is an occupying country. The massacre is a threat to all Kurds. They carried out the massacre to threaten Kurds. This threat is evident from their government´s position and from the position of the army.

Rudaw: You said you will avenge the lives of the victims of the Roboske attack. Don’t you think it is better to take the revenge through political means and not armed methods?

Murat Karayilan: This is what I said, "Let nobody be sad. We won’t let the blood of these individuals be wasted. We will want justice for them.” I said that and it can include everything. Our people are staging protests everywhere and demand accountability. We are demanding revenge through diplomatic, political and legal means. If it is needed, then we will do it through military means. In other words, we owe it to the 35 young men who were killed. We will not let their blood be wasted. We will make the Turkish occupier pay for it."

Rudaw: How do you see the remarks of Turkish deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc that Kurdish rights will be enshrined in the new constitution of Turkey and that Kurdish identity and language will be recognized?

Murat Karayilan: Arinc’s remarks are not serious. We see these remarks within the framework of the war waged against us. From time to time they float such remarks in order to create some hope for some parties. Then they create rift and weakness.

If Arinc is serious, then let him end the isolation of PKK’s jailed leader Abdulla Ocalan at Imrali. Let them release the 5,000 Kurdish politicians who have been put in prison for no reason. Let them stop the killing operations. Let them take practical steps. Why do they talk in parliament? Now there is pressure on our people and society. Our leader is in prison. The democratic Kurdish politicians are all in prison. The heads of Kurdish civic groups, Kurdish unionists, elders and young, Kurdish women, lawyers and journalists are in prison.

Who have they left outside the bars? They have detained all the leading figures and do not let them defend themselves in their mother tongue. They ban Kurdish language in courts. After all this, Arinc says ‘we will grant Kurds all their rights?’ How can we even believe him? His remarks are not serious. They make these remarks to hide the massacres and the truth about who they are. Therefore, such remarks have no value.

Rudaw: What about the policy of openness that Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay has been talking about? Have they talked to you or the Kurdish side in general about it? What do you expect from them?

Murat Karayilan: There are no talks between us and the Turkish state. As far as I know there are no talks between the Turkish state and any Kurdish group. First we have to ask what the first “democratic opening” was about to have any hopes about this second one?

This man, Besir Atalay, lied to the whole society for two years. He said, we will bring about democratic opening and then it became clear that it was a plan to eliminate the Kurdish liberation movement.

"Just like Saddam they say "we are brothers." We are friends and we will grant you your rights.”

Now that they are in a limbo again, they say they will start the second opening. At the same time, Atalay says, “we work on the basis of unilateral integration.” They want to integrate Kurds into themselves. That means melting Kurds. There is nothing as recognizing the Kurdish nation in the mind and philosophy of the AKP. They say the Kemalists’ denial of Kurds was wrong. There are Kurds, but the Turkish people will absorb everybody. They don’t say there are two peoples in Turkey. They say there is one people.

They don’t want to accept Kurds as the second nationality in Turkey. If they accepted this, then there will be no problem. They say Kurds are our brothers and can sing and speak in their language. But they don’t accept Kurds as a nation. They use a political, mysterious and hypocritical language. This Besir Atalay is an expert on using hypocritical language. All his words are based on lies.

We have no meetings with them and pin no hopes on their remarks. They are making such remarks because they intend to wage a complicated war. They are intent on war, just like Saddam. They follow Saddam’s policies. Didn’t Saddam say he would give Kurds autonomy only to end the Kurdish revolt? Didn’t he form fake autonomy through his servants? That is what the AKP is doing, too. Just like Saddam they say “we are brothers. We are friends and we will grant you your rights.” But they don’t do that in practice.

In that sense, they are worse than Saddam. Their fascist and tyrannical mentality is not different from Saddam’s. In some respects, they are harsher than Saddam was. They don’t accept Kurds as a nation. Everything they say is aimed at undermining the Kurds and create rifts between the Kurds and crush their spirit of resistance.

Within this framework their media and journalists, writers and experts are waging a psychological warfare against the Kurds day and night. AKP ministers are overseeing this warfare. That is why we see their words in that same context. Until they take practical steps, no one should believe in them.

Rudaw: Was the return of two groups of PKK members to Turkey in 2009 the outcome of peace talks between your group and Turkey that took place in Oslo?

Murat Karaliyan: The meetings in Oslo were serious efforts to find a lasting solution. It is not wise to reveal the details of all the meetings now. But there were continuous talks in Oslo and on Imrali Island. The return of two groups of PKK as was part of the peace talks and it was in fact the suggestion of Erdogan himself. For that he sent a team to meet with our leader Abdulla Ocalan and a team to meet with Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani. We received the message from both sides and after a meeting; we decided to send to Turkey two groups of our members.

The peace process was about to reach a deadlock and to help it continue we saw the idea of sending home two teams of our members as wise. Erdogan made that suggestion in order to strengthen his position. Among our members we chose those who didn’t have any court orders against them in Turkey. The two groups were from our guerrillas and from the Makhmur camp. They peacefully crossed the Habur Bridge and said, “We have come on the invitation of leader Ocalan. We have no regrets and we have come for peace.”

Rudaw: What role did the Kurdistan Region play in those talks? It is said that some peace talks were held in Salahaddin.

Murat Karayilan: To arrange the talks between us and Turkey an international organization was formed in Europe. The talks started with our members in Europe. At the same time talks were held in Imrali. At first the talks were not direct. They were carried out through intermediaries for two years. But later they gradually become direct talks and 4-5 delegates from each side carried out direct talks for three years. Each meeting ended with some results. But unfortunately the Turkish side never honored the outcome of any of the meetings.

On the one hand they would meet with us and on the other hand they would arrest Kurdish politicians and launch military operations. We would ask them why they did that and they would reply, “It is done by another wing and we cannot stop them. We will try to stop them.”

Later on we realized that that was not the case. They were all in on it. In Turkey there is only one person who runs everything and that person is Erdogan. He decides everything. There is no dissent in his government and if there, he has brought it under control. But after he managed to strengthen his position, he showed his true side. He turned violent. He became confident and stopped listening to anyone.

As for talks in Salahaddin, that is not true. Talks were held only in Oslo. But we had informed our brothers in Iraqi Kurdistan and they were aware of the talks. They were happy about the talks, but played no role.

Rudaw: In a previous interview with Rudaw, you said that the decision by the ETA group in Spain to lay down arms was the right move, but that the situation in Turkey is not suitable for PKK to lay down arms. Can you explain what it takes for the PKK to lay down arms against Turkey?

Murat Karayilan: The Basque region in Spain has autonomy. In Spain all the different ethnic groups were granted autonomy. The different regions in Spain are exercising their rights through autonomy. The same thing is necessary in eastern Turkey. Turkey needs to write a new constitution like Spain. The Turkish government is currently in a process of writing a new constitution and I believe Spain can be used as an example. You asked me to explain this issue in numbers. Here are the following solutions:

1. Kurds and their identity must be recognized in Turkey’s new constitution.

2. Self-determination, autonomy or federalism must be granted the Kurds in Turkey.

3. The Turkish government must grant the Kurds all cultural rights and allow Kurds to study in their mother tongue. All ethnic groups in Turkey must be equal in their cultural rights. The Kurds should have as many rights as the Turks have in their country.

4. Today, our leader and more than 8,000 of our members are in Turkish prisons. They are all innocent. If you say because we are at war with them, the Turks have killed more of us. More than 17,000 Kurds were killed on the orders of Turkish leaders. They burnt more than 5,000 of our villages. First, they must release our leader and all the other prisoners.

I can count more crimes but I don’t need to mention them all here. In order for the Kurdish community to progress socially, economically, and politically, the government must compensate the victims and plan many projects in the Kurdish areas. The government should take steps in this regard. A social peace process in Turkey must be created. How can these things be done? In the new constitution Kurdish ethnicity must be recognized and the Kurds must be granted self-determination. The Kurds should be allowed to study in their mother tongue. I would give priorities to these points.

Many people in South Kurdistan say that the PKK is still choosing armed struggles. That’s a wrong interpretation. It is true that we have weapons and we are still at war, but we are not saying armed struggle is the solution. We only use arms to defend ourselves.

We have more people in the political struggle. You can see how people pour into the streets and carry out activities. We consider these activities as struggle and uprising. We will reach our goals through people’s voice and we mostly depend on this. But the Turkish government uses force to destroy us and so we carry arms to defend ourselves. As long as the Turkish military is a threat to the Kurds and their achievements, the guerrillas will continue to bear arms.

If the new constitution recognizes the Kurdish ethnicity in Turkey and there are no more threats on the Kurds inside Turkey, I believe the Turkish military will cease its military operation into territories of South Kurdistan as well. Once the Turkish government accepts the Kurds inside Turkey, it will no longer consider the Kurds outside Turkey as enemy. As a result there won’t be any more threats on north and south Kurdistan. That is when the issue of laying down arms will come into practice. But, none of these things have happened yet. If we lay down arms the Turkish government will destroy the Kurds completely. Today, when the BDP and other Kurdish organizations are courageously speaking out inside Turkey, it is because of the force balance between the guerrillas and the Turkish government.

The Turkish government wants to destroy the guerrilla by using expressions as ‘outlaw group’ and such, to stop the Kurdish youth from joining us. The relations between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey are essentially based on this balance of force. Today, the guerrilla is playing a role in protecting the Kurds’ achievements. Once these threats are gone, we will discuss the subject of laying down arms.

Rudaw: Avni Ozgurel, a writer for Radikal newspaper says that the PKK will lay down arms by next summer. What can you tell us about this?

Murat Karayilan: Not only Avni Ozgurel, Taha Akyol and some other writers have said the same thing. I don’t know on what basis they make such claims. I believe they are aware of the plans of the AKP government. The AKP government plans to declare a war against us this winter that will continue through spring. By that time we are being destroyed and the government will have reached its goals and a new stage will begin for Turkey.

“Their 2011 plan was to destroy us the way Sri lanka destroyed the Tamil Tiger guerrillas.”

Maybe it is based on this theory that they make such statements. AKP says ‘we will strike the core of the PKK and we will force them to surrender to our demands and lay down their arms.’ It seems the AKP has such plans and those people are aware of it. But that is impossible. How? Because they cannot destroy us. They will be destroyed instead. We have experience and we have a nation behind us. Our forces will be able to stand against Turkey in every way. They have attacked us many times. They pressured our leadership psychologically and isolated our leader just to force us to give in to their demands. Their 2011 plan was to destroy us the way Sri lanka destroyed the Tamil Tiger guerrillas.

They conducted many military operations. They wanted to divide the Kurds. They pressured our nation. They wanted to scare us. But so far the AKP government has not reached even one goal. The Turkish government failed in its plans. Today, our nation is stronger than ever. Kurdish politicians are prepared. The guerrillas are stronger than ever. That’s why they (Turkey) cannot destroy us.

PJAK calls upon Obama to reassess policy toward the Kurds

18 January 2012, QENDIL, Defence Regions of Medya, -- In a letter to Barak Obama, the General Assembly of Kurdistan’s Free Life Party (PJAK) calls upon the United States to reassess their policies in the Middle East particularly in relation to the Kurdish people.

The letter reads as follow:

Your Excellency the President of the United States of America

Dear Barak Hussein Obama

On 28 December 2008, in Qilaban region of Sirnak province in Northern Kurdistan (Turkey), 35 civilian Kurds were massacred by Turkish aircrafts in a heinous way. This fatal marked another dark page in the struggle of our people in all parts of Kurdistan. It sparked anger and widespread protestation among our people in all parts of Kurdistan as well as Diasporic community.

All the awaked conscious and circles in the world condemned this monstrous slaughter and displayed their abhorrence to such an inhuman deed. Without a doubt, silence in the face of such a crime reflects its endorsement which would be of equal to the execution of such inhuman conduct.

It’s been years that Turkey as the main ally of the United States of America plays the central role in the denial and annihilation of Kurdish people causing hundreds of similar mass-killings with more serious consequences for our people. Turkey’s practices and her treatment of the Kurdish people are more dangerous than Saddam Hussein’s with more negative effects on our people.

Turkish politics and its treatments of the Kurdish people has become a model for the states of Iraq, Iran and Syria in the Middle East and has taken the leading role in respect to the killing of Kurds and the destruction of Kurdistan.

It’s well evident for everyone particularly for the Kurdish nation that the United States of America all along with the interferences in the Middle East through the coming to power of the Democrats has supported Turkey with all her might and has given the leading role to Turkish state for the future changes in the region. In the meantime, the Kurdish nation along with all the Kurdish sides are well aware of the fact that Turkish government in her battle for the annihilation of the Kurds is receiving economic support, military armaments and even her major bulk of technological assistance from NATO and the United States of America.

With not doubt, this is the legitimate right of this nation to pose the question of what is the intention behind all these supports; the achievement of what pledges and the enhancement of what interests induces the United States to stand against the Kurdish nation is this way?!

The last example of this standing, the latest statement of the American ambassador in Turkey uttering “we are beside Turkey”, in relation to the massacre, while Turkey had not even made a statement about it and allegedly were investigating, is really stunning!

In response, the project of Liberal-Political Islam might be alluded to, which is led by the doctrine of Fethullah Gulen and the AK Party aimed to counterbalance Fundamental and Radical Islam and tie the Islamic states and circles to the rest of universe. But what has been done so far, not only proved the failure of such a project, but the attempts for the accomplishment of such project has led to development of radical Islam, widespread violence in the region, extension of the sphere of influence of the despotic and conservative regimes or even setting up new alliances, and worst of all the region is faced with a model - Turkish Regime that is the locus of the crisis of the Middle East and is one of the powers which directly or indirectly sponsors terrorism and causes instability.

Then this question would emerge; would the United States of America promote the process of democratisation and democratic model in the region or intensification of the crisis and a tyrannical model for further massacres?

From the coming to power of the AK Party to the present, the Turkish government has become the main obstacle to the process of democratisation in Iran. The relation among these two states has brought serious changes to the regional balance and particularly emboldened the Iranian regime to strengthen its status both in and outside the country.

Turkish observance of the Kurdish liberation struggle against the Islamic Republic of Iran is to prove this assertion. For example the modus operandi of the Islamic Republic in dealing with our party PJAK (Kurdistan’s Free Life Party) stems heavily from Turkey’s experiences. Contra-guerrilla methods, transmission of intelligence to the Iranian regime from your and Israeli unmanned aerial drones, submission of NATO’s armaments to Islamic Republic of Iran to fight against us, and the most importantly the Turkish imposition of our party to the terror list of the United States and the endorsement of such an issue by you, well exposes the extent to which Turkey has helped to embolden Iran and strengthen her position.

Such issues and many more have led to a great discrepancy between your slogans and the practices of the United States of America.

On the one hand there are talks of democratisation of the region, on the other we witness the current bleak picture; on the one hand there are talks about rights of the nations of the region, on the other the Kurdish national leader (leader Apo) is abducted and handed over to Turkey and there is not any process to solve the problems of these people; on the one hand there are talks of the Armenian Genocide, on the other the foe of the Kurdish nation which is ostensibly regarded as a model of democracy for the region - Turkey, is armed to inflict massacre on the Kurds; on the one hand there is talk of counterbalancing of Iran, on the other a very active and dynamic party such as PJAK is designated as terrorist.

Although you are supporting the anti-Kurdish and anti-Kurdistan circles, the Kurdish people have never posed a single danger to your interests. On the contrary, the Kurds have not only refused secession but have shown to be the main potential for the change, stability, freedom and democracy in the region – owing to historic, social and political experiences of the Kurds. But unfortunately such a powerful treasure has not a place in your project for the Middle East, is not given any status or mission and subjected to the cruellest type of politics. Such an issue well proves that how your projects are ignorant of the realities of the Middle East.

With no doubt, the Kurdish people are well able to defend themselves and their achievements. They would take serious steps to safeguard freedom and democracy and as history has proven, they would never face deadlock as they have diverse alternative and options to determine their future.

At the end, as the Kurdistan’s Free Life Party (PJAK) we call upon you to have a serious reassessment of your politics in relation to the Middle East particularly the Kurdish people in all parts of Kurdistan.

Not to further support or endorse slaughters of the Kurdish people at the hands of your allies and put an end to your support of Turkey.

As one of the most ancient peoples in the Middle East, the Kurdish people is the reflection of the awakened conscious of the region and any policy in dealing with the Kurds is the manifestation of that policy toward the whole region; this is how the truth has always been reflected.

With no doubt, the Kurdish nation has the potential to take the leading role in the democratisation of the region and to this end, it has never eluded from sacrifices and it will never.

Pakistan military bombarded Baloch villages: Several killed and injured, area still under siege

2012/1/17, Occupied Balochistan: A score of people have been killed and many injured during a fresh Pakistani military offensive in Kohistan Marri region.

According to details, Pakistan military have initiated a fresh operation in Chaap, Kujul, Berg Sham and several other adjoining regions on Monday morning. Gunship helicopters, fighter jets, and heavy artillery were used to target innocent villagers. Several houses were hit during indiscriminate bombardment, among which the house of Sohrab Khan Marri was badly damaged. All the inhabitants of the house including Sohrab Marri have died as the house was levelled to ground by shelling and bombing.

Afghanistan: Children in Badakhshan's town dying of hunger

Juma Khan, a resident of Khwahan district in northeastern Badakhshan province, says "the ongoing drought and snowfall have destroyed all of his property, forcing him to hand over his six children to the district chief for survival.

Speaking over the telephone, he said the ongoing drought and continued snowfall had badly affected him economically. People lacking food and suffering from cold weather conditions are yet to receive any assistance from the government and other organizations, he said.

Khan, who left his six children with the district chief, said he could not see them dying of severe hunger. "I have seven children and have no food for them to eat. I cannot migrate to other areas due to the closure of roads by snowfall," said, Habibullah, a resident of Shin Dara village. He said he could lose his children to hunger if the situation remains unchanged.

The town's acting administrative head, Shah Waliullah, said that unseasonal snowfall and continued drought had confronted residents with serious problems. He claimed nearly 20 poor families had submitted their children to him because they had no food.

The shortage of food stuff in the district has sent their prices record high. Seven kilograms of wheat were priced at 300 afghanis ($6.09137), 50 kilograms of flour at 2,300 afghanis ($46.7005) and 7 kilograms of rice at 430 afghanis ($8.73096).

Efforts to provide assistance to the district residents could not succeed due to the blockade roads. Development council director, Maulvi Hisamudin, said most of the district residents were farmers and relied on livestock. He said residents were compelled to sell a cow for 2000 afghanis ($40.6091) against its original price 20,000 afghanis ($406.091) due to the lack of animal feed.

The World Food Programmen (WFP) officials had promised providing 73 tonnes of wheat in assistance to residents, but the aid could not reach them so far.

Governor Shah Waliullah Adib said they had already submitted a report about the problems facing residents of district to the officials concerned in Kabul.

They are just some of the victims of wholesale torture taking place inside the U.S. prison system that we uncovered during a four-month investigation for BBC Channel 4 . It’s terrible to watch some of the videos and realise that you’re not only seeing torture in action but, in the most extreme cases, you are witnessing young men dying.

The prison guards stand over their captives with electric cattle prods, stun guns, and dogs. Many of the prisoners have been ordered to strip naked. The guards are yelling abuse at them, ordering them to lie on the ground and crawl. ‘Crawl, motherf*****s, crawl.’

If a prisoner doesn’t drop to the ground fast enough, a guard kicks him or stamps on his back. There’s a high-pitched scream from one man as a dog clamps its teeth onto his lower leg. Another prisoner has a broken ankle. He can’t crawl fast enough so a guard jabs a stun gun onto his buttocks. The jolt of electricity zaps through his naked flesh and genitals. For hours afterwards his whole body shakes.

Lines of men are now slithering across the floor of the cellblock while the guards stand over them shouting, prodding and kicking. Second by second, their humiliation is captured on a video camera by one of the guards.

The images of abuse and brutality he records are horrifyingly familiar. These were exactly the kind of pictures from inside Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad that shocked the world this time last year.

Wars are planned and orchestrated by the few, the privileged ruling elite; the humanity becomes the targeted victims of the few for global hegemonic governance.

Throughout the ages, the conscientious mankind searched for ways to undo the war and strive for peace, the real aim for the establishments of international institutions. But now the global institutional capacity to deal with peace and conflict management appears in ruin with the continued onslaught of the American led so called War on Terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Few weeks earlier, there was an allied global conference in Bonn to talk about peace and Afghanistan’s reconstruction and future. The question is why was Afghanistan invaded and destroyed?

In one nutshell, it was the creative thinking of the most insane minds on the planet and subsequently supported by few hired puppets of the authoritarian Arab-Islamic world.

Realizing the eminent defeats by the handful forces of Talaban, the allies are gathered to make their presence known for propaganda purposes to the beleaguered people of Afghanistan and global audience. Talaban fighting the intruders are not the foreigners but people of the land. The US, British and others paid agents are foreigner mercenaries fighting in a foreign land, culturally unknown and unconquerable by their armed forces. Piety and peacemaking vis-à-vis aggression and wickedness cannot be combined as credible attributes in ones mindset and one human character.

Now, the issue is, how conveniently, the aggressors want to redefine their strategic role and ambitions in Afghanistan as peacemakers as if they have achieved the goals of their aggression. Imagine, Adolph Hitler while occupying France and continuing bombing of London, wanted to organize a peace conference. Would it have been a logical discourse for the French and British people to talk peacemaking with the aggressor? Bush and Hitler had lot in common as both claimed to have the divine support for their mission. Both tried to destroy the living humanity but fell in disgrace and met ultimate defeats.

A week earlier, Talaban while talking to the BBC reporter in Kabul, made it clear that they believe in peacemaking but all the foreign forces must leave Afghanistan. The same logic that French and British politicians would have implied to Hitler. Could the facts of human life be changed, be it Iraq, Afghanistan or the occurrences of the 2nd World War?

The people of Iraq and Afghanistan need change for peace and normalcy. The change can only happen if the US led occupying forces after the withdrawal would compensate the victim nations and rebuild their essential social-economic and humanitarian infrastructures destroyed by the ferocious wars. The same formula used at the end of the WW2.

The same legal principle is needed that the aggressors be brought to legal and political accountability in an international war tribunal such as Nuremberg tribunal after the end of the WW2.

E. H Carr, the famous historian, had emphasized that history has learning role for the future. Those who defy the logic of learning were lost without a trace.

The aggressors have succumbed to public opposition and withdrawn most of their combat forces. In other instances, the invading armies have been defeated by the mujahideens and are unable to carry out any further brutality in those regions. Would the aggressors tell the humanity, when would they end the wars? So that the victims could think openly and plan for change and peaceful transfer to making of their own future. This is the issue that the current gathering of nations at Bonn avoided to discuss.

The assembly was not for peacemaking but for prolonging the failing war efforts. The leaders wanted to discuss the developmental aid, a typical western materialistic scenario to help the impoverished nations. The aid gimmick is an attractive illusion to entrap the needy nations and exploit their resources for the good of the occupying forces.

The US and Britain survive on borrowed money from the future generations as their own financial institutions have collapsed and so are the political powerhouses and working agencies. But the aid’s long term purpose is to create more beggars and poverty and dependent nations asking for external aid and to survive on borrowed future and resources. The discussion developmental aid and withdrawal of the foreign forces from Afghanistan sends a clear signal of defeat and prospective surrender to the Talaban fighting for the freedom of their homeland.

Future must be anew, not the repetition of the past. Future making does not lie with the aggressors nor with the failed international institutions, it is with the will and resolve of the people of Iraq and Afghanistan to oust the aggressors and recover their homes and habitats for rebuilding their lives and human dignity. Taken at their face value what Commander Bush claimed at the time that the US led forces went to Iraq and Afghanistan in pursuit of freedom, liberty and justice for the people. Instead they planned and developed the institutions of Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and Belgraham prison in Afghanistan.

Facts speak for themselves. All you need to do is to see the outcomes, the triumphs of the American version of liberty, human rights and justice, the horrifying photos of the prisoners are easily available through the internet, speaking their own language of the American-British civilized achievements in the Arab-Islamic world.

Mr. Karzai, the self-made president of Afghanistan, claimed that he and the participating members of the Arab-Islamic world represent the Islamic version of the civility and not terrorism. Mr. Karzai or others in attendance, the Arab-Muslim staged puppets do not represent the interest and priorities of the Muslim Ummah. The people of the Islamic world view them all as pan on the global political chessboard being financed, supported and kept in office to steal the future of the people of Afghanistan and the Muslim world. They are seen as part of the problem, not part of any workable solution.

The abstract phenomenon of state- the sitting members of the UNO, lack any human conscience to be accountable to the global humanity already in great distress and sufferings. The UNO, the US and other intransigent state actors feel no shame for their atrocities against the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. In Iraq, the US forces have massacred more than three million innocent civilians and millions displaced or forced to become refugees in foreign lands.

Fullugha alone depicts the inhuman atrocities of the US war as it is full of the phosphorous bombing impacts - agriculture is destroyed, drinking water is poisonous, the lands are polluted and not worthy of productivity- thousands and thousands of people were made homeless and incapacitated for no other reason except they were Muslims and Iraqis. This is the outcome of the US sponsored liberal democracy at work in Fullugha.

Afghan landscape tells its own story with million uprooted from ancestral homes and forced to go to foreign countries in search of protection and mere human survival. The aggressors do not wish to see the problem, that they are the real problem, not otherwise. How soon the aggressors would leave Afghanistan, nobody can tell.

The ancient and civilized people of Iraq and Afghanistan know it well who are the peacemakers and who are the aggressors. The aggressors appear desperate to quit but the Bonn conference seems to indicate that urgent necessity but intellectually confused, morally corrupt and with high rates of self-suicidal deaths US-British militarily apparatus exhausted, and not sure how best to get out of the terrible mess they have created for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan and the whole of the humanity in turmoil.

Recently, a Malaysian legal tribunal has issued the judgment and declared Bush and Blair as responsible for crimes against the humanity in Iraq and Afghanistan. Would the Western world’s responsible legal authorities take the necessary action to implement the verdict of the international tribunal?

A century earlier C.E, M. Joad (Guide to Modern Wickedness), captioned the human tragedy in these words:

“….Human nature is at least in part wicked and in part foolish, how can human beings be prevented from suffering from the results of their wickedness and folly? ….Men simply do not see that war is foolish and useless and wicked. The Afghan Holocaust - Mass grave found in Balkh

A mass grave, containing human bones and skulls, has been discovered in the Dehdadi district of northern Balkh province, an official said on Tuesday. The grave was found on Monday in Arzana desert, where a base of the 209th Shaheen Military Corps existed, public relations officer of the Corps, Lt. Col. Muhammad Naeem, told mediamen.

Human bones and skulls were found by workers of a construction company at the site of a newly under construction building, he said. He said the Corps medical team would investigate the time of the grave and the number of those buried.

According to Siffatullah, an official of a construction company in the area, construction work has been brought to a halt after the grave was found.

Several Jewish-American groups have been lobbying in favour of Turkey and Azerbaijan for some time. Mariaschin told the Turkish Daily News that there are a number of Jewish-American groups that have "U.S-Turkish and Turkish- Israeli relations high on their agenda."

The article lists the following organisations as playing "an increasingly active role in the advocacy of Turkish positions on many issues in the United States: The American Jewish Committee, the American Jewish Congress, the Anti-Defamation League, B'nai B'rith, the Conference of Presidents of Major Ameri-can Jewish Organisations, and the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs."

Both Jacobs and Mariaschin travelled to Istanbul and Ankara to explain "the unique role their organisations can play in the lobbying process in the United States."

Jacobs and a Jewish-American delegation also visited Armenia and Karabagh, in addition to Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. Mariaschin discloses that "Jewish groups are addressing an expanded agenda of issues," including support for the Baku - Ceyhan pipeline.

In Part II of the article, Jacobs pledges that Jewish organisations will "take an active and vigorous role in being friends of Turkey in the United States.... We will champion to the best of our ability Turkish interests in the U.S. Congress. We will be Turkey's friends officially in Congress and work to help get favourable legislation passed."

In trying to minimise the failure of the Jewish groups to lift the ban on aid to Azerbaijan, he calls Section 907 "largely symbolic." He then contradicts himself by disclosing that because of Section 907, Israel's Overseas Development Program cannot send Israeli technicians to Azerbaijan, since the Program receives funds from the U.S. government.

Jacobs states that "it is unfair to single out Azerbaijan, a pro-western and pro-NATO country that has diplomatic relations with Israel." Jacobs says that Armenian forces with the backing of Russia, occupy 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory and have created 1 million in internally displaced persons. Therefore, he explained, "the organised American-Jewish community has come to the conclusion that it is wrong to further victimise Azerbaijan."

Ignoring the fact that Turkey has hired the best U.S. lobbying firms, Jacobs says that the Turkish lobby in the United States is "very small, unorganised and almost non-existent, while Turks in general failed to under-stand the modern lobbying process." His implied message is: "Ignorant and badly organised Turks desperately need Jewish help."

Jacobs also conveniently fails to mention that the entire U.S. government, including the White House, the State and Defence departments, has acted as a giant Turkish lobby for the past 50 years.

Jacobs makes the following declaration: "We want to work with your Embassy in Washington, the Turkish-American community and Turkey's many friends and win our battles on Capitol Hill. We want the American people and our leaders to understand what Turkey and its citizens have accomplished."

And further states that: "We want our media to accurately reflect Turkey's importance and achievements. We don't want those who are not friends of Turkey to have the means to use human rights or other issues against your interests."

12 January 2012, The Roboski slaughter on 28 December was allegedly carried out by warplanes sold by the U.S. In a joint letter to the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, American Kurdish, Armenian and Greek civil society organizations demanded an investigation on the use of U.S.-sold weaponry in the village of Roboski slaughter which left 35 civilians dead on December 28, 2011.

Kurdish National Congress of North America, Kurdish Human Rights Watch (KHRW), American Kurdish Information Network (AKIN), Armenian National Committee of America and American Hellenic Institute sent a joint letter on the Roboski slaughter to the U.S. Congress, U.S. Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense inspection commission members.

The letter demanded an official investigation against the government in line with the complaints about the violation of Arms Export Control Act and other laws in connection with the slaughter of 35 Kurdish civilians as a result of an aerial assault by the Turkish army.

As the reason of the demand for investigation, the letter pointed out to the fact that the attack was carried out by Turkish F-16 warplanes on the basis of intelligence provided by unmanned air vehicles sold by the U.S.

The mentioned U.S. Arms Export Control Act prohibits the usage of U.S.-sold arms against civilians. The organizations therefore demanded an urgent public report from Obama government to make it clear whether the U.S. law was violated or not in connection with the mentioned killings.

Urgent call: Suspend EU to Turkey live exports

Compassion in World Farming launched a new film today showing the horror of the live animal export trade from the EU to Turkey. Compassion in World Farming are calling on the European Commission to suspend live animal exports to Turkey, after uncovering terrible conditions in their transport and slaughter.

Compassion, joined by Eyes on Animals and Animal Welfare Foundation, are making the urgent appeal as we release our “Without Care” video, which documents widespread abuse of EU regulations on transport and slaughter in contravention of international standards.

The footage from Turkish slaughterhouses was gathered by Animals Australia. It shows practices that contravene the international recommendations of the World Organisation for Animal Health on welfare at slaughter.

In the first six months of this year almost 600,000 sheep were transported to Turkey from the EU, more than twice as many as in the whole of 2010. More than 100,000 cattle were exported from the EU to Turkey in the first six months of 2011, which is nearly twice as many as in the whole of 2010. On current trends, we could see more than 1 million animals travel the route this year.

Clear breaches of EU Rules

Peter Stevenson, Chief Policy Advisor at Compassion in World Farming, says: “What we see in the Without Care video is systematic contravention of EU law on animal transport and flouting of international standards on slaughter to which Turkey is signed up."

“It is hard to watch but even harder to accept that no effective action is being taken to stop this, despite very clear evidence of several EU regulations being broken."

“The Commission cannot just turn a blind eye to this evidence, these animals are the responsibility of the EU, which has to ensure regulations are followed in order to reduce the suffering caused by these long journeys.”

While demanding the suspension of the trade, the organisations involved in the investigations that captured the disturbing footage also believe that this trade should be brought to an end on a permanent basis since the distances and climatic conditions are too extreme to guarantee even minimal animal welfare standards.

10 January 2012, Mark Vadasz, Swedish Intelligence Service (Säpo) Head of Communication, stated that the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) didn’t pose a threat for Sweden’s security under today's conditions.

Säpo has made a remarkable statement following a long follow-up of PKK sympathizers and significant efforts it has given for the association of PKK with ‘terrorism’ in Europe.

Debates on PKK exacerbated in Sweden following the ceremony held on 23 December in Borlänge city at the 33th establishment anniversary of PKK. Swedish politicians who attended the ceremony made speeches here condemning Turkey’s pressure and attacks on the Kurdish people and demanding peaceful ways and dialogue for the solution of the problem.

Answering journalists’ questions after the reflection of the ceremony on papers, Left Party member Leif Lindström and Social Democrat Labor Party MP Peter Hultqvist said that they had attended the night with an aim to support the struggle of the Kurdish people.

Following a question whether PKK militants should be considered as ‘terrorist’, Lindström drew a correspondence between PKK militants and the resistance movements that fought in the countries under Nazi occupation during the World War II. Lindström noted that most of the organizations which fight for the liberation of peoples more or less have blood on their hands.

Peter Hultqvist also pointed out to the solution of the Kurdish question through peaceful ways and respect for democracy as the most important point of the problem and noted that; "Kurds should be recognized as a people. It is wrong to apply pressure on BDP, to arrest elected part representatives and to prevent Kurds from speaking their mother language in government offices."

The debate on PKK expanded with the statements of Swedish Intelligence Service (Säpo) Head of Communication, Mark Vadasz, who remarked that the PKK didn’t resort to violence since the capture of Öcalan in Kenya in the year of 1999.

Turkey: 8, 190 people under arrest for “terrorism.” According to a figure published by Turkish Ministry of Justice on November 31 2011, 8, 190 people are under arrest for the allegation of “terrorism”, DIHA reported today. According to allegation, he shot himself in the heart, with a gun called G3.

Yurtsever was serving at the Gelibolu Military Headquarters in Çanakkale. His brother Ali Ekber Yurtsever stated that 31-year-old Deniz Yurtsever had plans for future as a politically involved person. Deceased Yurtsever was expelled from college for taking part in demonstrations for education in Kurdish language.

Having no mental or physical problem, his brother added that “he was well known person in Adana. We do not believe in that he committed suicide.”

In the last three days, another three Kurdish soldiers, Semih Çiftçi in the Islahiye-Antep; 19-year-old Lütfü Esmer in the Elazig Province Centre and 22-year-old Dogukan Kahyaoglu in the Poyraz Village in Van, committed suicide during their military duty.

Severe clashes and chemical weapon allegation reported on Cudi mountains

08 January 2012, Following intense military shipment to Şırnak region since yesterday, clashes have been reported on 8 January in Cudi region. While a large number of military vehicles and helicopters have been sent to the operation area, clashes and losses of lives have been reported within the scope of today’s operation in the region. Military activity is reported to be intensified in the region of Besta as well.

Kurdistan People’s Initiative made a statement today about the clash and called on Botan’s people to act as human shields in the operation area to protect the guerrillas of freedom. The statement also called on Botan’s people to increase resistance and civil commotion to end the slaughter of the Kurdish people.

In a statement about ongoing clashes in the area, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Deputy Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş pointed out to the allegations of local sources which claimed that chemical weapons were used during today’s ongoing clashes on Cudi mountains.

Demirtaş also called on Botan’s people to protest war policies in the operation area. “Our people suffer great pains as a result of the deaths left by these operations. Democratic popular acts are therefore the most effective way to end these pains”, said BDP Co-chair and remarked that the BDP was ready to display their reaction to end the war and ongoing operations.
